Logos as an E-Reader

As I read this article, I was left with the question, "Why couldn't LOGOS fulfill the role suggested for e-readers by the author."

LOGOS is doing what other e-readers are not doing. So, rather than porting Logos titles to Kindle, what about porting other books and resources to LOGOS?

One more thought - I think I remember seeing, several years ago, that LOGOS (remember Libronix) was trying to partner with other than Christian publishers. For example, I found the following description:

I can't help but wondering if LOGOS was ahead of its time.

Logos does work as an e-reader. The Logos app for iPad/iPhone (and soon to be Android) makes for an excellent e-reader app. It offers similar fnuction to other e-reader apps and has the added benefit of books being integrated into your Logos library with all the searching power behind it.

Good idea. Logos could develop the market for selling academic books. However, to be useful they would have to be sold for the iPad version of Logos.

Logos on the computer is a terrible ereader, though great for deeper study. That is why many people format Logos books to Kindle in order to read them. (I am talking more about cover to cover reading.)

The Kindle on the other hand is great for cover to cover reading, but terrible for deeper study. Navigation is a problem.

Logos on the iPad is a great ereader, and far better than Kindle for study. Navigating back and forth within the text of a book is much easier than any ereader. It would make a great solution for academic study.

A big problem is that Logos is such a closed system. it is easy to format text (or reformat text) for a Kindle, but I can't format a pdf or other file for Logos. I can reformat Logos for a Kindle, though. And it is often done. If a Logos resource is not available for the iPad, folks export it and convert it to an iPad compatible format. So the road between Kindle and Logos is a one way street. Since Logos is primarily a book seller, it is probably not to their advantage to open up their format.

Formating a book for Logos appears to be expensive and complicated. It might be simpler for academic books, but I don't know about that. It is certainly cheaper to format for Kindle. Also, universities use so many different texts. The size of the market may not justify the cost of production.

I like the iPad idea or the (hopefully) comparable Android app. It just seemed to me that the list of features wanted by the general student population (see the above article) compared favorably to those included in LOGOS. It apparently matched the original vision that began as Libronix. I don't expect it to happen, but it does seem like a good idea and a way to grow LOGOS market.
