Unfortunately, changing them might change the price the person is charged. Also there are still products that are CD only.

It's only available on CD, and if it did become available for download, I'd lose my Community Pricing price by changing it.

I'm assuming we'll still have to install these things (Hengstenberg, Tyndale comm., etc) as v3 products and sync our licenses to get them in v4.

From the look of the Logos prepub page for the Tyndale Commentaries they are only available on CDROM - can we assume that these resources will work with Logos 4?

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do, but there has been a big change in policy at Logos about ever being able to resell collections and resources you buy. You will never be able to resell a collection that was downloaded, only those on CD. This whole issue has been addressed by Bob a couple of times on the forums so I don't think this is the place to get back into it.

That said, and assuming Logos continues that policy, CDs are the most secure way to go. I'm not sure exactly why a CD even of a Logos 3-formatted resource would not be acceptable for a Logos 4 user. Eventually Logos 4 would discover the updated L4 version on the server and download it to one's L4 Resource directory.

I'm not trying to start a fight here, but it seems the download only for L4 issue has to do with the format in which the versions are available on CD and via download, which really should not make much difference to the user.

As you say, this isn't the place to get into a big licensing discussion, but... I think you may have misunderstood the resale policy.

It sounds to me like collections, download or otherwise, can still be resold. More specifically, the license can be resold. The issue with something on a cd is if you buy a cd and never even open it, certainly there is no issue selling it since you never used it. If you use it, selling becomes trickier and there is a license transfer fee associated with a resell, just as there has been for some time.

This means whether you buy cd or download, the issue remains the license. If you use the resource you will have to do the same things to sell it whether you obtained it via download or via cd.

That said, Logos is not doing license transfers until January, if the rumors are correct.

I've pre-purchased Tyndale as well, and my main concern is that the new resource will work in Logos 4 without having to go back and reinstall Logos 3, and/or cancel my third-party order and get it direct from Logos to make sure I can get it into Logos 4 without hassles.

This will probably be available for download for Logos 4 once production has been completed, as it will work differently than it does in LDLS 3, which uses an Addin. If you were to install and activate a new book from CD in LDLS 3, it will be be recognized in Logos 4, and when the Logos 4 version is available, it will be automatically downloaded.

Glad that the issue is resolved in our favor. As Melissa has said, it really doesn't make a difference which form of delivery we take if we are willing to first install a resource in 3.0.

If you intend to keep 3.0 running with all your new purchases this would be the way to go right now, anyway. At some point we will be able to get the now 4.0-only resources that could work in 3.0 converted over for use in 3.0 and downloaded, but as of a couple of days ago that capability didn't exist.

When I upgraded from L3 Gold to L4 Platinum, I had Opening Up Commentary Collection on pre-pub. After completing the upgrade order, I checked my pre-pubs and that one was gone. Your Holman Reference Collection should disappear from your pre-pub page after you complete your order, but in case it doesn't, it would be easy manually to cancel it.

BTW, I love what I'm seeing with L4.

The problem is only with using CD's made for 3.0 under 4.0, right?

I have a lot of current pre-orders outstanding, and I always choose download (if possible, though it isn't always possible). I don't really want to take another few hours to edit them, but I think I'm OK.

My initial concern was that you HAVE TO get the CD to have the 3.0-compatible version, but this is not what the blurb says. Am I misunderstanding that?

I have bought the 4.0 upgrade, but I don't want to abandon 3.0 until or unless I know that the program and titles will all work, including off-line or without Internet access (as far as running the program). I don't want to be stuck with 4.0 only for all these on-order titles.

I'm not sure I understand your question, Jonathan. I don't think there is a difference in price between the L3 or L4 edition of books, just that the L4 books have to be downloaded. I'm sure I'm missing something in your question.

Yes Paul. L4 downloads everything right to your computer without any effort on your part. It indexes it and integrates it into the existing index.

L3 still works the same as before, you need to manually install stuff.

I've gotten clarification of a couple of things regarding the prepub orders:

First, I was incorrect in suggesting that you can change the order manually from CD to Download--apparently that it is not currently available to customers in your Logos.com web account, but we are working on it. You can contact Customer Support, though, and ask them to do that for you. Keep in mind, however, that if the product is only being offered on CD, we won't be able to change it to Download.
The Download works for both LDLS 3 and Logos 4, but the CD-ROM works only in 3.0 (see note below). If a 4.0 customer orders a CD, they'll get a disc that will install LDLS 3. So, 4.0 users would want to select Download; 3.0 users can select either, until we switch to building 4.0-only resources (date not yet determined).

Note: If you ordered a CD for a prepub, or if CD was the only choice, once the product has been activated, the license for that product will be installed in Logos 4 when you sign in, and Logos 4 should download the resource.

This is what I was getting at, there's nothing stopping users from buying 3.0 compatible products, and resources and continuing to enjoy the full benefits of Logos 4 in the future for those same products. Likewise there's nothing stopping users from purchasing a 'download' version, and getting the corresponding files to use the resources (IN MOST Cases) in 3.0

The terminology in the description for purchasing resources doesn't make this distinction readily clear.

I am not the best computer / program user but as far as i know the library program i use, LDLS, is version 3 of the Logos software and I am wondering if I have to buy a base package just to be able to buy single books in the future? Or will the library program be update somehow ? And what are the base products like? The area of my study interest is quite small in my opinion at the moment and I'm wondering if the packages contain too much stuff I would never use and the way I see it I still have to buy the best products like HALOT separately.

I think you have to have a base package in order to purchase individual offerings from Logos. Check out the Scholar's or Scholar's Silver package. If you are a student, you will want to check with Logos about student discounts. They are quite substantial, from what I understand.

The packages may provide a good bit of resources you may not need or want at the present, but if they contain several useful resources, you'll find the package price, especially if you can get the student discount, a great bargain. My package has resources I'll never use, but the price individually of the items I do use would be several times over the price of the package itself.

You can continue to purchase individual books for LDLS 3, for possibly some time. I'm not sure when new eBooks will be in Logos 4 format, but I'm sure it will be posted on our website once Logos 4 is required. very many of us in the past who had only ever purchased individual resources (such as lexicons) and SESB for academic purposes ended up buying the Original Languages Library when that was released for 3.0. It contains less of the "pastoral helps" stuff and is aimed at people in your situation.

You may want to check out that option: http://www.logos.com/originallanguages.

There is academic pricing available and if you own many of these resources, they will probably do you a deal.

it will work if you choose download when you order, for us who choose the cdrom option, we will need to install in ver 3 first, sync the license then it will work under 4
