I have identified two issues with the Logos Academic Training DVDs for PC.
The first issue is that when installing the DVDs to the hard drive, two of the video files cannot be installed because of errors - Cyclic Redundency Check errors - (CRC read errors). The installation program identifies the particular file and the error and offers you the options to: [Abort] [Retry] [Ignore]. I have retried a number of times and then clicked [Ignore] and then the process continues to completion. The two files which would not install are "04c_Finding_Resources.mp4" and "04d_Tagging_Resources.mp4".
I have gone to the media folder on the DVD and attempted to copy the two files from the DVD to the media folder on the PC using Windows Explorer and the files cannot be copied.
I contacted Customer Support and identified the problem to them and ultimately they sent me a second set of DVDs.
I uninstalled the first installation using the uninstall option from the Start Menu and then I installed the second set of DVDs. On this occasion, 4 files generated CRC - Cyclic Redundency Check errors. In addition to the first two which generated errors above were - "04a_Overview,mp4" and "04b_Spreadsheet_View_of_Resources.mp4". With the "04a_Overview,mp4" file, [Retry] was successful. With the other three files, I got NO JOY and I clicked [Ignore]. Then I went to the 2nd set 1st DVD and attempted to copy the files manually without success. I then went to the 1st DVD of the first set and was able to copy the "04b_Spreadsheet_View_of_Resources.mp4" file to the media folder on the hard drive. Both the "04a" and "04b" files play from the hard drive.
Whn attempting to play "04c_Finding_Resources.mp4" from either of the #1 DVD from either of the two DVD sets, the DVD plays for the first 5:49 of the 11:34. When attempting to play "04d_Tagging_Resources.mp4" from either of the #1 DVD from either of the two DVD sets, the video does not start and you can hear the DVD making searching noises and the video on the screen remains black.
I called Customer Support a second time and described all that had gone on before my 2nd call and the Customer Support person could not locate the files for the PC version but she did have the files "04c" and "04d" for the MAC version. Both PC and MAC versions use the mp4 format. She was able to copy "04c" and "04d" from her DVD for MAC to her hard drive and then write them to a CD. She tested them from the CD. She said they both played. She labeled the CD and has sent the CD in the mail to me. I should receive the CD in 3-4 days. I hope I can copy the two files from the CD. I expect that this will resolve the first of two issues with this product. I expect that other customers of this product for the PC will be having installation problems. I doubt that they are unique to me.
The second issue applies to all the video files (mp4) on both DVDs on both sets and to the video files installed on the hard drive. When the program starts up and a video is then selected from the menu, it plays in a "small pane" which in my estimation is 650 pixels wide by 370 pixels high. The video and audio play properly in the small pane. The resoulution I am running on my laptop screen is 1920 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. So the playing video is 10% of my screen size. The menu dialogue does not allow me to resize the window pane where the video plays. Maximizing the entire window maximizes the menu but does not change the size of the video pane. There is an icon in the video pane which allows the user to make the video full screen and the menu disappears. That in itself is great. However, in the full screen mode, the video is no longer in sync with the audio. There is a very noticable distracting lag in the video from the audio timing. Whatever there is in the menu dialogue that is handling the full screen display of the video is causing it to lag the audio. The full screen use of the video is necessary for this product to be useful. This is an issue that needs proper resoultion. I played the video's using Apple's free Quicktime player and the audio and video are in sync at 1/2, Normal, Double, and Full Screen sizes. Normal display in Quicktime has the video at 1280 x 720 pixels so the menu program actually has it scrunched down in that small pane. In my opinion, the problem is in the menu program. This issue is major. I don't care to be spending my hard earned money on defective product. Beside, Morris looks better when he helps us learn the truth in a very clear and concise manner using the best tools and resources. Please address this problem and post progress with this issue back to this thread.
Thanks for your help and continued support.
