Lectures on the Religion of the Semites

This series of lectures (particularly the first series found in CP http://www.logos.com/product/9403/lectures-on-the-religion-of-the-semites) is quite a famous work. In playing around with the various categories in CP I discovered that at $10 this is rated as dead last in "Savings." This got me to thinking that, if some who may have bid at $8 or lower would raise their bids to $10, we might get it even cheaper and therefore at greater savings. If you haven't already bid on this, it is closing am Freitag 20/5/11 (yes, I did that deliberately).

Thank you. Bid placed.

Smith's companion volume is included in this collection that ships this week. If you find it interesting jump on it now as the price will jump later.

I am afraid even if it doesn't jump it won't fit my budget... Nice books though. Debt slavery is very interesting.

I was expecting this set this past week. I wonder whether it will be further delayed.

Yeah. If only every book would come through Community Pricing at $8 each!
There was a thread somewhere that had users posting the average cost per book in their Logos library. Mark Barnes probably calculated his most accurately but some folks paid as high as $10 per book and others estimated as low as $3 each. I think George had a high rate per book because he has expensive tastes for language works and avoids the apologetics stuff. (Right George? [8-|] )
I still can't sign on at $160 for the Classic Commentaries and Studies on Revelation in CP. That is just too high for what is included.

I wouldn't say that I have expensive tastes. What I have is very discriminating tastes which means that they also end up being expensive.
So don't sign on at $160 for the commentaries on Revelation. I didn't. I bid $50, and I think that might be a bit high.

How would someone raising from $8 to $10 make it cheaper?

I can't remember anyone as high as $10 (though there might well have been), but I'm pretty certain there were several below $2. And I'm pretty certain I was lowest, at about 1.61-1.62 or so.

Ultimately it might be cheaper since in the end everyone seems to start piling on. By raising the bid to $10 there might even be enough support to bring the price down to $8 or even less. If there are sufficient numbers at $10 or higher it carries down to the lower levels as well. If someone indicates they will pay $100 then they will also pay $10 so a sufficient number of bids at $100 will count toward those necessary to get it for $10.

No, it won't. That person is already in for $8, so raising to $10 won't make any difference at all to the final price (though it would get him a resource he might otherwise miss). If there was a $9 alternative, raising would make a difference, and if someone raises from $6 to $8 it will make a difference, but not if he raises from $8 to $10.

Just a few more bids needed to get this down to $6.

From the two pages that I have scanned, this is a good resource for comparative religious studies. I am amazed at the similarities between Israel and her neiighbours.

Yes, it is an understandable misconception that Israel was nothing like other peoples in the neighborhood since the OT continually stands in opposition to the other cultures. It would also be good to read

I bid $20. It will be interesting to see where it ends up. So few have bid on it that it's a pretty flat curve at this point.
