I am going to venture a guess and say a database of HD Greek Manuscripts. Cliff I think you got it. In light of this: http://indrasinha.com/2010/09/27/precious-greek-manuscripts-now-readable-online-thanks-to-the-british-library/ & the fact other venues of free access to this database are appearing around the world, it makes sense Logos would tap into this collection. But whatever it is, I like the differing ideas everyone has suggested.

The quickest & easiest release of 3000 scholarly works would be free access to half of the SeminaryLibrary.com collection and a subscription offer to the rest.
I would love access to this library, but Logos doesn't carry it any longer and I don't know if they ever did. However, I could use this for my Seminary studies. It would be great if this was the deal.
If you are correct Logos needs to do some serious updating of several web pages.
http://www.logos.com/websites and http://www.seminarylibrary.com/media/tour/SeminaryLibrary.html are both quite functional.
The SeminaryLibrary would be awesome, but the number of 3,000+ makes me think of HD Greek Manuscripts. Both are pretty cool.
The PBB database has already been announced as something that will be coming. But, if it is released for free, that would be so incredible that I would need to consider coveting a virtue. Looking forward to knowing more!

Given the timing, I suspect my Vyrso guess is correct. I'd much rather have it be resources for Logos 4 but ...
But the Vyrso guess doesn't fit the response to the Loeb guesses. He said "so close!" to both.

As Doris Day sang "Que Sera, sera." We'll find out soon enough.
And that doesn't seem exactly "free", as well as the fact that I don't understand why they would have to throttle bandwidth for it.
If they're estimating throttling bandwidth, in a first come first serve basis... I'm estimating this is going to be something heavy... but I don't know what it is either.
It also would not blow scholars' minds.
I agree with all the reasons people think it's not Vyrso related except that I can see Vyrso having some free offerings. I'm just saying that we are getting into the time period in which we should expect the Vyrso store to show up "for real".
I think it is the PBBs as well!...wouldn't that be awesome to have all those...and still free!!!! Yahoo!
This would surprise me because they would not do that without contacting the individuals who "own" the formatting of the PBB's. There has been not indication that they have made such contacts.
But there has been much communication between Logos and Thomas Black...so, who knows! Besides, it is only speculation.
If you want the answer just google "manuscripts 7.5 GB." That fits all the clues: make scholars happy, take up a ton of bandwidth, be provided free of charge to anyone with a package and HD manuscripts was already mentioned.
Is tonight the night? Should we stay up all night again, Dan? ;-)

True, but Thomas isn't the creator of the PBB's - he's the stasher ... he'll love that description.[8-|]
Hmmm.. "Some from time to time" is not "much" Sorry Charlene - I'm not holding any secrets on this one. :-)

I am simply the stasher and I do love the description! Oh Thank you Martha!

Bummer! I was really counting on you, Thomas![:)]

Hey Stasher,
Maybe you ought to consider selling all those PBBs to Logos or offering subscriptions to downloads from your website. [:D]
(Wow, Talk about missed opportunities) You could be jetting down to the Bahamas by now.

Hey Thomas, lets collaborate on the time, and I will pick you up at the airport.

What an excellent idea! Actually I do stop over briefly at Nassau on the way to Haiti most years - but it's usually just enough time for the pilot to refuel and off we go again. Tell you what, as soon as I get my fall Itinerary set up I'll see if I can arrange to buy you lunch. That would be stupendous!
Sounds like a plan. lynden_williams at the mail that is hot
Consider these facts:
And these probabilities:
How is this for an imaginative construct?:
Logos kicks off the Vyrso store by offering 3248 Greek manuscripts and papyri housed here:
available for free, underwritten by The Stavros Niarchos Foundation, digitized by the British Library, organized by The Society of Biblical Literature, and hosted by Logos. Sound too far-fetched?
My second (and most serious) guess:
I'm placing my bet on a set from the Society for Biblical Literature as Logos already has a relationship with them and they offer many items free on the net. [See the web resources reading list if you doubt me][8-|]
But with your picture, I want a plane ticket and library privileges.

Careful MJ, as you probably know books can be addictive. You could become an old lady bent over and end up glued to the chair, just from reading.

The details are a bit wild, but it is imaginative but would interest the scholars.
How do we recreate the obvious benefits of the ambiance, however?
7.5 GB
Logos 4 updates are mandatory, from the "Cloud". Even if it's free, we'll have to upgrade HDDs first.

Just to clarift, as I understand it, these are free resources - we can order them or not just like other free resources.
we can order them or not just like other free resources
True.
Sorry, I lost my logic while thinking about 3000+ free resources.
Just grab any cool image of the Bodleian Library and make it your desktop background.
Brew some fresh ground Starbucks.
Put on some Chopin (low volume)
Take off your shoes & prop your feet up on the dog.
Don't need to light the pipe, just hold it in your teeth.
& don't forget your Greek fisherman's cap.
Here are Dan's latest twitter posts with regard to it:
"If you've been following this thread: http://bit.ly/ptkyV8 & want to know what the secret is, @ reply to me. Just don't post it on the web!"
"We'll post it as a free Pre-Pub & ship it in the order that the free orders were placed. It should be on Pre-Pub in about a week."
Sounds like we have another week to wait. I'm going to be pretty tired after staying up all night for over a week!

Most definitely Bach.
I'm one of the Seven Dwarves so I'm sure I won't (Sleepy).
So do I have to wait until this hits the prepub page before I can order it?
I keep getting more details on this massive project, and I can tell you I am getting more and more excited about it all the time.
I spoke with the lead developer on the project today and let's just say he is "really" excited about it. It is starting to look really good. We have to be careful with this project, because we have already put a lot of time and money into it, and will keep putting even more time and money into it, and since we are giving it away for free... you do the math. [:^)]
There are some really cool things we can do with this collection. Some of them are already in the first pass, but depending on the interest level, how many people actually want this collection, and how important these enhancements are for our customers, we can keep making it even better.
Sometime in the next week or so we will post a Pre-Pub page for the collection, blog about it and start telling the world. Even though it is free, you will still need to jump on the Pre-Pub page and place a zero dollar order for it right away. When it is ready to ship it will be rolled out like many other Pre-Pub titles that have large order volume—in batches (first come first served), in order to not overtax our systems.
Once you have your place in line, you'll want to spread the word far and wide. Of course, you are under no obligation to do so, in fact there are no contests or hoops to jump through to get it at all. We don't even ask for tweets or Facebook posts in order to get in line. [:)] No strings attached at all. ...however, we'd love to see if the good news of such a substantial freebie could spread far and wide on blogs and social networking sites as much as possible. The more interest we see in the collection, the more we will be motivated to throw more time and money at making it better!
So, get some rest, I'm sure you are all subscribed to the blog email list right? You'll get an email when the announcement goes live on the blog.
Stay tuned!
[:D]
I am looking forward to this coming out. [:D]
Ok Dan you are on. I will start with my school www.ncu.edu.jm and www.andrews.edu/seminary. Lets see what happens from there.Oh yes, facebook, how can I forget.
Dan,
You do know how to build the tension. Now if it is all in Coptic, there will be a sudden surge of deflation on my part.

Would you like a pin? [:)]
Would you like a pin?
George, if there is anyone who'd welcome 3000 texts in Coptic it would have to be you. But only you.

Peace and Joy to all! *smile*
Don't be too sure. I suspect that David Knoll would like them too.
If pre-pub was posted many hours before blog article, could be interesting to see how many orders are placed before and after blog article (especially by forum users that now know to watch newest pre-pubs (with baited breath) => http://www.logos.com/products/search?Status=Pre-Pub&start=&sort=newest&pageSize=15
Keep Smiling [:)]
Oooooh. Dan DM'd me on twitter. But I can't tell. This is gonna be cool.
Original (and/or "dead") languages or English? :-)
Definitely human languages used within written human history - I doubt it includes Nestorian Chinese or Sogdian.
So, get some rest, I'm sure you are all subscribed to the blog email list right? You'll get an email when the announcement goes live on the blog. Stay tuned!
I will be impatiently waiting in the study.
The rest of you, please contain your enthusiasm.
I think whoever guessed correctly should be first in line! Now Thomas if you could tell us who that is we would be much obliged
I can neither confirm nor deny the language, format, type, number or status of the collection.
But I can almost guarantee that someone is going to be happy. More than likely, several someones.

So not me, it seems
I asked too, but have not received the DM yet.
