Happened across one of those divisive, opinionated, off topic posts, and was trying very hard to not point out the glaring errors in the assumptions made by the author.

And just when I was almost about to start the feeding process (against my better judgment), the post disappeared.

Agreed, especially the latter, considering some of the adversarial OP's and threads begun recently (I take it that's what is being referred to). I had gotten to the point I didn't care to check out the forum.

I have been away from the forum for a bit and this is most welcome news. Is there a policy explanation by Logos or did they just begin taking action?

No new policy or position. This was part of an overall response to a particular incident and came from the top.

I for one... Do not appreciate censorship! I say let the people speak their mind.

However, I do believe in some type of order. But, c'mon folks just because ONE forum member

gets out of line, get thicker skin, don't feed the animal!

I say people speak up, share your minds with others.

Anyone who enters a forum (another's property) has to abide by the rules of that forum. Logos has allowed a great latitude of discourse on the forum. A constant and flagrant violator has to be dealt with.

Generally, it is Bob's position to allow the forums to go uncensored. In this case, however, there were racist, sexist and other derogatory comments that were way over the top. The forums need to be a comfortable place for all people to come and learn how to use Logos software. I feel that comments that cross that line must be censored. If Bob has a default position, however, it is to allow freedom of speech.

Perhaps a true statement, but that does not mean people always need to hear things they may not like. It was abundantly clear that the deleted user had no interest in adding anything constructive to the conversation. This had nothing to do with censorship. It had to do with common sense.

I was unaware any post went to that level. But, if some one is using racial epithets/names and vulgar words, I would agree that needs to be redacted. I also don't want all out apostasy to take place on forum either. If the post is that over the top, then yes we need to bring order to the forum. There is a fine line when it comes to censorship. Lastly, I understand who owns the forum (I don't know why this is constantly repeated) I get that.

It is a private space that has invited the public in. "Censorship" isn't a bad word in private discourse. You have the right to control what goes on in your living room. I've always tried to look at it this way (at least this seems the most logical to me):

These forums, while for the most part may reflect Christian beliefs, are in no way intended to be a group of Christians discussing the Bible or those beliefs.
Instead these forums can best be defined as a group of software users discussing the software they use.

Hence the owner's request to keep all other discussions off of these forums.

I completely disagree. It is not broadcast--you have to come to it. (But even if it was, that doesn't make it public. A radio station is still a private entity and can decide what is broadcast). It is privately owned. It occurs on Logos' private property--their servers. There are no freedom of speech protections on a private forum. Just because the public is invited in does not make it public. If I threw a party at my house and invited the town, I still have the right to throw out any boorish guest who decides to insult me or my guests.

I'm sorry but your analogy is misguided... I owned private retail stores... guess what the property was mine. But, the City, County, State and Federal Government made the rules that applied to my private space, by virtue they were opened to the public.

True. Just as the government places certain restrictions on communities there are those who have determined certain rules for the internet (e.g. domain protocol, etc.) However within those set of rules websites can further restrict users just as you, as an owner of a private retail store, can set standards that further restrict users within that government defined set of restrictions. for instances the government may not have a law that says you must wear shoes and shirt, but as a store owner you can set that law.

Same exact thing is happening here. In order for Logos to recognize you as a legit poster you must abide by certain rules. If you don't, Logos has the right to no longer recognize you as a legit poster.

Yes, but it was still your private space. Those kind of laws are contested all the time, and as far as I know, they do not apply to electronic communications. Also, the forums are not the "place of business"--you don't have to be a customer to take part in the forums, and you don't have to take part in the forums to purchase from Logos. Hence the living room analogy.

But still, in your private store, you still had some semblance of control over what went on in the store, no? If someone was telling everyone who entered the store they were fat and ugly, you'd kick them out, right?

I understand, and respect the rules. I don't have a problem with rules. I have a problem, with people that like to continually point out rules; and don't even follow the rules them themselves.

Don't get this wrong, I have heavily invested into Logos software and I appreciate this forum. It is the people that make this forum possible, because with out the help of people, this would fail miserably.
