Indexing for 6 hours

On my MacBook Pro, Logos for the Mac has been indexing for about 6 hours now. Same with my iMac. Is that normal behavior?

Unfortunately this does not sound unreasonable. Are you running the Mac Alpha, or the Windows release?

Yes. Indexing takes a very long time, depending on how many resources you have. Be patient. Trust me, it is worth the wait.

p.s. I am using v4 on a PC, but I assume the Mac version is similar.

Yes, depending on the system, indexing can run anywhere from 8 to 24+ hours. It's only an issue on first install and then when you add a large number of resources to your collections. Logos has come a long way and devoted a lot of work to streamlining the indexing.

If you've installed and indexed on one computer can you copy over the index to another - a netbook for example - and have it work? I read elsewhere on the forum that indexing on a netbook took one person about 15 hours!

I don't know how to move an index file from one computer to the next, and I am pretty sure it will not work.
15 hours is possible, but the patience is worth it. Really.

In the Beta we asked about this and never were told to do this. While I suppose in THEORY it could work, I wouldn't do it personally. Logos 4 is designed to manage all of this, and while initial setup is time consuming, I don't like the idea of short-cuts that could give wacky results.

I know you all sleep sometime! Just leave it running over night, it should be done by morning. I can't help download speeds though...

Yikes! I have two computers indexing approximately 4,000 resources. It appears I am going to be using my hard resources until next year.

Remember that none of your PBB's, and none of your Logos 3 help files will be available to L4, and therefore not indexed. If you have 4,000 standard Logos resources, you have a lot more than most.
Indexing will take the longest the first time. Be patient. It will be worth the wait.

I know your are exagerating, but first of all, even while indexing, you CAN use Logos 4 resources for just about anything you can use the dead tree versions. On any reasonably modern computer, indexing should be done by tomorrow.
Also, you can use Libronix 3.0f while you wait if you need more than just reading. Trust us, the final results will be worth the wait, even if the wait is frustrating the first time.

If you hover over the icon in the tray it will give you a rough estimate how much longer it may take. It's only an estimate so take it with a lot of salt. :-)
