So if you have the Catholic Builder (and existing base packages) the only item you need to add is the Catechism. At least financially it's good news!

I also think it's worth noting that there's an RI included that is not a "standard base resource": the NRSV Apocrypha reverse interlinear. And I'm wondering about what they call Lake's Apostolic Fathers English reverse interlinear. If they really mean exactly that, isn't that one already a part of the Apostolic Fathers bundle on the next line? Or did they instead mean to list the Greek-English interlinear that's about to ship in 1 1/2 week? That's what I first thought.

Can someone help me identify the 3 Greek-Hebrew LXX RI's that I'm supposed to already have? I'm having a problem finding them. The New Testament Apocrypha seems to have another name in my library as well. I do wish they would work on their lists so that the names in them correspond to the names in our libraries!

Plus this exercise has also made me realize I'm missing at least one more book I should have had for a year now. So much for being able to trust we always get what we pay for... I guess it's time for a visit to the ftp site.

So if you have the Catholic Builder (and existing base packages) the only item you need to add is the Catechism.

The Catechism, the Compendium, the Liturgies Eastern and Western Collection, the NRSV Apocrypha RI, and, quite possibly, some Apostolic Fathers resources (depending on what base package you have and when you bought it). I'm hoping my upgrade price will be lower than the cost of those prepubs I'm already signed up for. From experience I think it will be.

(I do hope, btw, that no one here bought the Catholic Library Builder directly from the website. The sales reps give pretty heavy discounts for what we already own.)

I am happy for your audience finally getting the Library Builder & Scholar package as well as the individual titles. I took a look at the Community Pricing & Pre-Pub programs to discover what new audiences Logos is NOT reaching out to, yet. There are too many to list just now so I will just mention the Restoration Movement (Stone/Campbell) and the Anabaptist (Mennonite in particular) that Fred Morgan keeps asking for.

Let us hope Logos keeps reaching out to new audiences and does not settle for "only" Evangelical/Protestant and Catholic/Eastern Orthodox.

btw: Thank you MJ. I was having great trouble creating my comparison lists due to the variance in titling. I was not sure if these resources were actually the same or different. Now I have to explore upgrade pricing.

Most of the Catholic materials offered lean towards theological, devotional or historical. I have this odd desire for Catholic Bible study software to have some Bible focus. This package provides excellent Scripture study that will benefit most from Logos tagging. There are two other series of Scripture study that I also want in Logos - the Interface series (Barbara Green editor) and the Zaccheus New Testament series.

* The Didache (O'Loughlin)

This is a modern translation with commentary that would work well as a parish study group / book reading club. Other than the Popular Patristics series, it is hard to find volumes that do as good a job of making early Christian literature accessible. I would also include for similar reasons First Fruits of Prayer: A Forty-Day Journey Through the Canon of St. Andrew
by Frederica Mathewes-Green and The Prayer of St. Ephrem: A Biblical Commentary
by William C. Mills

* Flights of the Soul (Pilch)

Pilch is simply one of the best when it comes to putting Scripture into cultural perspective. I'd love to have his 10 book series that provides the background for the lectionary readings. Seems I was wrong. I did have the resource. It's just another one that has a different name in the Library than on the lists. (And in my defense I have had several instances earlier when I have been missing files I should have had, so if I judged to fast there's a reason for it.)

Thanks for the reviews. I have the first two on order, but not really knowing anything about them it wouldn't have occurred to me to rate them above e g Ratzinger, so I was curious why you did. And the third I haven't even looked at seriously. Didn't know it was Catholic either.

I also didn't know Paideia was worth looking at. But then I have so many NT commentaries. I need OT. I need Isaiah above all. Wish JPS had an Isaiah commentary. That would be worth having.

You are probably right on both counts. The Jewish resources have been slow but steady. But since I already have many of them my selfish desire is for totally new material not yet in the pipeline. (You gotta know, that Perseus stuff I have indexing is not going to keep me occupied for very long. [;)] )

Yeah, but you have Portfolio, I believe. No Jew is likely to buy that, since there's practically nothing of interest to them between OLL and Portfolio, and yet all the Jewish stuff is up there. Which means they have to buy things expensively piece by piece. That doesn't strike me as particularly smart from a business perspective, and it doesn't strike me as particularly fair from a human perspective. A Jewish base package would give Jews a chance to acquire a good set of Jewish, Hebrew, Aramaic and LXX resources for a good price, just like Evangelicals have been able to do for a long time, and Catholics are now beginning to be able to do. Plus it would give Christians an opportunity to get a good price on those same resources, without having to go all the way up to Portfolio, which most never will.

Plus it will create a bigger customer base for more Jewish resources, which I believe both you and I want, right?

I bought the CLB collection and had no trouble downloading. Then I had both versions of the Fathers in my library and went through and "hid" the one I didn't want.

The lists are being updated right now. Also, I'm afraid that the CCC's and the Compendium's inclusion were a bit premature. We are hoping that they will end up being included, but at present nothing is finalized. As for the author's names being absent, we are fixing that problem. Before these packages ship we will have a full comparison chart that will make all this much easier.

What about the Apostolic Fathers interlinear? Is it meant to be the one which I already have, and which I believe is part of the AF bundle on the line below, or is it meant to be Rick's new one?

This is very disappointing. When the Giveaway was first announced, the CCC was mentioned. Then a day or two later it was gone. Then these prepubs turn up on the Prepub page -- but not in the Pre-Pubs RSS feed! -- and the Catechism is on again. And now you're telling us you still don't know? I am so tired of not being able to trust anything Logos tells me. Please, don't you start as well.

Before these packages ship we will have a full comparison chart that will make all this much easier.

I'm glad you will, but it's when we're thinking of ordering that we need a comparison chart, not much later. These things should be in place before you put things up for sale, but somehow it always ends up being us on the forums that have to do the job Logos should already have done.

One thing I think Logos as a whole needs to work on is using consistent titles, author's names, set names and metadata. These items are always directly visible to the user and are the cause of much confusion. In my experience, this is the type of error that is seen by users as building or breaking down the trust between the user and the provider - visible sloppiness is a negative.

And no Andrew, this is not directed at you but at Logos as whole - see my suggestions re: links and re: collections.

We're working daily on cleaning up problems and inconsistencies in the library metadata and are currently working on eliminating a major redundancy in our databases that's leading to some of the inconsistency between the library metadata and the information on the website.

I may be wrong, but I am usually right. I am confident the only difference between the Protestant version of the Early Church Fathers and the Catholic version of the Early Church Fathers is the inclusion of Philip Schaff's footnotes/notes with the Protestant version. So, if you already have the Protestant version, you will gain the ability to refer to the ECF without notes by referring to the Catholic version. That is the benefit of having both sets. The original content does not differ.

I took a different option. I got myself a 20" iMac. I need to install a bigger hard drive in it before I begin installing my Logos library to it.

Back to the original thread topic: If I already have Early Church Fathers "Protestant edition" and the actual content is the same as the "Catholic edition" (excepting the notes), do I have to duplicate the whole content just to refer to it under each title? It would be nice to just toggle the notes on &n off when a user has license to both resources.

I don't think you need to keep both ... if you do, I've blown it on the Early Church Fathers index.

Web site has guides for replacing hard drives, including Intel iMac => http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/iMac_Intel

Option: can use external hard drive to boot and run Logos 4 Mac. Also could partition external drive for Time Machine use with other partitions to store stuff (including copy of internal partition that is bootable).
