Aside from dragging them onto the button bar to make buttons...

You could create a collection of timelines (defined using "type:timeline"), and then drag the collection window to the tool bar. Then that toolbar will the open the Collections window directly to that collection.

I tried that - but when I click on the button I just get an UNAMED COLLECTION [not the collection which I created with the timelines].

I forgot a step. I'm not sure why it's required, but it is:

With the Collection you want showing, drag the Collections window tab to the Favorites window. That will save it as a favorite.
THEN, drag the newly created Favorites item to the toolbar.
You can delete the Favorites item once you've created the toolbar item, if you desire.
