Logos 4, but nothing new for the Mac Version

Logos, you're killing me.
I was so excited to finally get upgraded and have the Mac version finally at all the features of the PC version (because right now the Mac version is so paired down it's like a "glorified eBook reader"
Logos 4 is released today and still no changes for the Mac version?
If you are already a Logos Bible Software for Mac user, upgrading to Logos Bible Software 4 will not change your existing installation.
Is this true? Or am I missing something?

James,
This will not answer your dilemma but thought it a good place to add the following information.
The Mac is in Alpha testing right now but available for those wanting to get their hands dirty: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LBS4MacInstallerBeta/4.0.3.2012/Logos4Mac.dmg
The Mac development is "catching up rather quickly" and with the release of the Windows I'm sure the Mac is now a great focus for the company.

It will not change your current install because they are different bases. The Mac version is not feature complete but they did not forget about the Mac world.

James,
As the others have said, work on the Mac version continues. Lots of work remains and we are still a few months from seeing the Mac version catch up to the Windows version. Still, news is much better than it used to be - Logos has promised regular, continued development of the Mac version to make it equivalent to the PC version. Soon the Beta (Alpha) testing will enter a full public stage and Logos has promised new builds every two weeks.
You can see my initial comments about the Mac version at http://www.seektheholy.com/2009/11/02/introducing-logos-4/#mac

Sorry about that -- it's definitely not our intention. But Windows still represents ~90% of our market. As I point out on the web page, we realize the Mac is a key part of our future, and we've been working (and hiring!) to catch up there. But we're still a bit behind because of how long the first version took.

Bob:
We know that Windows is the greatest proportion of Logos' business but Logos for Mac was released without nearly ANY of the features of the PC version (no addins, no notes, nothing) it is a $1300 eBook reader with strong search capabilities (yet w/o the ability to graph or visualize them).
And now 4 is released still with no Mac improvements what so ever making the gap between the two even greater now.
This is a real test for my sanctification. Yeah, I joke but it is crazy frustrating.

James,
There are improvements to the Mac version in that Logos has released an Alpha version of Logos 4 for Mac that users can play with. This version is not yet ready for real-world use but it does give Mac users encouragement that development continues. Development in version 1 of the Logos for Mac engine ceased so Logos could focus development on version 4.
I would like to see better tools come faster, but I'm pleased with what Logos is currently offering, particularly since I know that within a few months we will really begin to see a great Logos application for the Mac.

There is a flaw in your analogy. The redheaded stepchild didn't choose his red hair or family breakup. Mac users did choose to buy Macs. [6]
(I should know, because 3 of my siblings and 6 of my kids have red hair.)
btw (laughing right now): Who says red hair is a bad deal? Thank God only my beard is red!)

I downloaded and installed the Alpha, successfully logged in, and then it says "waiting for the indexer" and shuts down...
Not sure what to do now.

Ben,
Alpha 1 is very unstable. Do you have a blue Logos icon at the top of the screen? It may be indexing or downloading resources. Or the whole thing may have just crashed. Try running again (and again, and...) and see what happens. Some people have not gotten it to run at all. I've been able to use it but it crashes easily.
I think we can anticipate Alpha 2 being released soon and hopefully that will make things a little more stable.

Come on Guys, an Alpha 1 and a Final Release are far different animals, you cant say at this point that you are hard done by, give the programmers time to do their work.

We discovered a last minute incompatibility with a resource; a new drop of the Mac alpha will be available later today.

Pastor Bob,
if that was a joke, then forget what I'm about to say...but if it wasn't ...that was a cheap shot and not very indicative of a Christian attitude.
forgive my bluntness.

Ok, I started the installation around 4 hours ago, and I have the little blue icon. When I mouse over it, the text indicates that Logos is indexing my library, and in parenthesis gives a time remaining. This time has indicated something over 2 hours for at least 3 hours now. Does anyone have an idea if this is expected or normal?

Yes, this is normal. The first time you index it does take a while -- there's no way around it, it's doing a huge amount of work. But subsequent indexing will be through a smaller supplemental index, or in the background. And once indexing is done you'll get great performance on searches across your whole library. It's worth it!

I feel dumb. I have attempted to re-install now with what I think is the updated Alpha. My library appears to be intact, but there doesn't seem to be any functionality. The dumbness comes in where I think I did something wrong, or in that I expected some functionality that is not there. Can someone confirm that the Alpha actually does something? I will at least be able to eliminate that as a possible reason for my confusion.

Well, now I know it does something! [:)]
I have been able to bring up the passage guide. It doesn't seem to find anything when doing a search, but at least it is trying!
This is probably what we get for now. I'm really looking forward to what is to come!

Dave,
Has your library finished indexing? Results might be limited while indexing takes place.

I noticed that when doing a fresh install...until the first index is FINISHED you won't get any results...

I interrupted the indexing by re-installing because I saw an updated version of the Alpha was posted. When I re-launched the program after installation, the indexing never resumed. I don't know how to restart it. Eventually, I will call tech support if no instructions are posted here.

I haven't noticed any download activity yet, though my indexing is still going on. It looks like mine will finish at about 6 hours after it started. So far it looks like it is going to be a nice program, but I am looking forward to completion like the rest of you. One thing I did notice is that it seems to be multi processor aware, is this true? If so does it use grand central in Snow Leopard, if so great work guys!
