using Libronix books in Logos 4
I was given a free copy of David Jeremiah. It is in Libronix Digital Library System 3.0e format. I know that I imported Libronix books into Logos 4 when I first installed it, but now can't figure out how to get these books into it so I don't have to use the Libronix DLS program also. Can any one tell me where the command is hidden?

You have two basic options (assuming you don't want to use Libronix at all):
One: call customer service and have them help you add the collection to your license. In that case, it should download to L4, without having to install Libronix.
Two: Install into Libronix (see below for further instructions) update your licenses within Libronix using the same user ID you use in Logos4 (usually the email address you used when you first purchased something from Logos), and then wait for your licenses to sync. Your resources should download to Logos 4 after a short while (after the license updates are registered with Logos and populated to their servers). NOTE: you'll have to type update now into the command bar, or restart Logos4 for it to find the new license and download the resources. Also, even if you do everything right, it could take an hour or more for Logos4 to see your new licenses.
Instructions for installing Libronix.
- Install Libronix 3.0g directly from the Logos web site: http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls
- Check out this thread for a patch to make Libronix compatible with IE9: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/30926.aspx
- Insert your CD into the drive and follow the prompts to activate the resource (no need to copy to the HD, if you don't want to use Libronix).
- Restart Libronix when prompted.
Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, or if this doesn't work for some reason, post a follow-up question here.

This didn't work because there is no such thing as "Tools > Library Management >" in my program - When click Tools, I get LIBRARY with subtopics - collections, favorites, Highlighting, History, Reading Lists but no LIBRARY MANAGEMENT or Library subtopic Management??? So I went ahead and installed Libronix and the files. then I waited 6 hours and tried Update Now in the command line and it ran a minute and nothing.
I am liking this program less and less. It seems to draconian to do anything in it. How can you possible remember all the things that you can type in the command line??? A thing like adding some books that should be so simple should not be so well hidden in the program. Any ideas, or should I waste some money and call tech support to find out something that should have been easily findable.

Allen,
I'm sorry you're finding this to be so frustration. The CD you received was for an old version of the program, things have changed drastically since it was release, for the better I might add. However, the unfortunate side effect is that bringing these resources up to speed can be a bit involved. If you do not have Library Management in the Tools menu it's possible that you don't have the most recent version of Libronix. If you look at the Help>About menu what is the version number. If it is not 3.0g then you don't have the latest. Update Libronix here: http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls If I've diagnosed your issue correctly then you should be able to sync licenses after the update and then Logos 4 should get them in.
Logos 4 does all of the library management automatically, it's a big improvement over version 3.
Finally, for Logos 4 to pick up new resource licenses from the cloud it requires a restart of the program.
One more thing, if you need/want to call Customer Service to have them activate it in Logos 4 without L3 involvement it's a free call in the US and outside of the US Skype can be used to place the call inexpensively.

Allen,
I was just reading my reply to you again in light of what you wrote and I think some background will help clear things up.
Version 3 was called Libronix. It was a highly manual program with lots of scripts to run to keep things up to date. The CD you picked up was based on this old tech. It had a red logo. Since the books were designed to be unlocked in Libronix that's why you needed to install it.
Version 4 automates all of these licenses with Logos' license servers any product you purchase from logos.com will go much more smoothly. Since Logos no longer sells its wares on CD (there are some 3rd party exceptions to this) it doesn't directly support adding licenses from older cds.
....hopefully I've cleared this up some rather than being more confusing

That should be Tools>Account management. I'll change the wiki later.
I'm sorry I didn't specify this. As I composed my response, I edited some things and left out that specific instruction. Sorry for the confusion.
EDIT: After clicking Tools>Account Management follow the prompts to sync your licenses.

Keep that up and you'll need to take the "Newbie" out of your name.
(I did not know this. Is this new to 3.0g?)

No. Account Management takes you through several steps in getting L3 up and running. Thereafter Library Management > Sync Licences is the preferred tool.

My Help says I am using "Logos Bible Software 4.2 SR-2 (4.20.4.88280)" That would seem to be well beyond 3.0g? And my drop down menu does not look anything like the one you showed. Something seems to be wrong here somewhere. Are we talking about the same program?? Have I got the interface set wrong some how? I think I turned off autoupdate/sync because it was downloading large amounts of things and I am on a limited download per day. It exceeded that several times and I saw no reason to sync. Any thoughts?

As I look more closely at your menus I think we are not talking about the same thing. You are showing menus that seem to be in LIbronix 3 - I am trying to get the books to show up and be usable in Logos 4.

Allen,
To get a CD resource into Logos 4 you have to install it into Libronix (L3) and then in Libronix sync licenses to Logos' license servers so that Logos 4 can then download the licenses from that server. That's why there are L3 screengrabs above, you need to do things in Libronix. All you should have to do in Logos 4 is restart it (and allow the download if it isn't set to automatically download updates).

That's because one of the ways to get your books into Logos 4 is to use Libronix/Logos 3. The Libronix menu screenshots shown in the previous posts show which menu options need to be run to synchronize your licenses with Logos' servers. Once that is done, your books will automatically download into Logos 4.
See Richard's post above for complete details. If the Libronix install option isn't for you, then I would recommend just calling customer support and they will update your licenses when you provide the CD key--it's painless.

Allen,
since you said
Allen Dearing said:So I went ahead and installed Libronix and the files.
it appeared to us as if you had, well, installed Libronix and the files - which is what the CD-ROM automatically tries to do if you just put it into the drive. From this point, it's just the synchronization of licences from your Libronix (L3) installation "up" to the Logos licence database server that is missing, since Logos 4 (L4) automatically synchronizes licences "down" to your L4 installation and downloads the resource files etc automatically.
Alternatively there is the call/mail to Customer Service, who will input your licence code into the database which will save you the installation of L3.

I did install Libronix and I did syncronize as shown. I think that the problem maybe that somewhere down the line I might have turned off Syncronize in Logos 4. I remember that it took over 30 hours to install and ran my internet connection crazy - overloading my 500 megs per day download limit on Hughesnet. It finally got installed and then seemed to constantly want to access the internet connection for something. I was at the time also adding extensive notes to it and I think it was uploading them also. It just seemed to be a pain at the time and I remember something about turning it off. Any thoughts on how to turn it back on?
Thanks for the help so far.

Set "Use Internet" to "Yes" in the Program Settings window (Tools->Program Settings).
http://wiki.logos.com/The_Internet
Since you have HughesNet, that's a setting you will probably want to remember. But it needs to be on to get new books and book updates.

I don't think the sync servers (which make copies of user documents etc.) are the same as the license server. If you read http://community.logos.com/forums/p/15929/121567.aspx#121567 JimT blocked sync.logos.com by misdirecting it in his hosts file and he was still able to buy books from logos.com with sync disabled.
Check your "Use Internet" Setting in Program Settings, is it set to "Yes'?
If you stopped sync by some other means (setting your firewall to block Logos etc.) it's probably interfering with this process.
Was the email address used by Libronix the same as the one you log into Logos 4? If not then that would explain the license not downloading. If this is the case you'd need to call Customer Service to straighten this out.

Both AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD UPDATES and USE INTERNET are set to NO. I do not have time right now to deal with it, but will check it out tomorrow. Hopefully that will get things working. I will try one at a time or do it between 2:00 and 6:00 AM (free download time for Hughesnet). I will let you know it that fixes it. Thanks again for the help.

FYI, changes to the Use Internet setting won't take effect until you restart Logos, but changes to Automatically Download Updates seem to take effect immediately (if Use Internet was already set to Yes).
First. if you set Use Internet to Yes, but leave Automatically Download Updates set to No. It will tell you when updates are available, but won't download them. (It may ask you--I'm not sure since I don't use that option). You can type "Update Now" in the command box to get updates in this mode. This mode will, however, also sync your settings and personal changes with Logos without restriction. If you haven't sync'd in a long time, you may have a bit of syncing to do when Use Internet is turned on again.
Secondly, if you set Use Internet to Yes and set Automatically Download Updates to Yes, you'll see a secondary option that should fit your needs without having to stay up late. You can specify a time frame that limits when updates are downloaded (this does not affect syncing, though). The default is Midnight to Midnight (which is all day), but you can limit it to any time frame, as below:

If USE INTERNET is on you say it will continue to sync. The question comes up as to how much data is syncing passing back and forth? If I can't control this, then I might easily over run my limit and be messed up for a day. Does the setting of time on AUTOMATIC DOWNLOAD UPDATES affect it also? Can I turn USE INTERNET off and use AUTMATIC DOWNLOAD UPDATE on and it still work?

No. "Use" must be on.
Allen Dearing said:Does the setting of time on AUTOMATIC DOWNLOAD UPDATES affect it also?
Sync and download are separate activities. Setting time does not affect the data downloaded.
Allen Dearing said:how much data is syncing passing back and forth?
Any changes to documents could be significant. Sync also occurs when you make changes in Panels/Tabs (Preferences). Avoid those and the only other activity would be periodic metadata or licence updates. Apart from document changes I doubt that sync activity would be more than 200 KB in 4 hours.
