Simple Word or Phrase Search?
After looking for any capability (installed software) or plan (FAQs) to do simple concordance-type searches (find all instances in a verse range of a word or phrase), I'm left with the sinking feeling that I'm going to have to install other Bible software in order to have that capability.
Unfortunately, that's one of the things I expect for the way I use smartphone Bible software.
Here's what I need (& previously used with non-Logos software) to answer ad hoc questions that seem to come up when there's either no time to fire up L4 or no access to my laptop at all:
- Access to an English Bible verion's underlying Greek or Hebrew, morph info, & the appropriate info from a lexicon. (Other software handled this with Strongs # lookup from an enhanced KJV---close enough to answer an ad hoc question even if it isn't my preferred translation.) Android's bible word study may get me close to this capability, if it gives me access to lexical info. Until now, have been trying to get my installation stable... will check this out. If not, I'll have to find an alternative...perhaps an exhaustive concordance? (Lockwood had one in one of their collections, that I have in L4... will check to see if it's in Android)...
- Simple search for word/words or exact phrase --- absolotely necessary to help me find "Where in the Bible does it say....?" don't know how to do this in current beta, & FAQs don't seem to say it's there or planned.
- English dictionary. Would love to have an L4 type keylink to get to it, but I can live with the slider & paging for Mirriam-Webster's Collegiate dictionary already downloaded.
- At least one single-volume commentary or study Bible type resource. Haven't had time yet to figure out what in my L4 library that's available to Android might fill this bill. Maybe it's there.
- Several Bible Dictionaries - availability of ISBE is a huge plus & more than meets this need.
Many thanks for what you've already done... looking awesome...

Bill

I agree with BillS. I really miss this basic feature in Logos for Android. I think this is a more relevant and useful function to have in an Android Phone Bible than advanced stuff as "Word Study", "Comparison" and "Passage Guide". If the team of programmers will not implant a word search function in coming versions, the app will be rather useless for me.
I just finished doing a bit of searching on LOGOS the program and Biblia. The type of search that would be most useful to me is implemented on other sites/media. For something as simple as the Android and where less typing is better maybe something like:
A) a way to specify the target of the search. (favorite Bible first priority on or offline - possible additions: collections, entire library) This could be a list box or whatever.
A text box or equivalent allowing a search of:
1. single words
2. multiple words (assume AND relationship - OR allow a way of specifying that relationship. ex. AND, OR, &,|, etc.)
3. allow use of quotes for phrases.
4. really cool would be allow speech input - that would be a "nice to have". [:D]
I understand that this requires a parser and tokenizing, but it would really make the Android app SOOOOO much more useful.
Hi William, I like your suggestions!
A) a way to specify the target of the search. (favorite Bible first priority on or offline - possible additions: collections, entire library) This could be a list box or whatever.
I'd even be happy with assuming the current resource as search target & that search is triggered within it (Perhaps by a long pause when NOT on a word--which would otherwise continue to trigger BWS as now)
Blessings!

I have downloaded a reverse interlinear (ESV) plus my preferred lexicon to get that access, albeit BWS will not work in flight mode. But accessing the downloaded lexicon is much quicker than fetching the information from a server.
I would like that.
I would like direct entry to work in flight mode ("reference not recognised").
Just search in your Android Library!

NASB95 is an RI, & this seems to work ok... are you saying BWS won't work AT ALL if I turn off 3G & wifi--even though I've downloaded everything I want it to link to? (I haven't tried that, yet.) Morph data is better than my old app. With BWS does help me answer the frequent question I get in a discussion about Bible--"Was that 'you' singular or plural?" When BWS will work in "flight" mode (if I'm understanding you), I'll be a happy camper.
Still, I may end up downloading an original text, based on an issue in Mt 21:31, where every English translation of proago adds text for which there is no Greek (before; in front of; ahead of; etc.). RI / BWS aren't much help in sorting that kind of problem out on the android app, where it was obvious when strong's numbers were embedded in the text next to each word (in my last handheld app).
To me, this feels like a glaring omission, especially since the NAS Exhaustive Concordance is so hard to use to offset its lack. At minimum, we should be able to serach a bible verse range that included either a word, or any / all words in a phrase. It'd be nice to have the same capability in a "basic" search of a book, too, but we really do need Bible search. That's the most common question I get when I don't have my laptop... "Do you know where in the Bible it says, '....?' "
Same here. It'd be even nicer to be able to pick between 2 entries when we press & hold on an english word: BWS or Dictionary Lookup.
Will do...
Thanks for the response, Dave!

My question is how did you download your reverse interlinear and where did you download it from?, it would really be a tremendous help to me if you could inform me to where and how to do it on a samsung tablet, thanks in advance for your reply.
Hi Xavian
The reverse interlinear information is contained within the same file as the Bible - for those which support revint capability.
So to download the ESV - for example - including revint info - go to the Library, find the ESV, click on the small arrow to the right and press the "Download" button.
Hope this helps
Graham
How does one know if they have revint capability?
