Does the beta 1 version not come with the passage guide and the other main menu options and tools?  All I have is web access to my library.

    Please advise.

    Received Beta 1 today.

Installed on Incredible, then Orig Droid, Droid X, and Samsung Charge with no issues.

Picks up purchased library with no issues.

Rotation while reading text, no problems.

Navigating by verse selection, no problems

WIll really start to wring it out tomorrow.

    Mel:

Touch the bottom of the screen and you will see a search bar and the navigation selection dialog.  Using this you can search by verse, or contents.

Got the app earlier today and installed it. Seems to run fine. One crash. Nothing major. But I had to reboot my phone (rooted and running most recent stable Cyanogenmod 7 on a Droid Incredible) and now I have a continual boot loop. :D Gotta love it!

    Not in panic mode yet.

First off, thanks for all your hard work.  I’m really excited to be trying the beta.  I hope this information will be useful and am
happy to provide any additional details upon request.

Specs: HTC Nexus One (AT&T version), Gingerbread
2.3.4, non-rooted, using Vodacom Tanzania network

    Observations

    · Issue: I don’t
have access to my whole library
including resources like the NIV Bible and
    HALOT.

    · Issue: Not
all resources are available for download/offline
use like the GNT.  Although I’m probably in the minority here,
my network connectivity isn’t always good since I’m in Tanzania so offline
    content is important to me.

    · Issue: Hebrew
    text appears to be scrunched
in the BHS, not just in popups.

    · Question: From the Logos site I remember the
Android page saying the Android app would be like the Iphone app and contain the
same features.  I may just not know how
to use the Android app, but I couldn’t find many features like reading plans,
    text comparison, passage guide, etc.
Will these features be added later on?

    · Suggestion: Many Android apps with long lists
have a thumb button that appears on the right hand side when you begin to
scroll down (like the music app).  This
would be very useful for the library page since some libraries can be very long.

    Blessings,

    Michael

It would also be useful to be able to filter the library by online and offline resources.

    Hey Jim,

Thanks for the tip. It works great.  My next question is this: is the 'swipe up' feature enabled for the Droid X? I just want to make sure that I have installed the application completely.  I am looking for the menu that contains the 'Passage Guide', 'Text Comparison', 'Search for Citations', 'Add to Favorites', 'Share' options (as in the iPhone video).

If this beta version does not have that functionality yet, I just wanted to know. Thanks.

    Phone Type: Droid X

Other than that, all else is looking good so far.  I'm very excited about dumping my other bible apps.  Thanks again Logos!

Samsung Nexus S. Latest version of Gingerbread

I've got the beta installed now and will be putting it through it's paces over the next few days. Started by downloading a few books for offline reading. Will post more later. Thanks Logos!

Oh I found something.  Whenever I try to navigate to Philemon I get a force close.  It I have reproduced it for several verses in Philemon and with two separate Bibles.  I can navigate to it if I am flipping pages from the previous book, but when navigating from book, chapter, and verse it force closes every time.  Otherwise I'm enjoying myself and it's great to have all this original language power in my pocket.

    Hi Mel:

I do not have a personal Droid X, ( I am using a HTC Incredible running Android 2.2.)  I was able to install & uninstall Logos on several phones at a Verizon store where a friend of mine works, but did not check out the swipe up functionality.  Remember that the phone would have to use the default Android keyboard, (Incredible uses the HTC Sense kbd.)  I would be surprised if it does not work as I believe that this is native Android functionality starting with version 2.2

Maybe one of the Android developers could better answer this, or I will try it the next time I am in the Verizon store.

I have a droid and a galaxy tab. I downloaded the nkjv on the tablet but it will not allow me to down load it on my phone. Any reason why?

MrPete here, Evo Shift 4G, droid 2.2, 16GB SD

    Installation went well.

I can confirm the following known issues:

    • Links inside footnotes are not clickable
    • Opening and navigating in a book cannot be cancelled. Beta Testers Take Note: this means any hiccup involving book opening or navigation means the app will hang. You must reboot or kill the app from an app manager to continue testing.

Issues for first-time installation (these are not repeatable after the app has been exited the first time, AFAIK):

    • PH-B01 First Time Bypass Login. If I click on the "Open" button made available immediately after successful installation, the app directly jumps into the ASV title page... bypassing the opening screen, and the login/config prompt. And there are no menus for adjusting your login id... so initially I thought the beta was only for a small number of public domain books! Exit the app and re-enter to see the login/config screen.
    • PH-B02 First Time (or Guest?) KJV will not open. During the same first-time "open" with no login configured, I downloaded the KJV (not Authorized Version - KJV1900.) and could not get it to display. This was not a network issue; the message was "Could not create
      a resource display."
    • PH-B03 Library display unusably slow for first hour. For the first hour or so of operation, the Library list would hardly scroll, up or down. "CatLog" (console logger) showed the app was downloading and unzipping many jpg files and other user interface elements. (I'm on a 1.5mbit DSL here, the fastest available in my area.)

    Significant usability defects:

    • PH-B04 Back exits, re-entry slow. It is too easy to completely exit the app (just press "Back")... and slow to re-enter.
    • PH-B05 Slow UI leads to user errors. Every page turn gives a delay; many other aspects involve delay. Plus there is no way to cancel a book change or navigation element (a known issue). The result: users easily press "back" one time too many. And due to bug PH-B04, you end up leaving the app. Great care is needed right now to avoid this.
    • PH-B06 No way to cancel/restart resource downloading. I have successfully downloaded several resources. However, some have never completed. There is no way to "poke" at an incomplete download, no way to cancel and restart.

    Other issues seen:

    • PH-C01 Crash during download of ASV resource file. (once only, not yet repeated.)
    • PH-C02 Crash during login (once only, not yet repeated.)

    Suggestions:

    • PH-S01 Support other reading modes (night, contrast). Would help to have "night mode" reading (white on black) and Very High Contrast reading (bold text everywhere) for sight-impaired readers
    • PH-S02 Support vertical text scrolling modes for small-screen users, particularly if the top of the page can be visibly rendered while more of the page is rendered in the background. Sideways "paging" is much less intuitive, and quite delay-ful :) ... (OR -- will the app cache a few pages forward and back? That might work...)
    • PH-S03 Support chapter "picker" in addition to book picker. Right now, a single button takes the user to a list of all Bible books. To jump to a different chapter, one must re-pick the current chapter, then choose a chapter. Suggestion: remove the text box (replace with a button), provide current book and chapter as buttons. Also make the current resource (ie Bible version) be a button as well for quick version switching (and perhaps later comparison etc of multiple versions.)

Hope this is helpful! THANK YOU for your great work. This will soon be an outstanding Bible reader!

    His blessings to you all,
    Pete

I confirm Michael's Philemon crash, and a bit more:

    • PH-C03 Crash when using "verse" navigation to Philemon, any verse, any resource. (Does not happen with 3Jn or Jude ;) ).
    • PH-C04 Crash recovery always fails the first time after PH-C03. After triggering PH-C03, the first attempt to start up fails -- it hangs while signing in. If I then kill it manually, and then start one more time, all is well. The app is NOT still running after PH-C03; checked that. However I do see (in CatLog) evidence of something attempting to auto-restart... but it fails.

    A few more bugs noted...

    • PH-B07 Some text symbols do not display at all. I first see this in "Apparatus for the SBL", at the beginning of "Symbols Used in the Text". All I see (where ___ is blanks) is: " ___ or ___ or __1 A textual note..." -- this for the first two entries. Then later, under "Symbols used in the notes", the first several ones are ok, but the double-square bracket symbol next to #6 is missing, "Used by Westcott and Hort to mark material that they did not think..."
    • PH-B08 Menu pops up broken arrows/indicator. In any Bible, pressing the Menu button brings up "Library", "History" and above those a pair of arrows and the current location in the center, a bit like this: << Matthew 5:9 >> ... Not sure if this is supposed to be functional, but right now it is broken in two ways: the left arrow will not "decrease" the location before the current verse, and there is no way to actually do anything -- the only functionality is to count verses "up" and back to where we are now.
    • PH-B09 Hang on sign-in after Exit-by-back-key. If I press the Android "go back" button while in the Library, Logos exits (at least visually -- it is still in memory). If I then press the Logos icon to start up again, I get "Initializing..." for a few seconds, then "Signing in..." forever. The only way out is to kill the app.
    • PH-B10 English text before Bible books is linked to Strongs?! At least in the AV/KJV, each word of the introductory text (found before many books of the bible) is highlighted as a link (cf Hebrews, etc). Click on it and you get a popup Strongs entry?! (Is this intentional?)
    • PH-B11 TDNTA links are broken. I have TDNTA (Theological Dictionary, Abridged in One Volume.) The links in Strongs to TDNTA give an error message: "Navigation Failed".

Three hints for other beta testers:

A partial "workaround" discovered for PH-B06: if a book download fails, and is hung, if I kill and restart the app several times, sometimes it eventually tries to download again. I've seen this happen twice, but I still have more than half a dozen "stuck"/failed downloads.

I use "Watchdog Lite" to easily kill Logos if/when needed. It's also a good tool for catching any rogue app that takes over your cpu :)

Because of bug PH-B09, for now the only clean way to "exit" is simply to go to another app (press Home, etc). Do NOT press the back button to get out. And no, there is not an "Exit" menu item. (Not really needed!)

OVERALL -- not bad for a first beta! Amazing how much works perfectly! (Example: my phone went into Airplane Mode for the night. The library was showing... it immediately reorganized to eliminate online books. I disabled Airplane mode, and the list filled right back up :)

    Blessings,
    Pete

    Found another bug:

When using the 'Lexham Greek Interlinear Septuagint,' the books menu appears distorted.  Chapters and verses appear normally but the books part looks funny and not all of the links seem to work.  Other OT resources like BHS don't have the same problem maybe it's the resources with the Apocrypha that have this problem.

    Jim,

The FAQ section says they are still working out a licensing issue to get the NIV on phones.  That had me worried to, but it should be available eventually.

NIV is not available yet. To see if a resource is available you have to check the resource page on Logos.com to see if the mobile web icon is showing (it looks like an ipod). This isn't a bug, but a licensing issue with Zondervan.

Just to add info: I'm not getting the Philemon crash. I navigated using by typing "Phile" from the keyboard and it went right to the correct book.

    this was done on my:

    Xperia X10

    Cyangenmod rom

    V 2.2

    rooted.

I can recreate the Philemon crash in different Bible translations and on both downloaded Bibles and those accessed via 3G. The crash only happens when selecting from the verse menu and not from direct entry into the address bar or by selecting Philemon from the contents menu.

So quick question for Team Logos... Not looking for any ETAs, but wondering if there is a beta release schedule we should look forward to? Similar to the desktop versions.... Once a week, every two weeks, etc...

Our schedule so far has been a "release" every two weeks. That may change later as we get into more complex features or if our developer time gets shifted around.

Hi Dave thanks sending through the link to beta version, my thanks to all those on Logos for the wonderful work they've done in providing a great product which is now being extended to the android platform.

I am running Android 2.2 on the Samsung Galaxy S, everything installed well all my books have been downloaded, the updates appear to be working well too. The only thing I notice which is strange  some books (4 so far),the first time I they open to last page or sometimes in the middle of the book.

I would like to make a suggestion for one of the features to be added next, as the beta version in its current form just enables me to read the books in my library,  It would be good to have the resource information  about the books available in the library view.

Once again well done keep up the good work.

    Martin

    Martin,

Logos syncs your last position in books. If you had a book open in Logos 4 or Logos for iOS to some point in the middle and later open the book in Logos for Android, it will open to the place you left off.

To view resource information, press the > arrow in the library view or the info button in the reading view.

When I first tried to install on my Droid X w/ Gingerbread it failed in installing - had to redownload and install.

    - Does it have an ability to go to the TOC or search a book?  Because all I can do right now is read a book.

  • Graham Criddle

    Michael

You can go to the TOC - open the book, tap the centre of the screen, tap the 5 horizontal lines icon to the right of the passage box and select the Contents tab,

At the moment you can't search a book
