For those who don't "do Twitter," you may not have any idea how often this will be a recurring issue.
That cuts both ways, though, doesn't it.
You may not have any idea how many of your customer base you're leaving behind.
I imagine you'll quickly tire of emailing all the news to everyone..with over 50K forum users and all...
Besides, I have some long overdue reports to get out.

Yes, but those who don't "do twitter" seem to have no problem with "doing nuisance" to their fellow forum members. If you don't want to "do twitter", you can "do ignorance" unless you can show a true need.

You may say he created an illusion, others would say that he was deliberately misleading, you can make a pretty good argument that this is a moral issue
I'm surprised I haven't heard more enthusiasm about the content of this freebie -- that is, from those "in the know." Is part of keeping it secret also keeping a lid on the enthusiasm? Just wonderin'.
I am still trying to figure out why I should be excited. I could see some wanting it - but am not sure why I might.
I will ask that question more directly after the publication is announced.

How about an alternative: Dan is super excited about some things Logos is putting together. He wants to tell the world but can't because customer service isn't yet ready for a flood of calls/questions while last minute details are being arranged. But since this really is a "first come, first served" thing, he decides a little pre-release buzz might help people get in the door as early as possible.
After he mentions that people might want to be on the look out, he decides that it can't hurt to let the news out in a slow trickle since, by virtue of the fact that users have gone through some rigmarole to get the news and understand it's not fully completed, people who know will understand it's not time to contact CS en masse.
So he then tells a user direct enough to ask for more details what's coming, and things go from there...
I don't think this whole thing has been a cold, calculating plan as some seem to imagine...rather, I think it's been a fun, evolving process between friends..and seriously, isn't this close of a relationship and this kind of good natured fun between customers and an EVP something rather unique today? I personally think it's pretty cool and something that could be a lot more enjoyable and refreshing than some people realize.
Stephen, I can only speak for myself, but I appreciate the fact that management, (especially at the Vice-president level) takes the time to communicate directly with its customers.
You could say wrapping a present in paper & ribbons is misleading because the recipient might imagine it is something other than it is. Dan never said users had to have a Twitter account to get the download. just to hear about it early. The exclusivity is more than an illusion. You miss out on cheap prices if you do not place a Community Pricing order or Pre-Pub orders in general. Sale coupon codes have expiration dates and even God closed the door of the ark. The Twitter proposal was just another attempt to be as inclusive as possible to all customers.
All I know is, free is a small price to "pay" for 3000+ resources and getting a Twitter account is n easy way to find out early.
You got it. I have several very specific reasons why this is a VERY good addition to my library. I just cannot list them without being very revealing of the secret.
It is my understanding this will be available freely to ALL for the foreseeable future. I can identify several different user groups that will welcome this release. I will talk more specifically to Floyd & others after it is public knowledge.

Based on what I have seen, it has great potential. Many books will need re-tagging after the release.

Hi George,
Not this one. [:)] I've refrained from asking...
I will look forward to it - thanks.
This is all about marketing buzz and it is being executed masterfully. I majored in marketing (advertising is only a small portion of marketing) prior to moving into ministry, and I'm actually impressed with the way Dan is very good at creating Buzz - as I noted earlier. If he announced something and left it at that, people would be buzzing. But he announced something and created the ILLUSION of exclusivity and the posts in this thread keep racking up. I know I hear people (not specifically you Scot) whine about targeted marketing from time to time and I just don't get it. It's not a moral issue. There are no unequal weights and measures here. Maybe it's because Marketing is my former field of study. Maybe I'm blind to the patently obvious, but I just don't get it. Thanks for the insight Thomas. Marketing tends to be a bit of a turn off for me, hence its 'beauty' usually lost on me ( - start talking about maximising profits or minimising costs given a set or resource restraints or how to make a budget balance, or make the inventory figures balance - then you see a glint in my eyes - we are all wired so differently - yet in so many ways so much the same because of whose image we are created. ) I'd rather just deal with the plain facts and figures. Cudos to Dan if he's achieved what he's looking to achieve.

Hi, Andrew , I am very gald to see you again in the forum, to your surprise we were rememebering you before some ours , with a brother who has appriciated you what you have done in the bata , I was sad that to miss you. I cannot forget the help you have provided me. May God bless you: I hope we will not miss you again. How is Australia this time is cold or hot?

They aren't doing it before release?

I was hoping they would do it all before releasing them.
But they have done it both ways in the past, you know.....[:O]
But they have done it both ways in the past, you know
I must have good taste in resources 'cause I've not run into the tagging not being done on release. There have been delays in upgrading tagging to match new system capabilities/requirements but ...
Just for the record: If you would like to subscribe to Logos on twitter and your Feed Reader doesn't support it (like mine), some googling reveals ways to find out any twitter account's RSS feed. (This is necessary because Twitter apparently redesigned their website and removed simple RSS access.)
There seem to be few methods to do this. One of them can be found here. Basically any twitter feed looks like this: http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/XXX.rss
The XXX represents the user ID. Which can be found out here.
The Logos feed URL is: http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/18030041.rss
Funny. I'd consider your response to be a nuisance well before I'd apply that label to the others. If you don't have anything non-grouchy to say maybe you should try "doing silence" for a change.
Not to be grouchy, but who are you responding to? [:)]
EDIT: Thanks for clarifying above.
Appropriate handle.

Admittedly, there are times that George posts something that vexes me and I let it slide to avoid escalating the unimportant, but I agree with him on this. While setting up a Twitter account just to receive this information is a nuisance, asking folks to send emails with the information because one doesn't want to go through the nuisance of creating a Twitter account is certainly a nuisance to those who have set up said nuisance account. Ok everyone. Lets get back on track. With this release, and the linking that Logos does, it will certainly keep them within the top 3 of the ladder when it comes to Bible software.
The top three?
it will certainly keep them within the top 3 of the ladder when it comes to Bible software
I thought it was already within the top 3. I would say it will be/remain number 1.
I agree. I was trying a little sarcasm. I just did a very poor job at it. [:$] I am sorry.

I think Lynden was being kind to the other two. You know, like the spectators at the Marathon who wait an hour after everyone has gone home for a straggler to cross the line.
I do appreciate the efforts of all who strive to make Bible study more accessible.

It may be true that he was being kind to the other two, but I would hesitate to knock the other two. Since I don't, and won't, use a MAC, I have no interest in the "L" word, and the program which is supposed to be faster doesn't offer the range of resources. What it amounts to it that Logos best meets my needs (besides, I don't find it that slow -- are some people running at hyperspeed that it seems slow to them?). One real criticism I would have of one of the programs is that it still doesn't use unicode. I believe it is supposed to be able to export to unicode, but that doesn't seem to work very well if the users of the program who said they were exporting to unicode did it properly. Being able to exchange information is a necessity so far as I'm concerned.
Hi all,
I have been taking a sabbatical from the forums for a few weeks, when there was some major disagreements about certain things. I am glad to see things are back to normal.
Anyhow, a lot of congregations in my denomination have very restrictive rules on use of the internet, a lot of them only allow use of email and some of us have filters. I have approval for viewing my Bible study web sites for research and only visit maybe three other web sites unrelated to Bible study.
So as you have probably deduced, social networks are out of bounds for me. I have none. Sure, I could find a way to do so, but I made a commitment to my fellowship and would feel uncomfortable in doing so.
So that is my excuse for not having Twitter or Facebook and any others that might exist out there. I know it sounds silly, but this is how it is. I must admit though, curiosity is getting to me. I understand that many are starting to get frustrated at such requests and I ask that you please disregard this post if you are, I would rather go another couple of days and find out over time than to be an inconvenience. However, if anyone would want to send me the information I would appreciate it. rick68 at vqme net(not com).
Thank you.
On its way. I consider your commitment to your church restrictions to be different from simply not wanting to take the trouble.
Rick, check your e-mail.
I need to learn how to send e-mails faster....
Thank you so much George and Daniel. I got your emails. I truly tried to hold out but the prospect of so many resources was killing me!
social networks are out of bounds for me
I think some folks prefer to put as little personal info on the internet as possible out of privacy and security concerns.

I am happy to see George has emailed you. I understand your situation completely. The Bible college my kids attend forbids internet access except in the library & "cafe" where the ISP has strict filtering in place. I think it is a good thing and wish it were more prevalent
Logos offers a resource that can be very helpful in dealing with moral failures (that the internet exposes us to):
Could someone email me on this too? I replied to Dans tweet but haven"t got a response yet. I'm at liamwalsh3 at gmail dot com. Thanks all!
The email is on the way Liam.
Awesome!! Thanks Tom!
Thanks for your words of encouragement Tes. At the moment it should be getting warmer soon, but still on the cold side in the mornings.

Super Tramp, thanks to you and all of the others for your understanding and the recommendations. I'll be looking at them in detail in a few hours. There is a Bible institute that I would love to attend but like the college your kids attend, there is no internet access allowed. Since I am working and live hundreds of miles away, this meas there are no online courses [:(]
Finally, Stephen Smith emailed me (not with an answer to the question of the sale) but to let me know that we can use the email feeds mentioned earlier in this thread without having to set up a Twitter account. I thought that you would have to at least have an account to get the threads emailed to you. Thank you Stephen, that is great customer service!
Edit: I feel that I need to reiterate that I am fairly confident that filling up Stephen's (or any other Logos employee's) inbox with requests for an answer will not do you any good. He only let me know about the Twitter emails as a courtesy.
George... I don't know what your trying to say in your ramblings. And, I am sure you don't either... otherwise you would have said it!
Think about it. It might come to you in your disconnectedness.
he said that even he was not privy to the info yet either
that is great customer service
I don't know how great the customer service was since I apparently didn't communicate too well. [:$] I meant to communicate that I don't know what details Dan has been sharing or how. But I do know what's about to hit Pre-Pub! [:D]

I agree. Helping those who cannot access Twitter is no nuisance.
BTW, I'm really looking forward to this release.

Ooops, my bad Stephen [:$]
I went back and read your email again and you communicated quite clearly.
Well, this finally pushed me over the edge to get a twitter account. [:)]
Not sure if this will make much difference, as I usually check the Logos blog every day or two.
(By the way, looking forward to using 4.3, by the way, which just released to us non-beta folks today!)

George,
I know you are a self appointed language expert, is disconnectedness even a word? [N]

Hold it right there and I'll check my interlinear. [;)]
MJD and George,
Would you two please take this somewhere else? It's a shame when such acrimony takes root...especially when it then spills over into other threads. It's not necessary, and I believe it's something the rest of the forum users would prefer doesn't characterize this community.
Thanks!
