I am just trying out the new Iphone app. I logged into my account and could not find/set the preferred Bible as NIV.

I have the leader package and I can see and use it using Logos 4 on a mac.

Any ideas?

NIV isn't available on the i-phone due to Zondervan's choice. Perhaps we should start a petition to Zondervan requesting NIV allowance in Logos App

That is interesting - Not sure how that licensing agreement was negotiated. When I purchased the rights via the package, I would not have expected that it was restricted to device type.

Regarding a petition, I would think that is the domain of Logos, not the end user. Perhaps Logos support could provide some insight here

The more I think about this the more I am scratching my head. NIV is available via other vendor applications. I'm beginning to feel like there must be some type of non-compete clause up the chain somewhere. This feels like the RIAA  and DRM of the music industry. From what I've been able to discern Zondervan should have a solid relationship with Logos. The protections for unauthorized licensing/lost revenue  seem solid with the resource library tied to a logos login id.

Logos and Zondervan's license negotiation for the NIV happened long, long before there was such a thing as an iPhone, and long before Logos had even considered an on-line library. That license needs to be renegotiated, and we are told it is under discussion. But we don't know that status of that discussion, and won't unless either party decides to let us in on what's happening.

Ok -  No big deal - It's just confusing from a new end user perspective when you log into you library and you learn of these issues ad hoc so to speak. It is what it is -

    Again thanks for your comments

This makes no sense the free app youversion.com has the NIV for the iphone.  I know there is a fee that can be paid to get a license for Logos users to be able to access the NIV Bible.

Dollars can make the problem go away... the question is are they(Logos) willing to spend the required amount?

Michael and Larry, this has all been hashed out at least 4 dozen times in the past year and 1/4.  If you will go back into the archives I think that all of this will make a lot more sense.  But suffice it to say that Logos does not want to pay Zondervan a second time so that we have it on the idevice since it would also mean that each of us would have to pay again... and then we would need to pay all of the other publishers as well, since we did it for one.  This time, it is zondervan who is trying to double dip here.  Everyone else has agreed to play nicely... well except for Zondervan.  I switched to using the ESV and also NKJV for all of my study... and now, I like them even more, if for no other reason than this does not support the afore mentioned publisher. Just a thought!

Michael, as it has been presented to us, it looks like Zondervan is trying to make an extra profit here.... right... wrong... or indifferent.  But as I said, go back and read the old files. you will see what we have asked and said as well as what Logos and even Bob have all said... then after reading all of this, make up your own mind.  I think you will see and understand things much, Much, MUCH differently then!

Kelly... I believe I have seen most of those posts in the past.  It still does not change my perspective.  There is some type of "standoff" going on... one of the parties has dug in its heels.

    Who will BLINK first??

Well Michael, I suspect that it is Logos who has dug in, so that we don't have to keep paying ofr the different platforms of the same books.   Besides, with ESV and NKJV we don't really need the NIV... even Zondervan agrees because they are introducing yet another new version as we speak.

    Kelly,

Why do you insist  Zondervan  is not being flexible.  Please speak for yourself on not needing the NIV.  I believe there is no corolation in wether or not they are making a new version, that's what publishers do.

I stated earlier, I have the Large #1 Zondervan Bundle and the resources are available on both the Iphone and the PC/Mac??  Why are they available.

Oh by the way, the NIV is the largest selling Bible of all times... I like it because most people are using it, and I would like to have it tied into my Logos account.  I read for personal use out of the ESV.

    blessing in Him,

    Mike

Mike, please don't shoot the messenger.  I have repeatedly tried to get you to go back into the archives and read through the old posts.  Read especially what logos has written and at least as importantly, what Bob has written, then decide for yourself what is going on.  I can't make you believe anything, only point you to what is known.

As far as the NIV, yes it is the largest selling modern version, and yes, and a lot of people use it, and with that said, there are a lot of other great choices out there, and please realize that this is not the end of the world... not having the NIV.  I have several thousand dollars wrapped up in Logos as well.  Most bought long before the cheaper bigger collections came out.  I bought them as they came on the scene and paid much more than a lot of others did because they were not in a collection, but I still don't want to have to repurchase any books just for the idevice... that is a waste of my money. And lastly, no matter what you and I say here, it will not move logos or zondervan to a quicker resolution...

    Kelly,

I am not shooting the messenger... But, I can clearly see the messenger is lost, so I am trying to put him back on track.  I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING ALL THE OLD POSTS, I have read all of Bob's previous posts.  Clearly you have been thirsty though, how does the Kool-aid taste???

So, what ever logos and Bob have said is minus the truth?  what ever Zondervan says is the gospel... now who is drinking the kool-aid?  well, this is getting us no where, so this is my last post on it.  go ahead, believe as you desire, want what you want, but it wont change the truth!

Finally, I agree with you... The truth is still the truth.
