I value the input from the Logos Forum......I am trying to decide which of these two (2) commentaries I should buy:
Preaching the Word Collection or the Tyndale Commentaries.
Thanks for your input.
Can you give us a description of how you intend to use them?

I am trying to decide which of these two (2) commentaries I should buy:
First, I don't consider the Preaching the Word set as commentaries. They are expository sermons. They are valuable in their own right but not as commentaries.
Second, The Tyndale set covers the whole Bible, Preaching the Word does not.
Third, if you need specific ideas for a sermon series on a book, Preaching the Word is a better choice than Tyndale. If you need help understanding the text no matter what book or verse you are studying, Tyndale is for you.
Thanks to Dave and Mark for the quick replies. My intent is for study and sermon prep. As I am not a full time pastor, at this point, I believe the Tyndale set will be better for me. Thanks again for the input. I am open to any other comments as well.
I think you will be very pleased with the Tyndale set. As I was researching the various sets, I ran across a website, www.bestcommentaries.com. I was surprised to find the the Tyndale OT volumes are rated in the the top 3 for the following volumes: Numbers, Joshua (both #1), 1/2 Kings, 1/2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Daniel, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Habakkuk, Zechariah and Malachi. This is up against the major commentary sets. Another benefit of the Tyndale Commentary set as already stated above is that it covers every book of the bible, so there will not be any updating necessary later to complete the set. Ligonier Ministries' review of this series stated:"The Tyndale Old and New Testament Commentary series is probably the most consistent commentary series available today. Most other series have some really good commentaries, some mediocre commentaries, and at least a handful of commentaries that are not very helpful at all. The volumes in the Tyndale series, on the other hand, are consistently good. The Tyndale commentary on Joshua is particularly good. Like Davis' commentary, this one is also written at an intermediate level and is accessible to all readers."
You will enjoy this purchase.
Thanks John, great information and very helpful. So much so that I just placed my order. Bless you my Brother in Christ as well as Dave and Mark and everyone whom I learn from on the forum.[Y][:)]
