Mac 4 Alpha - Stupid Question on Workspace

I have been using mac v1.1 and yesterday installed Mac 4 alpha but all I get when I hit the home page is a blank workspace (see screen shot)? Is that what it is supposed to look like? The blue icon is still indexing and downloading updates (has been for hours and hours), and I can see my old "gold" library, and a few of the new "gold" or "platinum" package I upgraded with (I assume they are still downloading?).

When I go to "program settings" it just says "no view exists for this panel"? Do I have to unlock the "upgrade" file by synching licenses or something, just wondering what I am missing. Thanks for any suggestions.

Oooh shiny! I can't wait to upgrade!!!!

(Actually I really am looking forward to upgrading) As alpha users for the mac, should we be reporting bugs? Is there a better place to do that than the forums?

The same thing is happening to me as well (referring to the home page). Moreover, when the Logos installer finished indexing/downloading it says that the updates are ready and asks me if its okay if I install them. I, of course, click yes. When I do it says that it is extracting update. It then asks me if I want to install and relaunch. I tell it to do so. It then opens up the screen that you showed an image of but more importantly the Logos 4 installer repeats the process I just mentioned. It keep doing this over and over. I have the Logos 4 Scholar's Library update and my library says that there are only 457 Resources (I thought there would be more--can anyone confirm if this is the right number or resources for the updated Scholar's package?).

I am running Mac OS X:Snow Leopard.

Scott,

The blank layout is the default way Alpha 1 opens. No home screen or some such yet. But you should be able to open your library (cmd-L, or click the book icon to the top left), run guides, etc. Still quite limited and crashes easily, but you should be able to do a few things.

Ok, thanks, so I guess what I am seeing is all that is available in the pre-release alpha? Glad Mac1.1 runs simultaneously. I am wondering if there is an end to the updates, currently downloading a 1.6G file but I can't keep track of which file it has downloaded, how many it has done, or how many are left to go.

So the files I downloaded from my account area of logos called "update.lbxupd" I don't need to do anything with? thanks for help.

Keep in mind, although there is nothing much to the interface, ALL the features currently in the Windows version ARE ALREADY in the Mac Alpha we are downloading. The developers are now adding the interface so we can use the features. That is much farther along than a typical Alpha release.

Oh, I should also mention that in the early Beta stages of the Windows version, indexing took up a huge amount of resources to run. As we got into it, the developers were able to reduce the load on the computer. I imagine it will be much the same with the Mac version. It is a resource hog now, but given a few iterations, the developers will refine this as well.

Probably not. During the windows Beta, the downloads were many and large. It is part of the process right now, so if it is annoying, it is probably best to not Alpha test at all and wait until the program is more developed.

mine indexes for a few minutes and doesnt seem to download a thing the icon goes away and i amd left with zero resources. I have mac 1.2 installed on same user so why am i now getting any resources downloaded and the messages like yo people are.. weird

I have been experiencing a similar issue in that the installer is continually attempting to install updates and relaunch the program, but as far as I can tell there is never a new version of the program after it has done so (I have pre-release Alpha 4.0.3.2462). I'm thinking that it's a waste of my time to keep clicking yes to install additional updates at this point if they are not doing anything--or are the updates doing something that I can't see and that don't change the version number that I have?

The Alpha will copy over your Mac 1 resources, but Logos has unlocked many new resources for use during the Alpha/Beta testing. A1 is downloading the new resources you will get to use and play with during testing.

Joe, thanks for the info, didn't ever really have a problem with the updates, just was wondering out loud how many there were on the initial install before they finish, I understand they will be pretty constant as it moves through the life cycle of the testing.

So the resources are different during the A/Beta testing? Interesting... we are on the Platinum package so I assume we don't loose resources when the testing is over? It says I have 888 but when I look for some I should have they aren't there, guess it is still indexing them or something.

My concern with this is that I am having a message asking me to install updates. It then relaunches my program then asks me to install the same updates I already installed.

What should I look for when I have an actual update to install and not one that sends me into a install relaunch loop?

Well, the resources that are updated for 4.0 are not new, but as Logos continues to retag all the older 3.0 resources, these will get updated and pushed to our computers. So at this point, the resource updates have little, if anything, to do with the Alpha and more to do with the upgrade to 4.0. The main point is, it probably wont slow down for a while and if there is a bug in the Alpha process, it is hard to tell what kind of new downloads we might have to make.
