Wow, 4.5 must really be bringing some huge changes.... Can't wait to see what the next Beta contains after this long a wait!
Back from Anaheim. They quickly saw L4 and W8 were not going to be good finger-partners.
A quote from CNN: 'To prove it, Sinofsky demonstrated Windows 8 operating on a three-year old, first-generation netbook. Using Windows Task Manager, he showed that Windows 8 actually used less memory than the netbook did while running Windows 7. He also demonstrated everyday PCs, laptops and tablets that booted in less than 10 seconds.'
Wow. That sounds just like L4, doesn't it?
From Logos 4.5 Beta warnings, anticipating major changes how Notes and Highlighting are saved. For users with large Note files, hoping for better typing performance plus several improvements in Logos User Voice suggestion => Rework notes function - in one or multiple phases since Notes handling being modified. As use Personal Book Tool more, hoping for more Personal Book improvements too.
Doing data replication well is quite challenging to code (on servers and clients) along with adequate network and server capacity so synchronization just happens. Hence, Logos 4 and mobile apps may not appear much improved, other than stuff syncing quickly: hopefully including highlighting, notes, favorites, and some preferences along with reading plans. Perhaps to be followed by Personal Book sync (which would be miles ahead).
Personally willing to wait until Logos ready for public Beta testing (with more data volume and issues using revised synchronization framework); wondering if early Logos 4.3 Beta bugginess will repeat ?
Observation: if revised synchronization framework has issue(s), data replication can be full of surprises (and data corruption and/or loss). Having a stable Logos installation for Bible Study seems prudent (in case of beta burps). Personally looking forward to beta testing (and potential surprises).
Keep Smiling [:)]

As am I. I'll check back tomorrow :-)
Beta
Betaless...
Betalessness... not a good feeling.
of course it will be a while - they have to skip v4.4 and go to v4.5 [:P]
seriouly though, I think they will have to (or be lynched) release moblile platforms as well as PC/MAC at the same time, so am not surprised about the delay, but we cant really beta test it without.. [:D]

All the more reason to draw the following conclusion. We need a mole in Bellingham. One of us has to infiltrate the fortress, get in good with the people who know, and siphon off information to the rest of us.
We need a mole in Bellingham.
AWESOMENESS! Oh how tempting it is to change my Avatar :-)
Shouldn't that be an e-reader?
Perhaps a tablet. I only wish Logos were in the e-reader business :-) Maybe they are going there and we don't know about it yet. Once again, we need that mole.
Once again, we need that mole.
Logos also went in the opposite direction with L4 (IMHO) than the rest of the computing world by requiring more keystrokes.
Beta please??
I think you guys are suffering withdrawal pains.

Considering Logos 4 has many places to Note stuff; changing how Notes are saved is quite extensive. Looking forward to public Logos 4.5 Beta 1 in 1 day (optimistic) to few weeks (pessimistic) along with ensuring stable Logos 4 installations ready to use (on Mac & PC).
I only wish Logos were in the e-reader business :-)
Does this answer your question? http://www.kirkdalepress.com/
Noticed repeat of Logos 4.5 Beta 1 in two to few weeks => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/33390/287464.aspx#287464
Thankful Logos 4.3 SR-3 is usable; content to wait for public Logos 4.5 Beta 1 release. Wonder about corresponding mobile app releases with updated sync framework ?
Looking at http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Beta_Release_Notes noted last Logos 4.3 Beta release was 2 months ago (20 July).

Ha! Great play on words for that name. Kirk = old Scottish word for church. Kirkland, WA, is also the first city where Logos set up shop. Dale is the name of Logos CEO Bob Pritchett's father, who is Senior VP of Sales & Marketing. Dale also means a valley. Icon shows a church in a valley.

As much as I appreciate & even prefer L4, I agree.
Wow, 4.5 must really be bringing some huge changes.... <snip> after this long a wait!
Hmmm..... or maybe what we already have is REALLY good.... ?
Yeah, I've noticed the long pause since the last beta, too...
Can't wait to see what the next Beta contains
Same here.

You mean Logos Bible Software isn't done? We thought we were finished, and put 100% of the team on porting Logos to Symbian and Palm OS.
If you want more, I'd better go re-task some people so we can rush something into beta and call it v4.5. If you want something soon, though, it'll have to be small features. Maybe we could tweak the icons....
porting Logos to Symbian and Palm OS.
My dying Palm TX thanks you. [;)]
I'd also like a Commodore 64 port please.

Hmmm ok... Not sure if that was sarcasm, but I guess I'll curb my enthusiasm about the 4.5 beta that was posted about. Just thought it will be something big since the break has been a while longer than normal... Oh well

Clearly sarcasm. We've bee told elsewhere that 4.5 is going to be a major update including a complete rework of the sync system (To avoid things like this: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/38391.aspx) and hopefully to make syncing with iOS and Android possible so we can have notes and highlights there.

Thanks. I don't care what I get. As a matter of fact, you can just push through something that changes the build number on my about page.
Just another thankfully-not-addicted-soul,
HH
That just might be a GOOD idea IF Logos lets you know what will be changed in 4.5 and then released Beta 4.5.00000001 that is just a build number change. Here is how. In Beta testing the testers MUST try ‘EVERYTHING’ to ensure that none of the OLD STUFF got damaged. But if the Beta testers knew that XXX is going to change [for a FACT and not just Rumors] then they could start thinking how they could verify that change. The sooner they know what is going to change the sooner they can start thinking. If [for example] it is NOTES SYNC. What if you have two computers running at the same time with different notes being added to the same verse at the same time? – What if three computers? [This is not something that is supposed to happen but do you ALWAYS turn off the Church computer before going home to lunch in the parsonage across the street and you have a new thought and input it on the parsonage computer forgetting that you did not shutdown the Church one?] What happened? Was the note from Computer A kept or the note from B? or Both [or did the note end up looking like ABABABABABABABA [where A is text from A and B is text from B] And with only one Computer on at a time [like we are supposed to do] Add a Note on A edit it on B edit it on C - How long did it take to get to B so you could edit it [and how long to get to C so you could edit it again or the B edits on A if you only have two computers] Add in tests for D and E if you have five – Have fun PLANNING. [[Thank you to all of the Beta testers – you keep all the rest of us out of trouble - and thanks for the PB docx files you posted during and after the 4.3 beta testing]]
What if you have two computers running at the same time with different notes being added to the same verse at the same time? – What if three computers?
Aren't these licensed to one person? Even if you allow for your wife and children using it (which is apparently kosher), I doubt that there would be overlap in adding to the same verse at the same time.

I am certain that even with only black-box path testing I could never try "everything". Regression testing should be automated and even then it is rarely comprehensive. I like your idea of being able to give some advanced thought to our testing.
I like this idea...if Logos would release a Halo Hound build that does nothing but increment his build number twice a week, we might see far fewer "When's the next beta coming?" posts on the beta forum. Of course what we would get instead are posts where Halo Hound asks "How come my copy of Logos 6.7b14 is missing several of the features you guys are messing with in 4.5b2?" [:p]
hehe...a Halo Hound channel...I like the sounds of that :-) stable, beta, and HH channels. Its motto could be "builds for the pointless and pathetic."
LOL
Update:Define ‘EVERYTHING’ as Everything that YOU normally do – Does this still work for YOU”? [not everything that could be done]George Somsel “”Aren't these licensed to one person? Even if you allow for your wife and children using it (which is apparently kosher), I doubt that there would be overlap in adding to the same verse at the same time.””Yes, one person but you could have two computers on at the same time! Re: “I doubt” Don’t doubt TEST and prove!Explain two computers at the same time: It is NOT SUPPOSED to be done. BUT there were some posts on problems that MIGHT have been caused by having two computers active at the same time. I had set up an example of a pastor that left the church computer on while he went to lunch in the parsonage and started his parsonage computer thinking that he has signed off. What happens??? MJ. Smith “”Regression testing should be automated and even then it is rarely comprehensive.”” It has been 20 years since I did in house regression testing (automated) Our Beta testers’ reports helped us add tests. How ‘we’ thought that it would be used and how it was used was two different worlds.

Wonder about custom Logos 4 about icon ?
Okay, I'll bite:
I know that many are being blessed with the work being done for the smart phones, etc. I'm just not in that market. I have always believed that your primary emphasis is on the main program. I hope that you don't leave it like it is. I don't believe you are done.
But if you do, it is the greatest blessing for personal study outside of the Holy Spirit in my life. Thanks Bob for being true to the calling of God in this. Blessings.
You know I also look forward to a new Beta becasue it shows the program is growing and getting more user friendly, as well more of the tools we have done without for so long are coming back with new tools to use as well! However an awful thought crossed my little mind as I was reading Bobs reply and it and it was what would we do if someday Logos is completely finished and there aren't any more beta downloads left? [:O]
Of course that won't happen! [:)]
My inside sources (well inside my head sources) say that Logos 4.5 will contain:
I can't wait to see 4.6
Wow M.J. based on my knowledge of private beta testing of 4.5 you just about hit the nail on the head. [;)] The only thing not included is the Handout improvements. They figured Thomas would be so busy converting L3 PB's to .docx, he would not mind waiting a little longer.[:O]
this feature is still buggy as the knowledge is very temporary
Must use Slasher nano tech. If only the Threshers would let the nanites stay, the knowledge would, too. But then they never would have made it past the censor. Ahh, the price of accessing E2.
Sorry, Alastair Reynolds moment there.

I think you mean 5.6. All of what you listed is going to be in 5.5 next year sometime... [;)]

I think the last four bullets will next year be put on the list of things coming soon ...
...but then again M.J. forgot to mention the BibleMemory Add-on which will transfer the full text of any bible*) into the users memory, as long as there are regular metadata updates through the cloud

Another week passed without any news...
Perhaps you need addiction counselling. [:P]
The Black Friday sale is coming right up and then the twelve days of Christmas sale, Logos will be so busy it may be next year!
Perhaps you need addiction counselling.
I can stop whenever I want to George. I have just quit the beta program. See how easy that was. Hmmm. When are they going to release the next beta? Can't wait.

You sound like the alchoholic who said he could quit drinking any time he wished, but I think that was your intent. [:)]
There is a Polish saying: "The longer waiting the better breakfast you will get."
May be Logos knows that one...[:)]
