Just One Book?
I want to be able to read the New Jerusalem Bible on my iPad 2. I don't want the whole gamut of research and study packages. I see that the NJB is available from Logos for $40. I can't get my head around how I buy this one book for use on my iPad. I have downloaded the Logos app on my iPad, but can't figure out how to add a purchased book like the NJB to the library. Would appreciate some elementary guidance on the steps to take. Thanks.

I believe it works like this currently. The availability of your library on a mobile device is a service to those who have purchased base packages. It might also work if you even just make the minimum crossgrade for $70. Other than this you won't be able to see your books on any mobile device.

Welcome to the Logos Forums! First, I am unsure how to interpret "users of Logos Bible Software 4 base packages" in the Logos App description on iTunes. Paul interprets this to mean that only those who have a base package can gain access to their library. However, on the iPhone Support FAQ, it says that a benefit for "registered users" is "access to your library collection." I would understand this to mean that you can purchase a single book, and since it would be in your "library," you would be able to access it (as long as it is available on portable devices).
To answer your question in the most general way - To purchase a resource (book) for the iPad Logos App:
1) Create or Log in to your Logos Account via a web browser (this is easier on your computer)
2) Find and add the resource to your "cart"
3) Follow the check out procedure. The resource is available almost instantly.
Note: Logos does not sell "iPad only resources" - the resources are primarily designed for the Logos 4 program. Logos does, however, work hard with publishers to make these resources available to us through Biblia.com and the iOS/Android apps.
My suggestion to you is to call Logos to verify that what you want to do can be done. Please let us know what you find out!

When you say 'the resource is available almost instantly', what does that mean? I assume it will have been downloaded in some form or format to my computer, so what kind of file would it be? Is it only in a format that has to be used with the Logos software, or is it a PDF or other file, do you know? I already have a version of the NJB on my computer per se, which is bundled with an older CD package called the Ellis Bible Library (from circa 2003), so I do not need another copy of the NJB just on my computer unless it is in form that I can copy or port over to my iPad. I will try to contact Logos as you suggest, but perhaps someone knows about the form of the download.

It is downloaded in Logos' proprietary format into the Logos 4 software by Logos 4 software

Logos is a company whose primary focus is Bible Study Software. One of the strengths of the software is its search capabilities and its resource's interconnectivity. For example, when you are reading in a book and it references a passage of scripture, that reference becomes hyperlinked to that passage in your prioritized version of the bible. What is great is that many other resources are hyperlinked as well (church fathers, for example).
To answer your question as best as I can, you are purchasing the resource (in your case the NJB) in a proprietary format for the Logos 4 software (which works on both Mac & PC). This is what you are actually purchasing - the resource which can be used in Logos 4 (the shell is free to download). Logos, as a service to its customers, makes as many of your resources as possible available on both Biblia.com & its mobile apps (i.e. the iPad app). Once you own the resource, it is Logos's view that you should be able to access this on any device YOU own (the resource is tied to the owner, not the device). While this is Logos's view, not all publishers agree. Many (if not most) resources ARE available on the mobile apps. Once you own the resource, you can access it and/or download it to the iPad. This is not done through the computer, but is all done in app. You do not "copy" or "port" it over. As I said, it is available instantly.

Noticed http://www.logos.com/product/315/the-new-jerusalem-bible is available for iPad; also noticed licensing restriction: can only be sold to Logos customers whose billing address is in Canada or United States.

Ok, I have the Logos app on my iPad. The Accounts page shows me as being signed in. However, I see no reference to a resource license or a way to get such a license. I have also downloaded the Logos 4 software on my PC and do not see anything about a resource license there either. So, how do I get the 'resource license' so as to move forward? Also, I see no way to purchase anything from the iPad app per se. So, I am still trying to figure out how, if I buy the NJB, I can get to read it on my iPad. Thanks again.

John, go to biblia.com, signin in, and see if you can access it. If you can, then you should be able to download it on your phone. Don't have an Iphone, so I cannot help any further.

A "resource license" just means that you have purchased a resource through Logos (i.e. they have licensed you the resource). To purchase (or license) a resource, go to the Logos.com website & navigate to the resource you want to purchase. Click on "add to cart." From there you will follow the prompts to complete the purchase. Once you have done this, the resource will be available to you in both Logos 4 & the iPad app. Note: You will need to restart Logos for the resource to download.
On your iPad, the resource will be available in your Library. The normal state is for the book to be read from off the Logos servers, but you can also download the book to your iPad if you choose (so that you can access it when you don't have an internet connection.)

Since your line of questioning has been about "getting the resource onto the iPad," I thought I would give you a couple of screen shots. The first screen shot shows my library. You will notice that I have 1390 resources available to me on my iPad (compared to 1620 on my computer - not all publishers allow us to access our resources in both ways). The only book visible on the screen shot which has been downloaded is the one with the airplane icon (131 Christians Everyone Should Know). The rest of the books are available to me as long as I have an internet connection.
The second screen shot shows how to download a resource to the iPad. This is what is meant when someone says it is done "in app." You do not ever connect the iPad to your computer to add books. To download a resource for offline reading, click on the "Book Info" icon (gray circle with italicized "i") and switch the "available offline" tab from "off" to "on." The book downloads within a matter of seconds "behind the scenes."

Thanks to all for your good help replying to my request. I have now purchased the NJB resource and it is now available to read offline on my iPad 2. Appreciate your patience with my questions. As far as I can tell, this NJB from Logos is the only electronic version available anywhere on the internet for download. Appreciate it!
