Read Aloud control

Where would I best get more help on using "Read Aloud"

How do I start where I want, go back, or forward, pause?  What increments are possible?

Any control over how often the current reading position is flashed on the screen?

It seems a fantastic plus to someone like me, who reads a lot, but for some reason is still not good at it.

However I have not found granular enough control over this function.

All help much appreciated

    This Document states:

"You can pause the Read Aloud by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl R or on the Mac Cmd R. To restart Read Aloud from where you paused it, use the keyboard shortcut again. "

But if I pause, It starts again at the start.

The start of reading aloud is not from the top of page in my resource, or the page number which I turned on, as suggested, but at a major division.  If I pause, and it starts at the beginning, and takes a long time to get back to where I paused.

This could be to do with the level of control in different resources. Maybe I need to be able to tell what level of control I am going to get for a certain resource.  ??

Replicated Logos 4.3 SR-1 on Mac and Windows regression that removed Read Aloud pause option; updated wiki => http://wiki.logos.com/Read_Aloud page.

Using Logos 4.3 SR-1, can replicate jump to a milestone to begin reading vis starting at top of panel.  Created post => BUG: Logos 4.3 SR-1 Read Aloud Regression

Edit option: can add BUG: prefix to forum post title, wiki has Using the Forums page.

KS4J, since this is a regression bug, then changing the wiki page is Not necessary. After they fix the bug the wiki page will be wrong per your change. i suggest reverting the wiki page back to its original content, so that when the bug is fixed that the wiki page will again be accurate.

Once verify regression bug fixed for Read Aloud pause in a stable release on Mac and Windows, plan to restore pause and resume option to Starting Read Aloud section.  Currently not planning to change wiki page about regression bugginess: Read Aloud jumps up to a resource milestone that may not be visible in panel before starting to speak words (so positioning resource to desired starting line can be preceded by resource scrolling up before Text to Speech begins); my plans may change based on Logos response (e.g. if fix planned for future development cycle, then adding note about current stable Read Aloud behavior seems appropriate).

While removing pause directions from http://wiki.logos.com/Read_Aloud , also added Windows 7 control panel screen shot to Changing the Voice or Speed section plus a couple notes with forum references (that are not affected by buggy regression).  Windows 7 Control Panel does not have classic view like Vista; "Text to Speech" became a "Speech Recognition" option (not visible when Control Panel viewed by Category; hence screen shot includes "Ease of Access").

Yes, but your change is wrong for all those who are not running L4 ver 4.3.

EDIT: it not practical to change the wiki to cover up bugs. The wiki would be a real mess if we changed every wiki page when a temporal bug is found (users with older versions would be really confused, and yes there are many users who never post who have older version)

EDIT2: Regarding the other changes, keep them and you could correct earlier part that you changed (e.g. open a 2nd copy of the wiki page and click the edit there too. Then click on revert to the previous page and in the editor go down to the original text and copy it to the clipboard. Then click the cancel button on that edit session and go to the first edit session and replace with the clipboard contents).

  • Apologies: as a Logos user with Many Volunteer Posts (MVP), not know % of Logos 4 user base that has upgraded to Logos 4.3 with free Personal Book (PB) tool.  From volume of PB forum threads, appears many Logos 4 users have upgraded.

Learning Logos 4.3 SR-1 keyboard shortcut is not integrated with Read Aloud audio player controls on toolbar, whose pause and play button works on Mac and Windows.

    image

Logos 4 Help includes: "Read aloud [Mac: CMD-R; Windows: CTRL+R]: Start or Stop reading aloud. (Not available in all resources.) An audio player will be visible on the right side of the toolbar, next to layouts."

Observation: Logos 4 Mac has Read Aloud audio player on right side of tool bar, but has a Layouts menu (vis Layouts drop down on right side of toolbar).

Pondering Starting Read Aloud section update with screen shots showing Logos 4 Read Aloud audio player on Mac and Windows (with pause buttons) using verses that correspond with existing screen shots.

By the way, can use wiki page history difference comparison to highlight changes (along with copy and paste).

  • How do I start where I want, go back, or forward, pause?  What increments are possible?

Learning Logos 4.3 starts reading at a resource milestone.  Bibles and Bible Commentaries have a milestone for every verse.  Monograph resources may only have page number milestones.  If middle of page displayed, starting Read Aloud scrolls resource up to page number, then starts reading.

Audio player controls have play and pause.  Noticeably missing are forward and reverse.

Any control over how often the current reading position is flashed on the screen?

Appears current reading position flashes at a resource milestone.

However I have not found granular enough control over this function.

Looking at Logos User Voice, noticed Read Aloud and Improve reading aloud with status planned that includes Logos response: "We plan to fix this (and other defects) in Read Aloud in a future version."
