Instant Language Switch Button!

Alright, I got one request for our Logos buddies: We need a button that would enable us to switch the language from English to Spanish or vice versa.  It's kind of a burden having to go to program settings and switch to Spanish and then having to restart the program and follow the same process to get it back to English.  I'd think it'd be easier to have a "switch language" button.

So, what do you think?

Blessings!

Douglas

    Hi Douglas,

If you have the Windows version, you can enter the command uilang es (for Spanish UI), or uilang en (for English UI), or uilang sv (for Swedish UI) in the Command box, and when the autocomplete match appears, click and drag it to the shortcut area of the Logos toolbar. This will give you one-click access to the setting. You can also right-click on the shortcut and choose a different label or icon for each language. However, a restart of Logos 4 will still be required.

    Thanks for the tip Melissa!!!

Actually, I should have tested the shortcut before posting this. [:$]   Running the 'uilang' command from the shortcut isn't changing the UI after restart. I will report this to development to see if they can make this work. I'll update this thread when I know more.

I was just going to post that...hehehe...so now that you're going to report that to developement, can you ask them if there's a way to avoid the "restart" to switch languages? Thanks for your hard work!

    God bless!

YES, I agree with Douglas, this is a feature that I and other users can use now!  I tend to use the English more then Spanish, but it never fails when I want to share something with one of my spanish speaking brothers, I have the interface in English.  It would be nice to be able to change it with out a restart of the program.

Unfortunately, the UI language setting controls a lot of the data loading during startup. We don't have an easy way to unload and reload this data without restarting the application (which is why a restart is required). I can see that this would be a useful feature, but it would take too much development time to be included in the next release.

Alright, but will it be available in Logos 5? [:P]

Another thing, will we be able to put the command on our short cuts bar like Melissa had suggested or will that not be possible either? Anyway, thanks!

Just as a question......are their very many programs you can switch midstream like that?  It would seem really difficult to do that with general programs let alone logos.....

But of course I am the farthest thing from a programmer....

That I know of, none, I am just used to using the Logos Web site and switching back and forth from spanish to english as my heart desires[:D]

Of course changing a web page from spanish to english is easy compared to changing the whole interface from Spanish to English and back to Spanish.[^o)]

I know how confusing it is to just type in English on a Spanish Key Board and then type in Spanish an English Key Board (based on where I bought my latest computer.

I might be asking for to much, but it does not hurt to ask, you never know we might recieve it down the road.[:D]

    So true.....

I get a little weirded out just changing my keyboard to Hebrew to type.  I make my own Flashcards and such.

If it could be done, this would definitely be very useful, but I agree there are more important things to do first.
