Speed up your start up (how did I ever miss this one)
Everyone seems to gripe about how long an application takes to start up and Logos has been targeted for this since the Alpha days. Well I discovered to my embarrassment that it's my own default Logos started slooow.
In your Dock preferences, uncheck Animate opening applications. That's it. Seems to shave quite a bit off the start time. Enjoy!

Wow! That makes a huge difference. I can imagine why it should... what is logos doing differently in animating the opening that other programs aren't? (The difference isn't nearly as large between having animations on or off in other programs when I check them too.)

I've submitted Michael's report to development so they are aware of the difference.

It's really not surprising that making the OS do an animation of the dock would use up some resources. The same has been true of the Windows animations in Vista and 7. I just never thought it would do so much on the startup time for Logos by turning it off, but I am seeing some definite improvement. Try it for yourself.

I just tested this. Opened with same stuff open in background and start up was exactly the same within a second or two of each other. 22 seconds with animate and 21 without it checked. So mine was a hair faster without it. I am using the latest version of os x on an imac.

I'm running this from a 2GB MacMini that's 2 years old so my results are probably more dramatic.
Startup time needs to be tested with the machine rebooted since all apps will startup faster if they are simply restarted because they are loaded into memory.

With animation set "On." I rebooted my machine. It took about 23 sec for L4 to load the first time, 8 sec to load each subsequent time.
Turned animation OFF and rebooted. Took 22 sec to load the first time, 7-8 sec to load afterward.
