Logos 4 Indexing freezes Windows XP

Logos 4 indexing keeps freezing my computer (windows xp); and requires a reboot.

I've deleted the files in the folders: LibraryIndex, BibleIndex in case they had become corrupted but it still freezes.
(I had read somewhere when doing a google search to try that.)

I don't know what to do about this.

If more information is needed, please be patient with me; I don't know my way around files and logs very well.

Please tell us about your computer: are you running XP Service Pack 3? How much RAM do you have? How large is your hard drive? How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

I'm not sure if I ran the java script to permanently upload logging properly.
When I double-clicked the file it opened dreamweaver; I change it to "Open with exploreer." I really don't know how to run the js file. And tried... but I don't know...

I am running Windows XP
Service Pack 3
Ram: 512 MB
Harddrive Total Size: 232 GB
Harddrive Free Space: 17.9 GB

I have not been able to index; I just installed Logos 4 a few days ago.

My laptop has been able to sychronize and index; but my PC won't.
Can I copy index files from my laptop?

You do not meet the minimum specs for Logos 4 on this computer. You need at least 1 GB of RAM. Without meeting these minimum specs we'd have to conclude that is your problem. See: http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq

Yes, you may have to open the .js script using MS Explorer. I think the point is moot, however, as your computer does not have enough memory to run Logos 4.

BTW: those minimum specs. are barely enough to run Logos.

I'm sorry that you got that response. Logos will gladly refund you your money. Just call Customer Support and explain.

If you can upgrade that computer, RAM is not too expensive. You'd want 4 GB which is all a 32-bit operating system can use. However your HD space is getting tight for Logos 4 as well, so it might be better to wait for Logos until you can purchase a new system.

Logos 3/Libronix will work fine on your system, but I know that's not what you want.

Well...

I really like Logos; I use it every day--throughout the day... and I'm sold on how Logos 4 stays in sync with what I am sudying.

... I don't know about 4 gig; I think my mother board is maxed at 1 gig. But I've ordered enough ram to bring my computer up to a little over 1 gig.

I'll come back if I'm still having problems...

... and I'll free up my hard drive.

Can you tell if I'm uploading reports to logos automatically?

Reports can be uploaded here by using the paperclip icon on the compose message page. It is usually best to zip together all the Logos log files that are in the My Documents\Logos Log Files folder and upload them as one file. Diagnostic logging does not automatically send reports to Logos.

I hope the 1 GB+ of RAM will work for you. Logos is a real test for many computers. Indexing can overheat processors and strain your computer as nothing else you've probably used before.

Some people run Logos on a netbook, so I assume you can get Logos to run once you meet the minimum requirement. It just may be slow and take a long time to index.

What you'll need to do is use the instructions found here: http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers and use Method 1 or Method 2.

The problem will be subsequent indexing. I'd recommend you turn off automatic update downloading by going to Tools>Program Settings and select No to Automatically Download Updates.
