BUG? Random appearance of English translations in Hebrew drop-down menus

BWS for h:rosh gives right hand column with English translations in the drop-down menu. BWS for h:qadosh does not. Neither does Basic Search for h:halacha. It seems very random. And I have no chance of seeing the vocalizations with the tiny tiny script in the drop-downs, so I really really need the English translations! (And bigger fonts!)

PS. Very random indeed! Now h:qadosh in BWS does give me translations, though an hour or two it didn't, and a week and a half ago it didn't either. And h:halacha in Basic still doesn't. Nor do h:rosh or h:qadosh when in Basic.

I would like to help you with this problem, but I am having difficulty visualising what you mean. It would help me greatly if you could post a screenshot to illustrate the problem. Then I could try to reproduce it and get back to you.

OK, I hope you'll find a screenshot below this. There should be a column to the right with the English translations, but there isn't. I was hoping to post another one as well with the translations, but right now it seems I can't get any for any words. I've tried at least 10-15. I guess that's at least consistent, but it's consistent in the wrong way...

I don't think there's anything random about it. It's implemented in Bible Word Study. It's not (currently) implemented in search auto completion. They're two completely different controls that serve similar, but distinct purposes. It's known and I'm sure it's on someone's list to fix.

Thanks. Now I know what you are getting at. I've never seen translations there. That's why I couldn't visualise your problem! I must say that I wouldn't expect to see translations there. To the best of my knowledge the drop-down words are in order of most likely fit. Most times it will be the first one you want to select. I agree that the vowels are very difficult to read, especially with my eyes. I'm not sure that I would find a gloss/translation helpful here, though. I don't know whether it's there in the Windows version, because I don't have it. Perhaps someone who uses the Windows version could say?

Sorry that I can't be of more help here.

As I said in the first post, I was definitely getting English translations in some searches at that point, as well as at various times earlier. And, yes, it was very helpful.

I'm afraid I'm having difficulty understanding exactly what you're saying. Could you elaborate? (Glad it's on someone's list, though.)

The way you worded the bug report implies that you believe that the behavior of the suggestion-list popup used in Bible Word Study and the suggestion-list popup in search are the same or at least closely related. They're not, as they do two distinct but similar jobs. The one in bible Word Study allows you to choose one item from a fairly constrained list of options–if the option isn't in the list, you won't get results. The one in search is offering suggestions for individual terms in a (potentially) complex query the includes multiple terms. I realize this is not necessarily obvious to the user, nor would I expect a user to know or care. However, the language you used to report it suggested that it was a single thing behaving unpredictably. In fact, it is two different things that closely resemble one another. One is behaving properly, the other is not.

Making the search auto-completion suggestions richer so that they match the suggestions in Logos 4 Windows is a known issue that someone is working on.

Here you have one with translations:

I was replicating the wrong search. Bible search instead of BWS. [:$] So maybe now I understand better what you're trying to say. Note, however, that the first two examples in my OP both were in BWS, and one gave translations, one didn't.

Thanks. Yes, you're right; I did assume they were supposed to work the same.

However, as I wrote simultaneously to you writing this, the BWS is nevertheless behaving unpredictably. Note my first two sentences in the OP: "BWS for h:rosh gives right hand column with English translations in the drop-down menu. BWS for h:qadosh does not. "

But it seems that they both do now. [:)]

BTW thanks for showing me how to run a search in BWS, I'd never used it that way before. I've always done it as a right-click on a word in the text.

For the moment, yes. I guess that's what makes it 'random'...[:)]

Wow, someone is learning something from me, who still don't know the first thing about this program! [:)] I've never done it by right-clicking; I'm still just poking around trying out one feature at a time.

Six months ago I was assured English translations in Search dropdowns was on someone's list to fix. Has anything happened? I'm having some real trouble knowing what word to select when the dropdown looks like this:

    image

It would help if I could at least figure out which ones are verbs and which ones are nouns... [;)]

It works on the Windows side (in Morph Search, not Bible search -- perhaps that's by design). The English translations show up only beside the lemmas (by design), but they do show up:

Yes, Cameron said that in one of his answers (but it's always nice to have it confirmed). I guess this should be added to KS4J's feature parity list, if it isn't there already (too tired to check, but I can't remember seeing it).

I checked Bible search. It's even worse. There they're not even listed together, but spread out over the whole list.
