Bug: Mary, mother of Jesus search

Here is the search I did first:

As you can see, there was a LCV recommendation: search for ("... instead? I clicked on it and got this as a result:

No more topic section!

I am using 4.3 beta 4. I don't know whether the problem is with the beta only or also with stable versions of L4.

I shouldn't laugh but this is a funny error.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

You need to deselect "Match all word forms" in the Search menu to avoid the match on Marie.

The lack of topics illustrates the lack of functionality in the current Topic Search ie. you will see it for one phrase, one word. However your original query should have been enclosed in quotes  ie "Mary, the mother of Jesus"  if that was the expression you wanted (the comma is ignored). Without the quotes Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary the mother of Jesus are different queries because the comma is a search operator.

Actually, I have no issue with Marie appearing on even Marry (as the article establishes a connection to the name Mary). My problem is that typically the recommendation "search string of terms instead" correspond to more matching headings (like Eucharist, communion for Lord's Supper). The normal behaviour I have experienced before today is that the topics section will incorporate all the articles with headwords equivalent to the original query as far as the referent goes.

In this case however, the behaviour is different. The proposed list looks good but the results are disappointing. AND "Mary, the mother of Jesus" (the original query) is included in the second query but there is no matching topic entry. I see your point with regard to the comma. However, my original query though imperfectly syntaxed (no quotes) found the right matches but the suggested query though clearly about the same referent does not find them.

Yes, I was thinking about that (my answer was a little trite). Of the recommended terms I found that "Mary of Nazareth, Mother of Jesus" did not produce a Topic section, yet it is shown as an LCV article in "Every Woman in the Bible" if you search on "Mary the virgin"! That is likely a bug, but I'm not certain how best to report that; perhaps an email to logos4feedback@logos.com

My past experience has been that Melissa or Bradley monitor threads like this one.

Yes, I know that Melissa monitors the PC Beta forum for bug reports, and the Logos 4 forum as long as the subject is prefixed with Bug: which this one was.

    We'll look into this, thanks.
