Does Update Now actually do anything?
I ask because I noticed that some are reporting a newer RC version than me. I typed in Update Now and waited 10 minutes and nothing seemed to happen. I restarted Logos4 and immediately (within a minute) the little icon came up and reported that it is downloading 26.9MB. I had 4.0.3.2019 and now after the update it is reporting 4.0.3.2144.

Update Now will act promptly if something is waiting and you have Automatically Download Updates = No. If you have Automatically Download Updates = Yes I would assume nothing was available at the time, but 10 mins later there was a download available.

It was available because others had an updated version of the RC long before I tried updating. I have everything set to yes.

Two things I have done to force an update (when I know one is available):
1) Type in "Update Now." Sometimes nothing happens, but the double arrows go black and if you hover it, it says there are items waiting to be synced. Double click on that.
2) I have also had luck doing this: Go into Program Settings and temporarily set Automatically Download Updates to "no." Twice when I have done this a click-able blue link that said "updates available" or something close to that has immediately appeared. I clicked on that and then re-set Auto back to "yes."
Both of these have worked for me but I have used #1 more often over the last 2-3 days.

In which case it sounds like Update Now was slow, perhaps Bradley could explain!

It would be nice to know it was going something, anything. I will wait until I know there is something new available and then try Jerry's suggestions.

In another post, Bradley did explain that update was now set to check once a day rather than every startup. That was part of their strategy to spread out the load on Logos servers. Am I missing something, or does that explain what's happening here?

I don't think that explains it. I tried to force it to update me to the newest RC and it did nothing in the 10 minutes I waited. I then closed and reopened L4 and immediately it found the RC update and downloaded it.

Entering "update now" starts the check for updates. If you have a lot of resources, this can take a long time, during which no progress is displayed. Only when the update check is finished does any downloading (or a prompt to download) happen.
What probably happened is that updates were found during the first time you ran the application, but it didn't prompt you because it was still checking the local state of the system. When you restarted, it didn't check the server again, but detected that updates had previously been found, and now prompted you to download.

I am getting no love on updating. It is still stuck on 2144. I've tried restarting the computer twice, closing down and restarting the program. Turning off automatic updates. Turning it back on. "update now" every step along the way...and still no love.
