Importing Free E-books

Is there a way to import free e-books in my Logos 4 library? For instance, many of John Piper's books can be downloaded for free in a PDF fromat for personal use via desiringgod.org. It would be great to be able to view those via logos (especially on mobile devices) and to search those in logos. I have seen talk about a personal book application coming that can import. Will that application allowing me to do this?

That cannot be done in L4. PBB is in Beta right now and currently the only format they can be compiled from is .docx so .pdf's will not work. I don't know if there are any converters that would convert the .pdf' to .docx but that may be an option to look into. I would not spend a lot of time on that until the pbb feature is released. We have been told that anything compiled during testing will expire once the feature comes out of beta.

There are a few options with the PDF. You can try to use the Adobe Acrobat software, another good one is Nitro. Nitro has also an online way to covert PDF to doc or rtf and than you can use MS Word for getting it to docx. Nitro cloud converter is free. The other two are not. You can try them however and experiment with them. It worked well for me.

In my opinion, this is the only major weakness of this program. The inability to incorporate resources - especially specific journal articles - is a serious limit to Logos' usefulness as a research tool.

...well that and the deficiencies of the Mac version of Logos.

Well that and a better way to store your research and access it later, but for many poor folks being able to add books into the system would make Logos 4 much more useful.

While it might take a little bit of work, there is a website that allows you to change pdf into word. It's actually at http://www.pdftoword.com/. You can upload a pdf file and they transform it into a word document. Using L4, you could add this to your library as a resource. If you are talking maybe 2 or 3 books, this might be the way to do it. If you are looking at many more you would need the time to do it. Just a reaction from a new user.
