Search Help Idea

When doing a general search I noticed for the first time a very brief shadowy gray suggestion on how to format one possible search.   It made me wonder if it was possible to have in its place something like a question mark which could be clicked and would in turn reveal a pop down list of the most popular search formats?  I am constantly trying to remember the various formats and possibilities when it comes to search.  I have even considered printing out a little search "cheat sheet" to keep handy.  But, hey, a drop down menu or something similar might be helpful!

    Hi Garrett

Does http://wiki.logos.com/Search_HELP help you (along with the other related Wiki search articles)?

Oh yes.  But I am thinking here more of the convenience of being able to stay in my program and search screen while being able to click a drop down that I could use and then immediately use it to enter my search.  Does that make sense?  I am sure many users have the formats memorizes with all the possible options but not me!

The Morph search provides a drop-down facility to choose morphological options so I assume you are thinking of something else.

Do you want - for example - this dropdown to show you possible Boolean operations (AND, OR, NEAR, etc) or how to construct a Lemma search?

I guess I'm interested in some specific examples as there is such richness in the search options that predicting what people might want and making them available in a drop-down format seems like a major piece of work.

As an alternative, have you considered saving your favourite searches in the shortcuts bar so they are immediately available and you don't need to remember the formats?

You could also build a cheat sheet for yourself in a Note (from the wiki Search HELP page) and have that note easily accessible via a Shortcut bar button.

I've been creating my own sheet sheet - only 1 of 4 options filled out at this point. Unfortunately, I've found it raises as many questions as it answers about incompletely documented options. But I keep plugging away.

Wow, that looks awesome. That'll be something to post on the wiki when it's done. (Are things like these ever "done"?)
