In
your readings in Logos, I’m sure you have come across words that you wanted to
add to a list in order to learn new (or forgotten) words. Or, maybe you want to study definitions for
other reasons. When I used to use Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary
CD-ROM, the program allowed me to save my favorite English words, which also
linked to their definitions. It would be
cool to have something like this in Logos Bible Software.
It
would be like a virtual index (flash) card system, which could be listed as
"Vocabulary Builder" under Tools in Logos. Each word is a hyperlink
to its definition from a resource, locally or on the web. Placing your pointer over the word will display
its approximate pronunciation or its part of speech. Logos program should know
the language of the word, and therefore will add the word to the appropriate
language list (i.e. English, Greek, Hebrew, etc.) Each language supported by
Logos will have its own stack of virtual index cards. Looking at the Tools drop down menu - when
the language list has no entries, it is grayed out; if the language list has at
least one entry, it is in bold (Latin, Aramaic, Greek). A language
list is akin to a stack of index cards, with the word entry on one side and the
common definition on the other.
My
feeble attempt with some user stories for a universal, multi-language
vocabulary builder and flash card system:
As
a Logos user who wants to learn new definitions, I right-mouse click an
English, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, or Aramaic word (lemma form) and select
"Add to Vocabulary Builder", so that I can add the word to my
language list.
As
a Logos user, I select Tools drop down panel and click on a bold language list (e.g.
English). This displays a word from that language list.
As
a Logos user, I select “shuffle” to display the words from my language list in
random order.
As
a Logos user who wants to increase vocabulary, I click on the word (which is a
hyperlink) to bring up a lexicon or dictionary definition of that word (akin to
flipping the index card to view the definition).
As a Logos user, I click on a “delete” icon to remove the
currently displayed word and definition from my language list.
As a Logos user, I click on a “pronunciation” icon to hear how the
word is pronounced (if supported in Logos).
As a Logos user, I mark the word “done” so that it is no longer displayed
(but still remains in the language stack).

I know others have requested a flash card system or built-in
vocabulary tool in Logos. Would Logos add
these to its product backlog for a future release?
