Logos App in Amazon AppStore for Android?
Hello,
Now that the USD 199 Kindle Fire is announced, will Logos post Logos App in Amazon's store? I would love to have the Kindle Fire thing and use Logos there. I think there will be many other users with Kindle Fire wanting Logos there, too. Kindle Fire ships in second half of November.
Thanks.

I'm wondering the same thing. If it will be available, that would make the Kindle Fire a very, very compelling device for me.

Logos, please put it there. I just ordered my Fire and really have to have Logos to make it as useful as my iPad.

I've ordered mine too and it will be awesome to have it on my new Amazon Kindle Fire. Since it's being released in November, that gives you plenty of time to get it into the Marketplace, and while I know it's free on the Android Market if I even had to pay for it in the Amazon Marketplace I would! Thanks!

I can't find it now but earlier on Cnet I saw the Fire is running on an older version of Android. Not sure how that will affect things.

We'll see hands-on reviews soon, I think.
Amazon is using a forked and customized version for Kindle Fire. And I like their idea of customizing the whole infrastructure, providing Amazon Silk layer for the browser, too. Of course, that means they will monitor whatever we view in Kindle, but... for the price you may sacrifice a part of your privacy.
However, I am not sure yet about Google Apps - they don't seem to be available in AppStore of Amazon, so you will lack them. In case you still need Google intergration, Lenovo IdeaPad A1 (same price announced) may fit better. I am thinking right now, since Lenovo may sell cheaper in Russia compared to Amazon.

I pre-ordered the Fire, too, mainly to get in the queue. One drawback with the Fire, it seems to me, is its limited 8GB storage. That's fine for consumers who are basically utilizing Amazon's cloud, but what about Logos users who want to download their Logos resources, provided there is a Logos app for the Fire? Does anyone else see this as an issue?

I just logged in to ask the same question. I have been a Logos user since the early 90s and love having my library available on my Droid X. I am also an avid Kindle fan and would be overjoyed to see the app on the new Fire. Hopefully it's absence from the Amazon store is due to it's beta status...

Looking at Technical details => http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051VVOB2/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=reality&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B0051VVOB2&adid=0RDQ2B1ZJ834EDFD9651
noted 8 GB internal, enough for many Logos and Vyrso books (lacks SD card).
http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq includes:
Q: What are the actual download sizes for fresh installs of Logos 4 base packages?
A: Logos 4 base packages can be downloaded immediately after purchase. Here are the download sizes for each of our collections:
- Christian Home Library: 450 MB
- Bible Study Library: 4.65 GB
- Leader's Library: 4.68 GB
- Original Languages Library: 3.81 GB
- Scholar's Library: 6.06 GB
- Scholar's Library: Silver: 6.60 GB
- Scholar's Library: Gold: 6.97 GB
- Scholar's Library: Platinum: 7.28 GB
- Logos Bible Software 4: Portfolio Edition: 8.05 GB
- Note: Logos 4 will require more space than listed above if you have existing books in the Libronix format. Actual download sizes will vary by user.
Since most Logos resources are available for mobile use, but not all, wonder if could carry Portfolio edition offline in Kindle Fire ?

I don't think the storage use would be problem if you're using the device as I think it's intended. I'm assuming it's more of a consumer streaming device that is used primarily that way. I'd envision an app like the current Logos Android App that continues to be improved. From the Amazon Website it looks like 8gb could handle the below amounts...
Since most of the Amazon stuff could be used from the cloud... I think you could have quite a few books for offline use. If you're wanting more of a truly mobile workhorse, I'd wait for future versions, or wait for a Windows 8 device or get an ipad. For me, the Kindle Fire fills a great niche, but I already am tied into the Amazon system with Prime, Cloud MP3 player, Instant Video and Kindle... While I'm sure I'll probably upgrade some day... it's going to be just what I need without having to go for a $500 ipad.

Anyone know do they have a 16 Gb version coming? It would be nice to be able to read other than Logos' books with it as well.

Currently there is no other device available, though the way tech rumors swirl they are supposed to be releasing a 10 inch sometime in the first quarter 2012, which might have more space... or a slot for a MicroSD card or something similar.

The cloud storage, though, can be accessed only where you have WiFi access.

I'm seldom where I don't have access to wifi, but if I know I'm going to be going someplace without wifi -- say a retreat or something, I could download a movie or two, or a quite a few albums and books to use while away from wifi... granted it doesn't allow for spur of the moment stuff, but I also wouldn't be paying for a fairly hefty data plan either. I think in this day and age of consumer products like computers, tablets, smart phones, etc. the best advice is figure out what you want to do with the product, consider the cost and stewardship issues, and make the decision that's best for you. I've given up on finding the perfect solution... contentment is kind of hard in our modern society... I'm speaking more to myself than anyone because I'm always wanting the newest and greatest thing, including the latest collection from Logos, etc.! [;)]

I asked @DanPritchett the same in a tweet, and he replied with this. "Amazon will release developer specs soon. We've already submitted our Android app to their marketplace. It should just work." I can hardly wait!

That's really good news. Now, I've got to decide whether a 7" tablet will suffice for Logos usage or will I wish I had waited for a 10". Rumor has it that Amazon may release a 10" early 2012, as Robert noted. Plus, if I want to preach/teach from a tablet, 7" may not be large enough.
I wonder if Amazon's apps may take Android apps to a more sophisticated level, putting them on par with iOS apps. Kevin? [:)]

All the apps are going to be moderated by Amazon in terms of delivery. Right now, for example, I see the Kobo App available on the Amazon Android Apps marketplace, but I wonder if they would actually allow Barnes & Noble, Logos, or other eReader apps onto the Kindle Fire. Part of me is more interested in an actual Android tablet like the 7" IdeaPad so I can actually get all the content I want (including Kindle and Logos books)...

Jason, I wonder the same thing. If Amazon were not to allow the Logos app, I would cancel my Fire pre-order.

Personally content to wait for Kindle Fire with Logos app review(s) before pondering purchase; concur $ 199 price is attractive.

Yep, this is submitted as per email from Dan Pritchett. He said it was in there now, but I haven't checked yet.
UPDATE: He must have meant submitted as it doesn't show up in a search.

I hope it gets in there… While I will eventual get an iPad, because of the Apps I use on my phone that i want to keep and the fact most of my books require ereader. Also the slightly larger screen (yes I have no doubts amazon will be releasing their 10" version ASAP) is better for me..when i have looked at the screen size of a 7" it is just far too small for my usage. I am very happy to see the first real competitor to the iPad. I have seen looked at lots of tablets but this is the first one that I say i am impressed with. I know that the OS will get better and even better designed tablets will come out. This is only a good thing more tablets mean better designs and lower prices.
