Re: Release Notes and Updated Resource Info on Home Page -Thanks

Thank you to the people behind the product at Logos for these and the other goodies. The "Release Notes" and the "Updated Resources" were just the first things I noticed. They are very much appreciated. I'll be poking around some more. Now get back to work.

They're also only available on the newest version of Logos (4.2a) which was released yesterday. You'll need to make sure you've updated to that version.

Thanks Graham but I already have those enabled in preferences. Where are the release notes located on the home page? For the life of me I cannot find them.

On my system they are on the second page among a range of other articles
Clicking on the "more" link opens a browser window containing the release notes.

Hmm very strange. I don't have anything like that on mine. Perhaps that feature is Windows only and not Mac. I'd sure like to see what resources were updated. I can get the release notes from the wiki but would be nice to see them from the homepage.

Have you tried F5? I just did and that solved it for me. (And, yes, I'm on Mac.)
Can someone explain to me why I have to hit F5 to see this, when I have already restarted Logos at least 3 times after downloading the upgrade? Why doesn't the restart update the Home Page automatically? It seems like a considerable waste of time to first load an old page, and then immediately having to refresh it manually...

I can't be sure, but I think it's set up to reload once a day, and load from cache between times (even if you restart).
It really should reload after a new install, but I don't think it is.

The home page gets regenerated each day, not on each restart - so even if you never close Logos you'll still get a new homepage, and if you frequently open and close it you'll save time generating it unnecessarily.

Well I did the F5 and did get a new page. There was a article that says that the update is now shipping but there is no link to the release notes or resources update. I have updated and am on the current version.

My homepage does not regenerate each day either. I must close the program and reopen to get the new homepage 1st thing every morning.

Perhaps try customising the home page so that it only shows the updates and release notes, to see what happens?

Using Logos 4.2a (4.21.5.0585) on Mac - Home Page regenerates when customize content items checked or unchecked:
Edit: Logos 4.2a (4.21.5.0585) was installed Feb 22 - Update Resources shows files updated after 4.2a installation.

When I turn off everything but release notes and updated resources my home page comes up with "New heaven and earth" article and the book of the day and that is all. Do you suppose that the indexing has not completed since the upgrade? Would prevent the new features from taking effect? I don't see the indexing icon at the top but I saw a brief "growl" message that the system might run slow while Logos indexes.

By any chance do you have the internet turned off in Logos? (Tools → Settings)Craig Ostrander said:I sure can't find them on my homepage. Where are the release notes and resource updates located? I'm on a mac

Well this has been interesting to say the least but the problem is now solved. A few minutes ago I restarted Logos and even though my "about Logos" option showed the latest version of software installed, I got an onscreen message saying Logos was downloading 74 megs of updates. I let it go through the process again and went through the install process and now everything is showing as it should. I do notice there is a later build number than what was previously there. Anyways everything is good now. Thanks for all the help suggestions
Still smiling,

Possibly resources not updated after 4.2a installed (and indexed). Previous 4.0b version on Mac did not track resource update date.

After 4.2a SR-1 release and resources updated after 4.2a installation, both appear on Mac home page (similar appearance on PC):

I have the same problem with a PC using Win7. About Logos Software shows that I now have 4.2a SR-1 (4.21.5.0709) Release Notes and Updated Resources are ticked. I have restarted several times, used F5 several times. I tried turning off everything except Release Notes and Updated Resources, but still no joy; I do not have a Home Page section showing Updated Resources. Help!

On PC Beta channel, after 4.2a Beta 1 release installed, followed later by resource update(s), then Resources Updated appeared on Home Page showing which resource(s) had been updated.

Michael (and the others not seeing this info),
You'll only get notification of updates that have been received after 4.2a was installed. Have you definitely had updates since then?

When I started my Logos 4 program on Thu 3rd March, I received a download of, I think, 68MB. Shortly afterwards, I had another one of about 50Mb. After verifying that I did indeed now have 4,2a SR-1, and not finding the new sections on the Home Page, I opened my Library. This is set up with a column "Last Updated". On scrolling thru my 600 books, I found 16 of them (1890 Darby Bible thru to Wilmington's Book of Bible Lists) with "today" in that column.0 -

Puzzling - sounds like 4.2a was installed prior to resource updates - wonder if indexing was complete before resources updated.
Observation: on an older installation, noticed 4.2a cancelled indexing if resources needed to be downloaded (had to restart Logos 4.2a several times to complete upgrade).
Personally have 4 resources updated on Tue 1 Mar that show on my Home Page (appears updated resources goes back 5 days since 6 resources updated on Mon 28 Feb no longer display on my Home Page).

Had the same problem on a mac. Here's how I got it to work:
After updating and re-indexing I saw nothing. Weird that it does not list its own update.
I then turned on internet in the prefs, and after restarting it said it had 250mb of updated resources to download (weird that it did not mention this earlier when I said "update now").
After downloading that and re-indexing (again), it showed up listing the updated resources, but not the version 4.2a update.
So the thing is it (oddly) does not show itself as being updated, and only lists stuff done after 4.2a was installed.
Also, on mac, refreshing with f5 does not work since f5 is mapped to the monitor brightness on a laptop. Apple-R does not seem to work either, so to get it to refresh I needed to de-select and then re-select options on the homepage to get it to update.
Hope that helps someone.[8-|]

As I understand it that download consists of updated resources that only work in 4.2, so it couldn't download until that update was installed.

I've never used a laptop, but I seem to remember from other threads that the trick is to use the function key together with F5. (I agree cmd-r ought to work!)

Interesting. Do you know where I can find out more about these updates? The homepage just lists them (as expected), but doesn't detail what was updated exactly (for example why they only work with 4.2).

It's rare that we're given that information. The closest we have for the 4.2 update is this: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/25608.aspx

Thanks KS4J and Mark. Today I downloaded a new resource; Following completion of indexing, I expected to see it on my Home Page - but no, it wasn't there. So I tried F5 and Bingo! - there it was. Obviously the updated resources I received on the same day as my update to 4.2a must have arrived before the 4,2a update.

I never got a response to my email request for help (except an automated "one of our representatives will respond as soon as possible"). I submitted my request on March 3.
I called tech support today and found out that a new 47 Mb update is available today (March 8); should be in the
automatic update queue tomorrow. I'm thinking it may be related to the
problem some have been having in getting release notes and the updated
resources list on their home page.Type "update now" in the command box to download today. I assume tomorrow it will download automatically.
Edit: the update did solve the original problem for me: "New version" and "Resource Updated" are both appearing on my home page as advertised. Yea!

EDIT:
I spoke too soon - the smile has gone!
On starting up Logos 4 on Wed 9/3, I received a small download of about 300Kb. This soon showed up on my Home Page under Updated Resources as Logos 4 Help. A little later in the day, I received a download of 42 Mb. Despite several restarts and uses of F5, there was nothing on my Home Page to say what it was. Today, Thu 10/3, there is still nothing new on the Home Page under Updated Resources, although it is still showing the new resource I purchased on 8/3 ant the Help update from 9/3. What is going on?0 -

It sounds like you received the SR-2 update to the software, so you won't see that under Updated Resources. Check your About ... dialog

Don't know if this is the bet place to post this, but I would like to propose a further feature request:
in addition to listing what has already been installed. I would like to see listed what the available update is.
Currently there is a little window that says "available updates (84MB)" which is great, but I would like to know what those updates are.
It would be easy to list that in the homepage under a new category "Available Updates" along side the "Recently Updated" category.
This is how both Windows and Mac Software Updates work, and so based on that I would say it is a functionality that a lot of people would appreciate.
