Alphabetizing the Commentary List
I couldn't find an answer in the forums for this. Is there a way to alphabetize the commentary list in Logos 4? Thank you for any help.

Hi Richard - and welcome to the forums.
Do you mean within the results of a Passage Guide or something else?
Passage Guides return results in prioritisation order - not alphabetical.

Hi Graham,
Thank you for responding to my question. It's in the Passage Guide. I wanted to alphabetize the commentaries, to make it a little easier to search through them.

I'd like to learn more about categorizing the Commentaries.

Mark Barnes has also given us a good list of recommended commentary tags here: http://www.logos4training.com/documents/suggested-commentary-tags/ If you watch video #15 (The Library) about half way through you will see some very good reasons to tag your commentaries as well.

Hi Richard,
Even though you can't alphabetize them, you can influence the order they're presented to you by prioritizing them in the order you'd like to see them served up.
Right click on a resource in the library to prioritize it (or the series it's in).
View & organize your prioritized list in the same library window by moving over to the right & selecting the "Prioritize" view.
Blessings, & welcome to the forums!
Grace & Peace,
Bill

I too would like an option to list commentaries (along with books, notes, etc...) alphabetically.

Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Prioritizing
Option: remove all commentaries from your Library priority list, use type:commentary to filter Library, sort by title, click to highlight first commentary (in a blank area on line), scroll down, shift click last commentary (to select all commentaries), right click, prioritize this resource (to add all commentaries in alphabetical order)

That accomplishes what was asked... but it is Ugly!

Concur with Ugly (especially if want to later delete prioritization: one at a time). Personally prefer to prioritize series, then individual commentaries, adjusting priorities after reading various commentaries to reflect usefulness. For example, United Bible Societies (UBS) Handbooks are my Top prioritized commentary series, wish Logos would add several Old Testament volumes => Suggestion: Update UBS Old Testament Handbook Series to include new volumes Blog has => http://blog.logos.com/2011/08/logos-4-quickly-access-the-ubs-handbooks/

Sure.
1) In your library type the name of a commentary you want to categorize (e.g. Word Biblical Commentary)
2)Highlight all of those commentaries (Hold down the shift arrow and press the down arrow. Once you are done if something is displayed that is not that commentary, hold down the CTRL key and click on that resource. It will be unselected)
3) if not already displayed, Hit the "i" on the toolbar. This will show a column to the right that will let you tag all those resources.
4) give the commentaries a tag according to the type of commentary that it is (e.g. AC for Academic Commentaries, PC for Pastoral Commentary, etc.)
5)Once you've done this with the commentaries you want categorized go to tools>Collections.
6)give the collection a rule of mytag:AC
7)name it "Academic commentaries.
8)go to Guides>Make a Guide Template (or you can edit a template you have already started. Open the guide>go to the resource panel>select "edit guide template")
9)Add a commentary section to the guide. Click on "All Commentaries" and it will show you a list of your collections. Select your "Academic Commentaries" Collection." add a commentary section for each type of commentary you categorized.
Let me know if you need more detail, e.g. pictures, for any of the above steps.

Works great! Thanks so much! Can't wait to try the same concept with other resources.
