Over the many years -- Logos Newsgroups - Logos Forums - Logos Blogs - Logos E-Mail- Logos WebSite -- there have been various contests and give-aways. Great! Fine!

I have learned "early on" (and came to very pleasantly accept it!) that Logos was limited - for legal reasons - that U.S. residency or citizenship was required. Fine!

But, I wish, Dear Logos, that you would think it over a wee bit -- remembering once again that you have Logos users from all over the world -- before posting some of your contests and give-aways.

Although I realise for some time now that they are NOT for everyone, I would still appreciate your wording them a bit more carefully.

As far as I can tell, Canadians can participate and win, perhaps excluding those in Quebec. I will look into this a little bit and let you know if that's not the case!

Legal? Come on ... Logos is not the police or immigration office... Where's the list of acceptable identity documents to match with passport/visa.

Note: I am touchy on this subject because when my daughter began working at 16 we discovered that the State of Oregon Child Protective Service had an incorrect Social Security Number for her. They had 4 possible legal names for her ... none of which had been used since the 7th grade. All I really had was a letter from Catholic Community Services that stated when they had taken over her case 18 months earlier it was already a mess. Luckily we did know the date and place of her birth (Lincoln City, Oregon) and enough about her parents to eventually identify her.

Your rules are not my problem. My problem is your advertising of these "specials" sometimes, this time saying Everybody Could Win.

I'm happy for our Dear Sweet Rosie of the Logos Forums, a Vancouver, British Columbia resident; because it seems she is eligible to win!

A U.S. Citizen (not resident, though!) living in Canada. She may just qualify????

I noted it says "Everyone can win" - which is not true. Only one person can win. Maybe, "Everyone Can Enter" - but the rules make it clear that is also not true. Or maybe it should be "Anyone can win" - which is a bit closer to the truth.

I thought the same thing until I actually read the post. In actuality, "Everyone" can win. They are running a promotion where if enough people "like" the Facebook page, the trial period will be extended for "everyone."

There appear to be some discrepancies in the rules. Are there multiple rules? If you go to http://www.punchtab.com/rules/giveaway?id=1444 which holds itself out as being the "official" rules you will see the following:

Hey, MC I understand the sentiment, I have no issue with not being able to enter, but I'd prefer not to get e-mails telling me about a competition I can't enter, they do have what country we live in in their database so surely a mailing list could be created based on that information so those not eligible don't get the e-mail...seems obvious but for whatever reason is not done that way.

An observation to that thought, if you'll let me:

I share your concern in some ways but have come to the conclusion that the "American language of advertisements" always has this element of portraying personal and letting everyone believe they have a great opportunity. Going against this flow is as reasonable as the thought of "correctifying" the whole language of the American nation. To me the problem is more with the language and I also need to be reminded that language itself is never absolute.

We Finns get this kind of advertisement language from every American outlet all the time and it sucks. I deal with it by thinking it's part of their inate communication. It's really against all the ways of Finnish communication which is frank and overly truthful, but it's not for us to tell how Americans speak their language.

Thanks for your comments. I agree with much of what you have said. I have never been in sales before, and don't know how well I would do. I am passionate about the products I believe in, and I naturally try to promote them. For example, I love Apple Computers (no comment George [:D]). When I have the opportunity to try to "sell" someone on getting a Mac, I generally ask them what they use their computer for. I have talked several people into purchasing one, but I have also talked someone out of a purchase because it didn't meet their needs.

I'm not sure what to call what the other half speaks. It's not English though it bears a faint resemblance thereto. As Professor Henry Higgins says in the movie My Fair Lady "Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?" Just a thought - could I sell my entry to a Canadian? I am a legal American, but do not want an iPhone - or any smart phone for that matter. I would be willing to enter the contest for a price. We could have a sliding scale - a small stipend to enter and a larger kickback if I should win.

Now, I am just kidding about selling my entry. On the other hand, I really do not want a smart phone - I could not afford the monthly charges on such a device.
