OT: RIP Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

From the Apple website: "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Even though I've never been a Mac person, I am saddened by his death and realize what a tremendous gift he was to the world. May God have mercy on his soul, and I pray for his family and the whole Apple community who are grieving his loss.

I suspected this was imminent when he left his position, but I really didn't think that the time was so short. I've been a Mac user for a long time and even PC users have benefited from the innovations from Apple.

Amazing are many Apple innovations (several insanely great). Will miss "one more thing" during keynotes.

Likewise wonder if Vyrso will offer Steve Job's authorized biography next month ?

I am saddened by his death. He was a true innovator. I believe he was confirmed a Lutheran, but, from all accounts I have recently seen, he was a practicing Buddhist. I hope that Steve accepted Christ prior to his death. It grieves me to think otherwise... [U]

Reflecting back I just realized that my first encounter with an Apple product was programming in APL on an Apple II in math camp in the summer of 1980. If I had not learned APL that summer, I likely would not have gotten my summer job at IBM, which probably helped me get hired by Microsoft the following year. And Microsoft was surely a better company because of the constant challenge that Steve Jobs and Apple gave us to be better than the competition. So Steve Jobs shaped the direction my life took in so many ways. I don't think I've ever experienced the death of someone who has influenced my life path that much before. I'm feeling profound gratitude right now.
