Android Beta on Appslib
I have a cheap coby android tablet, that I would like to test the logos app on - but it does not come with Android Market.
It uses AppsLib for its market.
Could you please either
1) make the app available on AppsLib
2)make available by either email request by download here the apk file for a manual install
I would be very willing to ack as a tester! please contact me at stimpson@ontario.anglican.ca

Thank you all SO Much...
I have got the file and have installed it!

It looks like the download is the file for beta version 6. I can't find the latest version, 11, which is much cooler.

hmmm...
The version I have is working on my tablet..but love to try the newer beta.
Logos could you put up the newer version?

I have the VIEWSONIC G TABLET. I also have the same dilemma. I have the Logos Android Beta 6 but am unable to upgrade to Version 11.

Not being an Android user, I'm surprised that Google has allowed Android to become so fragmented to the point of having multiple app stores.

Only Google approved devices can access the Google Android Market. They are typically members of the Open Handset Alliance. (Moto, Samsung, HTC, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, etc.)
Appslib is really obscure. However, it would be good if Logos also distributed the app via Amazon Android App Store since is available to all Android devices.

Fragmentation runs amok in the Android world--versions, sources, etc.

Android risk includes malicious apps => http://www.informationweek.com/blog/231300281 (may be prudent to install an anti-virus app).
Fragmentation effects article mentions various App Stores => http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/93760-how-android-fragmentation-actually-affects-users
Google announced Android anti-fragmentation tool => http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20038616-264.html
For Amazon's App Store, found developer link => https://developer.amazon.com/welcome.html (Amazon plans to charge $ 99 per year after first free year). Amazon allows apps being offered on Google's Android Market to also be available via Amazon.
Also noticed Kindle Development Kit (KDK) => http://kdk.amazon.com/gp/vendor/kindlepubs/kdk/gateway?ie=UTF8&originatingURI=%2Fgp%2Fvendor%2Fmembers%2Fkindlepubs%2Fkdk%2Fhome (free Kindle app's are less than 1 MB in size and use less than 100KB / user / month)
By the way, read about rooting coby tablet so can use Android Market (vis AppsLib); also read Amazon App Store for Android was usable on coby tablet without rooting. Hence suggestion for Logos app in Amazon's App Store for Android appears viable.

Looks like you and I are in the same boat Steve. I'd love the newer version too. After beta testing a few products for Logos, I was surprised at what I got when I downloaded the file from the link. It looked only like an eReader app and not the beloved Logos Bible Software.
So, here's another request Logos: Please put up the newer version.
Peace & Blessings,

Another vote for AppLib. I am primarily an iOS user but also have an Archos 7" tablet I use on occasion. I would like to have the latest beta but don't have access to the Android Market and only get an older version from the link provided.

For those using AppsLib, install Amazon Android App Store: http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
Much better selection of apps and newer versions as well. They also give away a free app every day.
Now, if we can get Logos to add the Android app to Amazon...

Hi Tony
The Amazon app store does look good, but it does not allow people from outside the US to download apps.
I live in Canada so I can't get any apps from there...although it helpfully allows me to install the market, and tempts me with all the apps. I do have a Amazon account and can buy some things from amazon US, and for some things it directs me to the Canadian site, but for the app store it just says "Sorry apps are not available from the appstore in your area at this time."
I do think the best thing would be for Logos to just have the newest file available for download from their site.
I must say I am not impressed with Google's attempt to go Appleish, and control who can get what apps. Yes so apps will not work on some phones...but that has been true in the windows PC world forever. People need to be vigilant and make sure they have the required hardware, or a good return policy and then be able to try things and see how it goes. It is not only what hardware and operating system you have but also other operating software on the particular device that sometimes impacts operation. Google needs to remember android's open source roots!
And yes, it is possible to root the Coby devices, as well as most tablets, but why would Logos want to force people to do that. Enough of my little rant....I am still grieving the loss of the openness and wild west environment of windows CE and following.
I vote for the app available here, it will allow for the most robust testing of the beta, on the widest number of devices. Yes you need to know how to install apk files, but that isn't really that hard. If Google Market has them tied up in some sort of limited distribution license, then negotiate with Google to make the file available by email request - that at least shouldn't be a problem for a beta.

Again Steve, we're in the same boat ... I'm from Canada too ... so Amazon doesn't work for me either. It would be helpful if Logos put a link to the file each time they updated the app, then we could download it easily.

We will be updating the direct link (http://downloads.logos.com/Android/Logos/beta/index.html) with the most current Beta when the next one ships.
Currently there are no plans to place our app in the Amazon App Store, Appslib or other services. This does not, of course, rule that out in the future.
Thanks,

Hi Hunter,
Thanks in advance for the update. Will the direct link be kept up to date as new iterations ship?

Thanks Hunter for the update.
I will look forward to seeing the new app for testing.
I am with Colin , in that I do hope that as the app is updated and moves into production versions, Logos mantains a way for the many devices not certified by Google to downlod the app, and at least try it to see if it will work.

We are temporarily making the stable release (currently 0.9.0b) of the app available at http://downloads.logos.com/Android/Logos/stable/index.html. We will have a more permanent option for non-Market users in a couple weeks.
