Hi, Logos has stopped taking layout snapshots, I used these a lot and would like to get it working again.
Any ideas? Is this a bug in the new version 4.2b?
Is this a bug in the new version 4.2b?
Not on my machine. One was created after I woke it up this morning. Others were daily or skipped a few days; the frequency seems to depend on changes made or restarting/waking L4.
Thanks Dave... so if it's not a bug, how can I get some help to fix the problem? Each time I clicked on the Layout button I got a snapshot, but now I am getting nothing. I am sure it stopped after the latest update.
I use this feature a lot to keep track of what I have been doing and to get back to where I was. I really need some help to get it working again.
A Now snapshot is available when you open the Layouts menu - so this is not happening for you?
Start L4 with CTRL key held and this should enable logging (or start permanent logging). Open the Layouts menu two or three times with at least 1 minute between each and then upload logos4.log before you restart L4.

You do know about the normal way of saving a layout, right?

OK, I have uploaded the log and this is an explanation of what happened after opening with logging:
Logos was already opened on my PC so I first closed down Logos at 20:39. This saved a snapshot of the open books.
I re-opened Logos and opened a Bible then took a snapshot by opening the Layouts menu at 20:43. I could see a “Now” snapshot and I could see that it had saved the snapshot at 20:39.
I opened the passage guide at 20:44 and took another snapshot. I could not see the snapshot from 20:43
I changed the layout again at 20:49 and opened the layouts menu. I could not see either the 20:43 or 20:44 layouts.
Each time I opened the Layouts menu, I could see a “Now” snapshot, but none of them were saved – apart from the one at 20:39 when I closed Logos 4
I closed Logos at 20:55
This is not how Logos used to behave... It used to save a snapshot every time I opened the Layouts menu.
I can reproduce this behaviour and your log confirms the "Now" screenshot times + the snapshot taken on Exit at 20:55. If the behaviour has changed then it seems it is being more efficient about saving the "Now" screenshots as actual snapshots; which means you may have to name more "Now" screenshots.
Thanks again Dave for your time... So what you are telling me is that the Logos 4 interface has changed and now it is not supposed to save a snapshot each time the Layouts menu is opened? There is no way that I can get Logos to save like it used to? I will be very disappointed if that is the case... I don't understand why saving the snapshots was a problem.
Naming snapshot's each time is, to be quite honest, a real nuisance!! Can I request that they go back to saving the snapshot's, or at least allowing the option to choose to have Logos save them?

I used the word "If" because I don't know anything has changed; I cannot find it in any recent Release Notes. It would be beneficial to have Logos comment on this so that we can understand the strategy, but you can always go to Uservoice with a feature request.
Thanks Dave. I have raised the issue on uservoice. I hope that someone from Logos can help - I have spent a lot of money on Logos and I love the app, but apart from your help, which I really appreciate, technical support does seem to be lacking. Hopefully they will prove me wrong!!
We're looking into the snapshot issue.
In the meantime, you may want to look at the History panel under Tools to see if that might help you.

Hi Tonya,
I have not heard anything further about this and it really is hampering my use of Logos 4...
Can you give me any news?
Hi Michael,
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that previously, every time you opened the Layouts menu, it would "take a snapshot" and save it permanently in the list of unnamed layouts, even if you didn't give it a name. That is, the current layout would be shown as "Now" and whenever you opened the Layouts menu again, that "Now" snapshot would be shown earlier in the list (usually under "Today"), one screenshot for each time you had opened the Layouts menu. Is that correct?
To the best of my knowledge, the Layouts menu has never been designed to work this way; it's primarily intended to allow access to previously, explicitly saved layouts, and to explicitly create new ones. Permanently saving an unnamed new snapshot every time the menu is opened hasn't been part of any specifications I've seen for the feature.
It's possible that it did work that way in earlier versions and has changed accidentally, but (as far as I know) this wasn't a deliberate change in the design of the feature. It might help us figure out exactly what changed if you can tell us which version you upgraded from. Did you upgrade from v4.2a to 4.2b, or from an earlier version?
Are you sure Bradley? I just tried it (if I understand you). It takes a snapshot each layout menu opening; it typically dumps them fairly quickly if I don't name them. But it does provide a very recent history (which I use to recover from).
