See my hread in mobile web for more info. Been waiting for this or well over a year. I have 6 devices and Android development is my retirement hobby.
I have 20 published apps, worked at MSFT for 11 years, wrote C# book, and contributed to debugging book.

I've never written an app...I still work, I've never written a good book report let alone a book...
And I want to be an Android beta tester too! [:O]

Robert,
WTH ... I did these things prior to my USMC injuries worsening to a point of causing me to lose everything despite 12 surgeries. Now I pretty much live life in a recliner with an occassional outing to watch my sons activities.
Given my injuries: Logos, Kindle & Nook are large parts of my life now. So I wrote this post thinking it would be a great opportunity to maybe stretch my activities and run through some use cases while at the same time benefiting Logos.
So if you don't feel dumb now for making jest at the expense of disabled veteran, you should. Regardless, I feel sorry for you because as you said your so dumb you can't write code much less write a good book report.
You sound like a great guy Robert..

Am I missing something here? Where's the "jest at the expense of disabled veteran" in Robert's post? The way I read him he's belittling himself, not you.
I'm sorry you were offended, but I think you read something that wasn't there.

I didn't take it that way...

First, Thank you for your service Gregory.

I know Robert and he would never do that. (Remember, you did not mention your service or injuries when he posted.) Robert was just saying he would love to be an Android tester - even though he has never done any of the things you have accomplished.

He is.
fyi: Every now & then somebody says something like "Matthew doesn't have a leg to stand on." or "You put your foot in your mouth, Matthew." I razz them over the fact my right foot is amputated. Most don't know that detail about me, or forget it so I have a lot of fun making them feel guilty. Anyhow, Welcome to the forums! [:D]

Thanks Matthew. I may have misconstrued Robert as I am still really touchy about this.
Its been a rough three years for me.

Greg,
I've been off of the forum for a day...my wife had surgery so I missed this.
I'm sorry you misunderstood my post...I have a dry sense of humor and it backfires sometimes...I would certainly NOT belittle you or your military service or disability....I was only pointing out that I'm MUCH less the scholar than you and I'd also love to test the android app...
Sorry for the confusion...

Robert or Gregory, does the Android work on the GSM network?

No worries Robert. All resolved. Email and forums are hard places to judge intent between strangers at times.

Lynden,
GSM network would be AT&T in the US, so that would leave you with the XOOM on AT&T for tablet and an EVO or Atrix for phone options.

Ahh, thats different then as I would bet on the Bahamas having a more European network where all the carriers are running GSM. This means you would have many more options available to you.
Most of the Samsung Galaxy line (S, Vibrant)
HTC MyTouch
HTC Evo
HTC Desire
HTC Aria
Sony Xperia

You can also check out androidforums.com. Great community
http://phandroid.com/phones/ <- best generic phone info
Something you may wish to consider though is going to an Android Tablet like the Xoom and then use a feature phone. Depending upon your situation, I have found a tablet/feature phone combo is by far less costly than a android phone with data +- tablet. Many places have free Wifi and you can often dodge in and out of connectivity on WIFI with 3G+4G minimum plans.

I haven't any coding experience, but I would love to help out with android beta testing when that starts. Does anyone know of a sign up page?

Lynden,
Gregory has some great suggestions, I'd like to add a couple as well.
Anyone looking at an Android based phone should check out XDA Developers Forums - Theses guys are incredible working with the phones and can answer any questions about the hardware, software and for those of us in the techie realm, how much we can manipulate the phones for performance and to our liking.
As for the Galaxy S series from personal experience great phone hardware wise, pretty weak with the software support from Samsung. I had the Fascinate from Verizon and the last update really messed the phone up bad. Same with the warranty replacements had it exchanged for a newly released HTC Droid Incredible 2 which is Global so it works on CDMA and GSM networks. It also goes by Incredible S internationally, I could recommend it... Nice crisp 4 inch screen which works great for Acro Bible which I'm using until Logos releases the Android app....

XDA is a great site. So is www.android.net. Android.net is the master site for 4 other sites: xoomforums.com, droidxforums.com, droidforums.com, and androidtablets.net. I also recommend mydroidworld.com and cyanogenmod.com.
In fact, I encourage people to stick to cyanogenmod compliant phones. These guys have created a special blend of Android that is amazingly fast and stable. My only issue with Cyanogenmod is that they do very few Motorola devices which IMHO is the best device manufacturer. The other manufacturers don't even come close.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep this in mind, and refer back to it, when it is time to change my phone.
