Searching the Bible (RVR60) for the Spanish word for "ejercitado" (exercised) y obtained numerous hits for the unrelated word "ejército" (army).
Fernando, it is likely you need to uncheck 'Coincidir todas las palabras' (Match all word forms) in the panel menu to get results for just the specific word for which you are searching.
Thanks for the suggestion.
That would do it, but there are other related words that are of interest and would be missed, e.g., ejercitar, ejercicio, etc. I would like to match all word forms.
The point is that "ejército" is totally unrelated. The accent on the é makes a big difference. ejercito (w/o the accent) is the first person singular form of exercise as in "I exercise". ejército (w/ the accent) is "army".
Blessings, Fernando
Yep it may be a bug of some kind! But is it also possible that "ejercito" is not in your Lib?[*-)]
Come to think of it, looking at my screen shot, you are right, it shoud be accent sentive! My screen shot proved your point. Tom
Opps, I forgot you were using the Mac Version. The Window version works fine[:D]
I see the issue now.
That is by design. It was determined that the search was too limiting if accents were required in the query in order to bring up hits with accents, so accents are ignored. Feel free to search for or submit a UserVoice suggestion if you would like to see this changed: http://logos.uservoice.com
Hermano Fernado, I would like you to see may screen shots (logos4 Window). In the window version it is does alow searches using the actcent.
See Below. Notice using the ejécito seaching the RVR60 I only come up with 240 results.
See Below: If I put in ejercitados, I only come up with two results.
See Screen shot below. Searching for ejercitado, I get no (Zero) results. [:'(]
If I change the setting as suggested. I get 587 results. [:O]
Not clicking "Concidir" gives me the best results, But remember that it is Logos4 windows version.
I think your are right (tienes razon) it is a bug for "macies"[;)]

That's what I thought.
Tom, thanks for checking the Windows version...

Apologies if I am reiterating an understood point, but I just wanted to clarify that all of the examples Tom has posted from the Windows version of the program I am able to duplicate in the Mac version. So the two platforms are exhibiting the same behavior in this case. Just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page. [:)]

Thank you Tonya for following up. Although I now realize that Windows and Mac may behave the same in the search (as you indicate), I'm not sure we are on the same page because the lack of discrimination between accents suggests a lack of sensitivity towards how the Spanish language works. I don't think that placing a "UserVoice" suggestion will get Logos to modify how the search function searches in Spanish since the vast majority of users do not search in Spanish and this would be an irrelevant issue to most users, and I would not expect it to get the needed attention in that milieu. Logos either considers it an issue to be resolved or it doesn't and I'll just live with it. Thank you though.
This issue was considered not just by the Development Department when programming the expected behavior but also by our Spanish Department for optimal outcome. For a clearer explanation, I posed the question back to Development.
The response from Development was:
Stemming is algorithmic, not dictionary-based, so there are two problems that can be encountered:1) related words are not stemmed the same (e.g., "ran" and "run" in English)2) unrelated words are stemmed the same (e.g., "ejercito" and "ejército" in Spanish). This is not due to simply ignoring accents in Spanish; the Spanish stemming algorithm can be examined here (http://snowball.tartarus.org/algorithms/spanish/stemmer.html) and you can see that it defines á é í ó ú ü as separate vowels. The "Match all word forms" is intended to be useful in the 98% of cases where the algorithm's results match a native speaker's understanding; it is not intended to be 100% perfect.
Tonya,
Thanks for the explanation.
