Personal Books

I am brand new to Logos 4 and so this may be an ignorant question. I have looked through the forums and the Wiki and can't seem to find the answer. Personal books intrigue me and seem to have many uses. However, I find a higher level explanation a missing element. Everything I have seen assumes you know what is meant by milestones, and what they do for example. Some things are fairly obvious, but the wiki briefly mentions 4 types of tags, but their meaning is still a bit mysterious to me. Maybe it is just my lack of familiarity with the product, not sure.

Is there a workflow somewhere that gives the steps to creating a document, including the strategey for each of these tags? That is the logic I'm missing somehow.

In large part, aside from what is written in the helpfile, the documentation like the Wiki is written primarily by us - and as you suggest we do tend to get used to the terms ourselves and forget to define them to make introduction better.

FWIW, Milestones take their name from the old practice of putting marked stones every mile so you can track your progress. That's the idea in PB as well.

For instance if you were going to create your own commentary, you would want a milestone to be used at each verse number in order to enable your resource to scroll with your Bible, or to enable searching. you can also use milestones for things like page numbers, etc.

I just looked at the wiki page again, which tags are you referring too. If you point them out, one of us will try to fill those portions out (Or once we help you figure it out, you can edit the wiki too!)

There are a few workflows around the forums but they are very generic and don't include the use of tags (milestones?) as a part of the explanation.

Milestones, as Thomas specified help you keep track of where you are in the books. The most common of these are page numbers. This allows you to type p45 in the pane's navigation bar and jump to that spot in the document. They are hidden in the compiled book. Here's an example of how you might use page milestones in Logos

Next Datatype links provide links to references. These can be Bibles or other ancient works (i.e. Josephus, Antiquities 1.1). Basically if you want to link to something with versification and have Logos respect your priority list then this is the way to go.

Resource links, well, I'd have a hard time explaining better than the wiki page. Basically if you want to link to a specific book this would be what you use. For example, if you want to link to a verse in the NET bible (because of its unique translation of a phrase) regardless of your top prioritized Bible, you'd use this type of link.

Finally, fields are ways that you can restrict a search to particular zones or fields of a book. For example, if you wanted to create abstracts preceding articles in a book you could tag the abstract with a field so that you can just search the abstract when searching that resource. (EDIT: I've been playing with this just now and it appears that you might need to use a search field Logos already has... not sure or if I'm just hitting a compiling issue.)
