Surprise! Surprise - Themelios delayed agan

The expected ship date is now "April 2011". This may hold the record for the longest wait I've had for an "Under Development" pre-order product. I recall it was almost year ago that it was ready to go and I go the message that I would be billed for it soon.

I'm really disappointed with the delay with this. This must be the eight or ninth time (starting May/June last year) that this has been given a shipping date only for it to be put back. It now seems this, JBL and the Talmud are due to be released in the same month which means I will likely have to cancel one of the three.

I appreciate that last minute problems can come to light on the last minute, but it is tough to repeatedly postpone a release date with no explanation, particularly as I am sure some (perhaps many of us) need to budget.

Why not give a very conservative shipping date and then stick to it?

I too am a little disappointed, but be careful about all the complaining. Last time we complained they just stopped giving us expected ship dates until a couple days before. [;)]

Jacob is absolutely right. I've read through numerous complaints on these forums of those who wish we had more updates on progress being made regarding various resources. Then, when Logos does provide some information, we complain when they don't meet the mark. We are a very tough bunch to please.

I released that my post above is brief and, as such, that I may have been unclear or come across as unfairly critical.

It is not my intention to be critical, but, it seems to me that there are two extreme scenarios that are, in my opinion, less than ideal.

The first is that Logos ceases providing shipping dates (as per Jacob's post above). For me, personally, this would detrimentally impact on the number of pre-orders I place and are able to follow through on. I expect that other people would similarly find this approach unhelpful. I also expect that this would impact on the sales of pre-orders (in other words, it seems that there are good business reasons why Logos now provides shipping dates). The other extreme is that the shipping dates become so unreliable that they become meaningless, frustrating the customer, making it difficult to budget and resulting in cancellations. (For clarity, I am not suggesting either scenario reflects Logos' general performance in this area.)

Although my experience with preorders has (generally) been good, in this instance the slippage has been considerable (a shipping date was first attached for May, then June, I think July 2010, and so on). It is frustrating, but, on a more practical note, it makes it difficult to plan. It is frustrating that there has been no information since September 2010. (I am actually genuinely interested, for geeky reasons, in understanding what the problem actually is, although I accept that Logos has no obligation to share this information.)

I have also noted (on occasion) that there is sometimes an inference in response to customers raising concerns of this kind (Michael and Jacob, I am not suggesting that you are making any such inference) that Logos' practice of providing a shipping date is exceptional and above and beyond that offered by other companies (almost as if they are doing us a favour). I am exceedingly grateful that Logos provides shipping dates and would not want this to change, but I would also point out that CDs, BluRays, books, PC games are all typically given release dates (and I understand that sometimes these dates also slip). I assume, therefore, that there are good business reasons for doing so (i.e. that it is as much in their interests to provide this information).

Finally, I just wanted to add that this (and my post above) is not really a serious complaint. My dealings with Logos have been entirely positive and I am delighted with the software. From my fleeting interactions with customer services, etc. I have a great deal of trust and respect in the organisation.

I do accept that this delay is not the biggest deal in the world and apologise if I came across as a whinger. I have posted again, not to reignite the debate, but to clarify a post that may have suffered from a lack of clarity as a result of my brevity.

My wife would agree with you that I am tough to please (and I do not think that she always means that in a positive way [:D]).

Well, here we are. It's still scheduled to ship this coming Monday 04/18/2011. Will it be for real this time? I sure hope so. Even better would be if it is avaiable for iPad/iPhone in a few days too!
