Need Suggestions for N.T. Wright Books

Hi, I have never read any of N.T. Wright's material before, I
actually had never even heard of him before until he was in Bible Study
Magazine. The majority of people here seem to think he is a real
blessing to read. I'll probably have to wait until the bundle goes on
sale or gets broken up to buy any of them in Logos.

A previous thread has
piqued my curiosity and I looked at some things on the internet and
would like two book suggestions. The first would be one in which he
discusses his opinion of hell (I think he might fall along the lines of a
"conditionalist" but not sure). The second would be a book where he
discusses women in leadership roles, I understand that he might give a
very good argument against a position that I have been taught for years and I'm always open to learning other perspectives and thoughts.

If I enjoy his writing I will be sure to pick up his Logos collection when I can. Thanks.

I'm not aware of books where he has discussed the issue of women in ministry, but here's a link to a lecture he gave on the subject. It also has the advantage of not costing anything!

As far as his writings are concerned, Surprised by Hope starts treating the subject of hell. If you are interested in his "magnum opus" works, the rest of the series are based on The New Testament and the People of God (which is available either on its own or part of a Logos collection). At the more popular end, his "for everyone" New Testament book commentaries are much easier reading! NTPG is available on Logos, or as part of the NT Wright Collection, as are the "For everyone" books.

Not only is "Tom" (N.T. Wright) a good read, he is a pleasant speaker. Go search Youtube and check him out. He is a skilled communicator and knows how to teach on different levels. And he makes you think, without telling you you are stupid. [8-|] [C]

I missed out on the individual sales for the three volumes in the Christian Origins and the Question of God Series (3 vols.) by Wright, N. T. last January. I'm still kicking myself.

His most "popular" book is Surprised by Hope and is a good intro to his other more popular writings.

On the academic side I would suggest Jesus and the Victory of God or The Resurrection of the Son of God. Both academic in the good and bad sense of the adj. when describing tomes as big and footnote-filled as these!

I saw glances of him on web sites that were linked to YouTube but it was getting late and I had to call it a night. I'll go back and watch some of them. I like being made to think, even though that can be dangerous! I was not aware of the Christian Origins and the Question of God series in Logos, I had only noticed what Greg had mentioned. This might be a better solution for me.

Hi Mike, when you say "Academic" are you meaning it in a way that someone probably needs to be either more than an average Bible reader or seminary/college trained? If so, I don't fall into either category. I really do better with "Cat in the Hat" than "Gone with the Wind" [:$]

The Christian Origins and the Question of God series includes The New Testament and the People of God, Jesus and The Victory of God, and The Resurrection of the Son of God as well as a volume on Paul that is due out early next year. The first of these lays a foundation for the others, so it is well worth reading NTPG before the others in the series. Over here in England, his "academic" books are published as NT Wright, while his "popular" work is published as Tom Wright. As someone suggested above, Surprised by Hope is a good pllace to start, deals with hell (which was one of your parameters) and apart from one chapter is not difficult to read for those who are not theologically trained.
