Help! Dropdown Menus no longer work after 4.3 update!

This is an interesting problem: my dropdown menus inside of panels and windows will pop open and close so fast that I can't actually select anything.

For example, say I'm looking at the NIV and I wanted to go to a parallel resource like the NLT. When I click the parallel resource button, the menu pops in and out so fast that I can't actually select anything. This is true for ALL panels and windows (but not the menu at the top)...very frustrating.

It wasn't doing this until today (after letting Logos install version 4.3.

P.S. My PC version doesn't have this problem.

We are unable to reproduce the issue. You may want to try restarting your Mac as an initial troubleshooting step.

If you're still experiencing this issue at that point, it would be helpful to see some diagnostic logs for your program including the trouble behavior. Alternately, you are always free to give Customer Support a call for assistance as well: 1-800-875-6467, M-F, 6am-5pm Pacific Time.

Curious if single clicking or double clicking ?

Can replicate parallel resource menu quick disappearance by double clicking.

With single click (and wait couple seconds for parallel list menu to populate), then can click parallel resource (e.g. NIV 84 => NLT).

I was on the phone with tech support for about an hour yesterday and uploaded log files. I'm gathering this is a Lion/Logos 4.3 issue. I'm just glad someone is having this trouble--not because I wish ill on anyone; it means I'm not crazy!

I don't think that your (or tech support's) analysis of the problem is correct. This has been an intermittent and elusive problem for a while. Unfortunately (or not) the problem seems to disappear as randomly as it appears. I have certainly had the problem with setting the parameters of searches before and once or twice with aspects of the library panel.

I know it sound very Windowsy but in this case shutting down and restarting the computer may be the best recommendation for giving you a chance of continuing your work.

I wonder to myself - if that is the solution, is the problem related to the fabled memory leaks in mono?

Perhaps in the past it was intermittent for some users, but for me (running Lion): it is ALL drop down menus doing this (not just search) and it has not worked since the upgrade to 4.3 the day it was rolled out.

Before 4.3 (with Lion): no problem...ever. But after Logos restarted with 4.3 installed: all drop-down menus not functioning correctly. To make it more difficult to use, if I right-click on a highlighted passage of Scripture (or in a reference), the window pops up but I cannot click on anything (as soon I click, it quickly goes away). Know what that means? No copy, search this resource, or add a note...

It is very interesting (in a frustrating kind of way) to say the least. It seems to be an obscure problem as none of the standard fixes work (i.e. restarting the program, restarting the Mac, uninstall/reinstall the engine, etc.) and it's proving very difficult or impossible for anyone to reproduce.

In the short of it, for whatever reason and for whatever obscure bug, 4.3 has rendered by Mac version virtually unusable. Thank goodness I have the PC version at home so I can continue preparing sermons. Don't know what I'd do without it.

I am having the same trouble on Lion, with the right click functionality. Quick flash and menu is gone.would like to know if anyone finds solution! Rebooting is not solving anything. Everything worked perfect previously, and right click works in very other application.

The context menu (right-click menu) issues on the Mac platform are known and should be resolved in 4.3 SR-1.

The issue with drop down menus that you reported, Joel, may (or may not) be related and has been brought to the attention of Development for investigation.

That's the trouble with language, it can mean so many different things! [:D]

If there is anyone with the right-click issue when doing a Bible Word Study, I have discovered that a right-click on the word in the Bible pane will give the menu I am seeking. I forget what the translation pane is called at the bottom, so I'll refer to it as the reverse-interlinear pane... the same functionality is directly available at the highlighted word. Maybe this is a new feature, I did not know that I could do this previously, saves a little mousey step.

I found a fun workaround for not being able to right-click anything in Logos 4.3 for Mac:

Call my wife at home.
Get her to start up the PC.
Open Logos 4.3 (for PC).
Make any changes I need to search options or resources.
Click the "sync" icon.
Tell her "I love her".
Proceed with sermon preparation at the church office on Logos 4.3 for Mac.

Apologies: heard = no, however looking at http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Release_Notes_and_History noticed a pattern of weekly 4.3 releases since Tue 31 May. Also noticed first service release often within a week of "Gold"; If history repeats, hoping for Logos 4.3 SR-1 to ship in a day or two.

I'm not able to reproduce the flashing menus or context menus in SR-1, but did get a crash after right-clicking in a number of places in the ESV RVI pane and will submit logs to development.

It would be helpful to get logsfrom your system that log the behavior you're seeing, including hangs or crashes. Could you temporarily enable logging by holding down Cmd key as soon as you start the program, keeping it held down until the Sign In window appears, and then clicking Sign In?

was happening to me, too, but slight improvement.

yesterday, I couldn't open my parallel resources or the '3 circles' (sorry for lack of Logos speak)

today, my PR drop down works.

ODDLY, when I open the tab in a floating window I get the '3 circles' to work. Then when I dock it, it does not work.

I've been having the same problem, although it's better today. Yesterday, my Parallel Resource drop down would not work nor would the '3 Circle' drop down.

Today the PR drop down works, but still no luck w/ the '3 circle'.

Update!

After working with Anton at Logo Tech (a great guy, BTW), it seems there is an issue with AMD products. Being that my MacBook has AMD graphics: when I run Logos on my second monitor (connected via the thunderbolt port through an HDMI cable), the drop-down issue exists. If I drag Logos back to the primary (built-in) display, problem goes away!

It's not a solution (they're working on that) but it's a workaround that keeps you in business until they do find a solution.

So...if you're having this problem on a MacBook Pro and your Logos is on your second display, try pulling it to your primary display and see if it fixes the problem.

Glad it seems to be working...I had this problem one other time on this Macbook Pro but it lasted the whole of 5 seconds--that was on Snow Leopard. I was on Lion now when 4.3 came out.

I would urge anyone with this problem to submit logs to Logos. It really does help them determine exactly what in these AMD graphics chipsets is causing this problem. You can submit logs here: http://www.logos.com/mac/support/bugs

Joel, I did notice that when I pulled logos back on my MBP screen from my monitor the problem went away. Good to point that out for folks!

I am not running AMD grahics though. I am on a 13" MBP with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, 8Gb ram and Lion (10.7.1).

David, I would still suggest taking the time (and trouble!) of submitting the logs...when I was on the phone with Anton, it was unclear whether this was limited to AMD graphics, a problem with the Thunderbolt port or both. Your experience seems to indicate it is beyond AMD.

I am having exactly the same problem. Right click on drop down menu and it flashes away in front of my eyes so fast i cannot read it or choose anything. MOST annoying and renders the stuff almost useless. I wish someone would fix this. I am using Lion and V4.3.
