BUG How to navigate within a book?
Hi, I've successfully downloaded to HTC Desire on Android 2.2, with a few resources downloaded too. I've been really looking forward to this.
However, I'm struggling with being able to do much with it. The list of planned features is nearly the full functionality that I had expected (or maybe a little less for a Beta). But of the features that are supported, the most necessary feature is navigation within a book, but this doesn't work well for me:
Navigate by
- Verse picker
- Table of contents
- Typed reference
- Slider
In a downloaded commentary (Pillar commentary on John), I can scroll left and right, but when using the Option key, the < and > do not work (they simply switch between displaying the verse reference that the commentary points to, and the page number). None of the navigation options listed above seems to work (e.g. no slider displayed, no intuitively visible ways to get to a table of contents or enter a reference, etc). The only way to get from page 1 to page 500 is to scroll through each page, one at a time. The same applies to other non-Bible books too.
When navigating within the ESV, I can only pick verses on the page already displayed, but have to scroll left and right to move all the way through John 1 to John 17 etc, with no TOC or verse picker.
The only options I can see after pressing the Option key are Library and History. Is there something that I'm missing, or doing wrong, that would make the navigation work better? Or is this a bug that might be unique to my phone type?

Ihave the same question. How do you navigate? Yhe only way I can find is to flip through the book one page at a time. That is okay for a novel but for a bible, you often want to go to a specific book, chapter and verse.

Was lost too but found that with a single tap a in book the ability to navigate appears.

Bruce, that is great - Thanks. That makes it more useable now. Yet, it would be great if that was accessible through the Options (Menu) key on the phone, or even the Search key on the phone.

Agreed. That is where I looked for it. Perhaps on the web page that shows current features it could include "With a single tap..."

I struggled to find how to enter the verse picker everyone was talking about and found the single tap by accident.
In part of the ESV with a lot of cross references it took a while to find an area of the screen empty enough for the tap to bring up the verse picker rather than a list of cross references.

Does anyone know if they have released a users guide? That would help out a LOT!

It appears they are attempting to stay consistent with e-Reader GUIs, where possible. Some of these GUI mis-targeting issues also apply to other e-Readers (Nook, Adobe, etc come to mind).
