Overview

One of the most important figures of the 16th century, Desiderius Erasmus was a leading reformist and Renaissance humanist. Through his works and letters, Erasmus championed that true religion was a matter of inward devotion rather than outward symbols of ceremony and ritual, and sought to reform aspects of the Church from within. His works showed an astonishing intelligence, razor-sharp wit, and an authentic love for God and humanity. Soon after publication, his works were translated and read all over Europe.

The Desiderius Erasmus Collection (17 vols.) contains all of Erasmus' major works and more. In Praise of Folly, one of Erasmus' best-known books, is considered one of the most notable works of the Renaissance humanists. Against War and The Complaint of Peace still hold their own as some of the best Christian anti-violence literature written. The Colloquies of Erasmus is satire at its finest—funny, inspiring, rich with knowledge, poignant, captivating, and entertaining. And Francis Morgan Nichols' 3-volume anthology of Erasmus' letters show the depth and compassion of a man who's influence would change the world forever.

It's not so strange for those of us from the Christian Humanist fold. Although later Anabaptists were loathe to mention it (or perhaps unaware), we owe a good deal of our interpretations to Erasmus of Rotterdam. One looks at the Biblical text through colored glasses. The early Anabaptists, to some extent, looked at it through Erasmian colored glasses.

May be "Pique" would have been better.[:|]

I still feel that the other word can still be used in many non vulgar connotactions (as I was using it) in the sence of GOADing (with out using a cattle prod) the rail sitters into acction.[:D]

Back to the real topic at hand, it is still a good price and we all know what happen the min it reaches pre pub!

I can never decide whether to laugh or cry at the filter. When the **** comes up, it makes me think of the vulgar meaning when if the word itself came up, the vulgar sense would not occur to me. Seems like Logos is planting vulgar thoughts in my mind - deliberately[:P]

What really amused me was when Logos put The Works of John Dick (4 vols.) up at CP. (Yes, folks, that's D-i-c-k.) I mean, decent enough to sell, but not decent enough to be mentioned on the forums? That's really ridiculous! (For some reason I don't think anyone ever wrote a single post about that CP... -- though I seriously considered doing it, just to expose the absurdity of the situation.)
