SUGGESTION: Resources - historical, Catholic etc.

There is a non-Logos program which I own which is designed for the average Catholic - very limited capabilities i.e. essentially a read, search, export capability. However, I thought some Logos users might be interested to see the resource list if only to see what sort of resources a Catholic would go to for apologetics. I may follow up with a list of resources offered with the free Vatican software that has priests as its primary target.

The list for priests is constantly growing and is dependent upon the language you wish to have the resources in. Again, the program is pretty basic - costs nothing and provides (in English) the following resources.

Baltimore's CatechismOne could correctly label these lists my Logos shopping list. If anyone knows of similar resource lists for the Orthodox, I would really appreciate knowing of them.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

That list looks seriously incredible, even as a non-Catholic I'd like to get my hands on a number of those.MJ. Smith said:One could correctly label these lists my Logos shopping list.
Hmm. Too fragmented, but I have seen a few. I'll see if I can find them again.MJ. Smith said:If anyone knows of similar resource lists for the Orthodox, I would really appreciate knowing of them.

The Master's Seminary has one...MJ. Smith said:If anyone knows of similar resource lists for the Orthodox, I would really appreciate knowing of them.
50 BOOKS FOR EVERY CHRISTIAN http://www.tms.edu/LibraryBooklist.aspx
Then there's their original 850 book list: http://www.tms.edu/pdf/850Books.pdf
I have noted a few other seminaries with similar list and at one point set out to compare and contrast them with Logos' evolving offerings but haven't completed that project.

Thank you for the links - and I'd love to see your comparison, it's a very worthwhile project.

These are some seriously great lists! I'd buy almost anything on them that we haven't already got.

The Master's Seminary has one...
50 BOOKS FOR EVERY CHRISTIAN http://www.tms.edu/LibraryBooklist.aspx
That was probably by far the least Orthodox list I've ever seen... And it most definitely wasn't for every Christian. But, then again, what can you expect from a man who considers Catholics (and Orthodox, I would assume) to be satanists rather than Christians...
MJ. Smith said:If anyone knows of similar resource lists for the Orthodox, I would really appreciate knowing of them.
I dug around and finally found a short list of recommended reading at the bottom of this page (and the beginning of the faq will give you a good laugh!). Also the General Information section here has a short book list at the end of each subpage, and lots of links to online stuff above. The other subsections have links as well, but less often book suggestions (though many of the links of course come from books). (Don't miss the Orthodoxy and Western Christianity section, where you can find pearls like Why I Abandoned Papism. [:D] )
Here's a link page that may interest you as well, if you want to continue digging.

Thanks for the links - I find them a bit disappointing in the sense that they emphasis who they are not rather than the positive Orthodox tradition. If I were to build a list it would start with
- Patristics (patristics, patristics)
- Desert fathers
- Philokalia
- St. Gregory Palamas
- Bible commentary from Ochrid
- St. Ephrem the Syrian
- Romulus the Melodian
- The Way of the Pilgrim
but I fear that I quickly peter off into contemporary English writings ... knowing full well there is a rich history of writings that I am missing
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I think Thomas must have been thinking of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church!
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

Actually I completely missed the word orthodox in MJ's initial post and just read in a general search for book lists, which triggered my memory on seeing this one.
Sorry for my confusion - I seem to be experiencing a lot of that these days.
Next time I shall read twice before posting a response. [:#]

I purchased this software from the other company because I thought it would take forever for it to get published in Logos. While it is not near the user interface that Logos is, it is better than nothing. I do hope Logos keeps the Pre-Pub machine humming.
