Hi There,

I didn't find this question on the Forum, so
I'm asking it here.

I have recently purchased a resource for Logos 4 and I wanted to make sure that it was downloaded correctly when I started up Logos 4.

I have been using Logos 4 on my Dell (Core 2
Duo computer), but I was on my old computer (HP) today and I fired up Logos 4 in order to automatically download and index the new resource - but I am missing Resources (not just today's purchase but other recent ones as well) and my Reading Plan is way behind (and I am current
on the Dell) and I am missing Notes that I've added to the Dell.

I typed "Update Now" and
"Update Resources" in the Command box and I believe that is why I am
now at version 4.2a SR-5 (which I think is the newest version), but nothing else has updated.

Also I don't have any "syncing arrows" to the left of the "Layouts" section on the Menu Bar where the syncing arrows normally appear.

I also have "Automatically Download Updates" set to "Yes" in Program Settings.

I even tried to make a new Note to see if that would generate a new sync cycle but it didn't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i know very little about reading logs, but i noticed this fairly early on in your log file

    2011-05-12 00:06:10.9375    5    Info    WebServiceClient    (31.77s) Calling IsLoggedIn.
    2011-05-12 00:06:10.9531    5    Error    WebServiceClient

And there was mention of Proxy embedded in the Error message.

    • Do you use proxy with your internet connection with your HP? (this may or may not have anything to do with your logging in since you were able to update Logos 4 Software)
    • Is your Logos User ID correct when logging in on the HP?
    • Have you tried starting Logos 4 while holding down the Ctrl key to bring up the login screen? (make sure that you are not working Offline)

This would seem to make sense in that Logos would allow anyone to update Logos software, but it would not allow you to update resources unless it successfully logged into Logos with your User ID.
EDIT: it would also fit that syncing would be disabled until you were successfully logged in.

If this does not help, hopefully someone else with more knowledge will post to help you.

Good read, Steve.  Later log entry shows working offline:

2011-05-12 00:06:18.5781 1 Info LDLS4.AppModel Working offline; not creating resource metadata update service client.

Consistent with WebServiceClient error to Logos servers (login failed); hence no updates and no sync arrows.

Wonder if can login to http://www.logos.com ?

If can login to Logos.com web site, wonder about starting Logos 4 with Ctrl key, then retype your Logos account password, followed by "Sign In" ?

Hi Steve Clark and Keep Smiling,

Thank you both so much for your replies to my problem.  Although I don't quite understand why, the suggestion that you both made to hold down "Ctrl" while starting up Logos 4 fixed the problem!

Before I did that, I logged onto www.logos.com and signed out of my account, then I signed back in again and tried Logos 4 after that, but I still couldn't "sync."

So then I started up Logos 4 while holding down the "Ctrl" key and when the Sign-In screen came up I just clicked on "Sign In" because the email address and the password were filled in - and I could tell by the length of the password that it must be the correct password - BUT it came back with a message that said Logos 4 could not connect with www.logos.com.

So I deleted the password and typed it in again and clicked on "Sign In" and now I'm in and I got the sync arrows and now it's downloading some updates!

I don't understand what could have happened, because obviously I was connected to the Internet if I was typing in a question on the Logos Forum and also because the Logos 4 software was updated to the newest version.

That must have been because Steve Clark said that Logos would update the software, but not the Library if it couldn't access the Logos servers, but I don't know why I was "offline" as far as the Logos servers were concerned.

Any ideas on that - so that I don't end up in that situation again?

Thanks again to you both for your help - I really appreciate it.

The log indicated an authentication Service timeout, so this appeared to be internal to Logos! There isn't anything you could do to avoid it.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you very much for your reply to my post.

At least I know that I didn't do anything to precipitate the issue.

Thanks so much for your input.
