Yes, I use the CaTHOLIC lectionary, week by week. That, plus lesson preparation (if the story doesn't impact me, my sharing of it won't impact anyone else either!) covers my Bible study through the week. One thing I miss in the Logos edition of the Catholic lectionary is the psalm for each Sunday. I can find that in my paper missal. But if I'm away I don't even pack my Hebrew Bible, let alone a missal!

I do appreciate being able to see the readings for the next Sunday on the homepage at a glance.

If you want to be radically ecumenical you could steal a glance at the Revised Common Lectionary where there seems to be a Psalm included.

No - the psalm is technically the "responsorial psalm" being the assembly's response to the Scripture they have heard. It is normally tied to the first reading (Old Testament) but is often tied to the Gospel. There are a number of ways it can be in relationship. If no such relationship exists the final rule is "the chosen psalm would not have been otherwise used" There are also rules that allow for the substitution of psalms.

I continue to wish for the Daily Catholic Lectionary. I had it in Logos 3 and I really miss it. I don't understand what is taking so long to get that added to Logos 4....

Lou asked for and received the file. However, the new version includes the sanctoral cycle which adds some features that may be requiring more work than just rebuilding the lectionary resource. I don't have any inside information that that is what is going on - it's just that it does add some new wrinkles.

You're welcome. How would you like to know why the psalm got "forgotten". For Catholics the readings are spread (ideally) across 3 roles. The first and second readings are read by a lector, the responsorial psalm is led or sung by a cantor, and the Gospel is read by a deacon (or priest). Hence, 3 books for 4 readings.

Yes they do. But I don't know what the substitution rules are outside the Catholic tradition. I also don't know how much change there is in the responsorial psalm for the time between Pentecost and Advent - this is the period that has dual threads OT wisdom /prophets for the more Catholic approach, OT narratives for the more Lutheran approach.

I'm being radically ecumenical anyway, to the disapproval of some of the less ecumenical brethren. I'm a (not very good) Anglican, worship with the Catholics, and run Bible studies in a Muslim village on an evangelical model....

In college the coasters (East or West Coast students as opposed to Midwestern where the college was located) were truly radical interfaithers until the college declared we had to prove there was a service to attend. Until then, many paper and test dates could be changed by those of us who were Jewish Catholic Buddhists.[:#]

It reminds me of a minister (Church of Scotland) who, opening his door to find a Roman Catholic stalwart standing there heard her say 'Minister might I have a word?'

'Goodness' he said, 'I hope you haven't come to convert!' Taken slightly aback the woman asked, 'Why not?'

'Well there's not that much difference you know', said the minister.

Thankfully she had only come for a 'second opinion' on a technical matter.

Hey ... are my eyes deceiving me or did we get an update to the Catholic Lectionary (date 7-28-11) that now includes the daily as well as Sunday readings? Seems like it! Thanks to MJ and all who helped to bring this to fruition!
