Disappointed....

I am a new users of Logos (month or so). I am disappointed that it appears that the books included are NOT the complete books. Illustrations/pictures seem to be missing, at least in one case I noticed today.

Case and point, the book "The Bible Guide" does not have the pictures/illustrations. Page 10, talks about the southern kingdome of Judah. In the printed book page 10 also starts a nice timeline that is not present in the Logos version. Also the beginning on that chapter "What is the Bible" has a nice graphic in the printed book that is nonexistent on the Logos version.

I have seen pictures/illustrations in other Logos books but now that I see them missing in the above book it calls into question what other books have I bought in my package that are not the complete book?

Am I the only one who has ran into this and/or finds this disturbing?

At first reading I wondered if your download was still indexing. But when I inspected The Bible Guide in my library I find the same results you describe. I do not have the hardcopy version of the book to compare with so I never missed the graphics.

No. I (& others) find it disturbing too. The Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament appears to be missing some "plates" (graphics of maps.) I know of one resource that is missing graphics for copyright reasons - Christian History & Biography Magazine. While it is remotely possible The Bible Guide is also a copyright issue we know for sure it is not the case with the K&D OT Commentary. Disturbing indeed.

Welcome to the forum Stephen, and I hope you are able to benefit from the investment you made in purchasing Logos Bible software.

I am not an employee of the company, just an excited user like yourself.

Sometimes omissions may be the fault of Logos, if you point them out, they will eventually get corrected. Other times they are the fault of the publisher, who coded and tagged the books themselves, when Logos lisenced their software for that purpose. I do not have the resource in my library, and cannot find it on the website, to assist any further.

That should not be the case with K & D since that is so old that it not only has whiskers, but the whiskers are GRAY. It could be true of some other resources, but I don't think it is here.

Can't say for sure but some publishers have had trouble getting permission to use the images in their books in an e-edition. IIRC Logos has already mentioned that in connection with some other books. The compensation (at least partial) is that we have Timelines and maps in Logos that could help us when something like this comes up.

Perhaps someone from Logos can tell us what the issue is in this book. I think it would be fair to mention in a product's details on the Logos web site how the Logos edition may differ from the print versions.

In nearly every case, missing images/pictures/graphics/graphs/charts/etc., are the result of copyright issues. Many publishers who include images in their books do so with only a print edition in mind, and as such, they secure only those permissions. When Logos licenses the same book from the publisher and produces a digital edition of that book, the publisher often times is unable to get digital rights to the non-text elements, and cannot extend those rights to us. We still want to produce the book because most of the time, the text is the critical part that needs to be searched, not the images. So, we proceed but exclude the elements we could not license.

In the future, we will do a better job informing customers of any copyright issues that eliminate images from digital editions of books we re-publish.

If you double check, you will see that I was responding to the original post, which was about "The Bible Guide." You are right, however, K & D is indeed OLD (dead tree copies have been known to be a good source of penicillin).

I would like that very much. If we are going to be paying what in many cases is a higher price for Logos editions, then its only fair to the customer that we are made aware of books that do not reflect the print editions BEFORE they are purchased.

I would suggest that this be done for all previously published books too, and not just new ones. I was unaware of this issue until now, and I certainly hope there or no missing images from recent books I have purchased that are image-dependent.

I remember a previous instance when Logos noted that (some of ?) the images were not included, but I'm afraid I don't recall the resource. It may have been

Thanks, I look forward to hearing what you find. As for the issue potentially being copyright, I do not know much about that but I do think that since we are paying top dollar we should know what is a full version and what is not. Some books are for the most part worthless unless they have the illustrations etc.
