Logos Beta for Android wish-list

Apart from trouble downloading some books (gave up on maps) the program is shaping up well.
I prefer scrolling text for Bible reading (as you can quickly adjust the verses you want to see on screen) rather than flipping back and forth to find text.
While 'history' is good, a 'favourites' button would help find my 'most used books'.
A split screen to open a Bible and a Commentary would also help, with search functions for text within the books (Perhaps it's there, but I haven't found it?).
Also I imagine a 'settings' option will be somewhere in the pipeline?

Looking forward to the full product.

I, too, think a favorites option would be good.  My Olive Tree software has split screen option, but since downloading the Logos beta I find myself choosing Logos when the resource I want is in it.

I downloaded Logos 4 on my HTC Incredible and have not been able to search within a book. I read a few other posts where users were discussing issues with searching, so I do think the option is there. I just haven't, so far, been able to use it.

    Hi Timothy

Search isn't there it - I think people are referring to the passage locator

For my purposes word search within a Bible especially is ESSENTIAL.  I use my Galaxy bible for talking to people away from the office mostly and being able to quickly find a bible passage is necessary.  Let me add that unlike YouVersion, the results MUST come up in biblical order.  (My two bits worth)

Patrick, You make a good point. So far, Logos is good for merely reading through a book unless it has some references to jump around with. I prefer using Olive Tree if I need to do searches or lots of switching around.

Hopefully, Logos will get this working closer to the way it works on my laptop. Then it would become my preferred tool except for serious study in my office.

At first I couldn't find the Bible passage locator, but then discovered it by pressing the top of the screen - just for anyone else who may be looking for it.

Woo. Thanks for pointing that out, John. I was about to come on here and ask where the Table of Contents was, but your tip pointed the way.

With that done, the one thing I could really use is the ability to collapse my library like I do on the computer. That way if I don't want to scroll past every issue of BibSac, I can do so without having to type something, e.g. Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society. Over all, though, this app will definitely help when I'm away from my computer.

A Search feature is planned, as are Favorites ("bookmarks"), Settings, and Split Screen.

    Hi David,

Sorry if I've overlooked this in other forums, but what about text scrolling?  While the page by page view seems similar to a book, much of what I like about reading on my droid is not wasting time turning pages and just scrolling down through a document.

Also, with the split screen, do you foresee the ability to have flexible split screens like the logos engines where I could plant a study bible below a bible and have a commentary and/or second/third translation off to the side?

I ask these things because I love Logos 4 for PC so much and want to buy a tablet, but am wondering if my best option would be an android tablet once logos releases a non-beta version...

    Thanks,

    Derek

I agree that scrolling is the preferable navigation to flipping.  Problem with OliveTree is that its frame rate is terribly slow - almost unusable.

One of my favorite Logos features is missing, though... (really easy in Ver. 3 Win)  That is, flipping quickly between versions at the same passage.  Perhaps a "favorites" set of bible versions would help with this.

I have a 30 second off time for my screen. I would love to have an in app option to keep the screen on while the app is in use. It would be nice to have a notes function.

A lights out option would be nice like the one in youversion. It makes the background black and the font color white for better low light on no light reading.

This is currently available in the iPad app, I assume (but don't know definitely) that it will come to the Android app at some stage

Yes, the Android app will have the same white / sepia / black themes currently available on our iOS app.

    * I want to be able to scroll through my library properly, with a button I can hold and scroll up and down with

    * I want to be able to type in a letter and display all works beginning with that letter.

    * I want to be able to copy/paste text into Word apps, with footnotes embedded.

    * I want favourites and bookmarks

    * I want to be able to select multiple resources and download them all; at present it is simply not practical to download journals (who wants to select 50-100 individual items and download them one by one?)

    * I want to be able to change text size and spacing (right now the lines need more space between them)

I have recently acquired an Asus Transformer with keyboard and have been using the beta for a couple of days.  Overall it seems to be working very well.

Things I would put on a wish list are:

Linking of resources, i.e. jump to reference, when off line.  I use my tablet in many places where wifi is not available at present.

    Download multiple resources.

Increase text size, eyesight not so great as one gets older!  Preferably using the tablet pinch method but settings acceptable.

These in addition to already planned improvements.

In the meantime thank you for another very useful resource and keep up the good work

    Hi David

This does seem to work at the moment - although as per http://community.logos.com/forums/t/35647.aspx - there are some issues with the selection of resources to which links point!

Where you looking for something different?

    Morning Graham,

I should have been more explicit.

When oline the link between say a bible and strongs dictionary by clicking on the number (I can use "The Interlinar by Newberry") works perfectly and clicking on the "jump to reference" also works perfectly.  However neither work when offline even although I have downloaded the necessary resources to my Transformer.

    Hope this clarifies.

Yes I understand what you mean now.

Certainly would be nice if this worked

I have been using youversion also, waiting for this to come out.  I find myself preferring the lights out option even in bright light.  Youversion also has a sweet option.  It will read the bible text to you.  It's great while driving.  The one option I am hoping for is have a menu bar at the top for different options to scroll through sideways and have the options linked to the scripture that I am reading.  For example have text comparisons and commentaries.  And make it so I can choose which ones I prefer.  The youversion app is pretty sweet.  I hope this will beat it.

    I would like:

    - to resize text and have a 2 page reading layout option (like Nook).  On my Adam Tablet having the 2 page option in Nook is great.

    - to organize my collection onto shelves or in folders.

Overall, I am enjoying Logos.  Currently only using YouVersion Bible for the reading plan.  This would be a nice addition to Logos also.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Love the Android beta...been waiting anxiously for it.

    Would love to see the following;

    1. Adjustable text size
    2. scrolling instead of swiping
    3. Swipe to carousel through bibles/commentaries/dictionaries etc
    4. Split screen option that allows for 3 columns (I have Asus Transformer)

    Keep up the great work!

First of all, sorry for posting this as a reply. I cant figure out how to post from my Droid. I'd love to see scrollable text and text to speech settings. One thing I would love to see that I haven't seen anyone mention yet is the ability to shortcut to specific books on the homescreens. I have only ever seen one app do it, aldiko, but i would really love to be able to direct shortcut to my favorite devotional orBible much like you can shortcut to bookmarks from the browser.

I'm still waiting for all the functions in the iOS version to be in Android - namely ability to do Word/passage study and searches. At this stage, there's hardly any difference from Vyrso (android version).
