Read the Bible in a Year...Won't Advance
Hi, I've been reading the Bible thru the one year plan on my iPad. I finished Genesis 40 - 41 and the plan won't advance anymore.
How do I get it to continue?
Thanks
Steve

First, welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having troubles.
My first question to ask is if you have been using the iPad exclusively for your reading plan. In other words, have you been using only your iPad, or your computer (or another device) too? Unfortunately there are some known issues with syncing for mobile devices, which is what I think you are experiencing. When you say that the plan "won't advance," do you mean you can't "check it off" or that it won't show you what you are supposed to read?

Hi alabama24, thanks for trying to help me!
When I go to the "reading plan" it stops at Genesis 40-41. This is the last daily reading section I read. There are no more "days" to touch to open. Prior to this I had a long list of my future daily reading schedule.
Two Sundays ago, our church was having an outreach event and during some downtime I opened Logos on my iPhone to follow the Pastor's teaching, but didn't open the "Read the Bible in a Year" plan. It has worked fine since, until last night when I tried to read the "One Year" plan.

Steve-
When it is working properly, the current date should always be at the top and you should be able to see many days (10? 14?) into the future. It sounds to me like this is the same sync problem, just from a different perspective. I like to highlight & take notes when I read. Since that is not currently available, I don't use my iPad for daily readings. I do, however, check to see what is going on with my reading plans because other people (such as yourself) ask about it. I have seen the plan on my iPad get a week or more out of date, even though I read daily and update it on my computer.
I do have one last (longshot) thought: You are not in airplane mode, are you?

That's interesting, my reading plan had the day I started reading at the top, and I had to scroll down to get to the current day.
No I'm not in Airplane mode.
I tried powering the iPad off/on, but it didn't make any difference.
Is there a way to manually "kick start" the reading plan?

That confirms to me that this is the same syncing issue.

You can try a "hard" shut down of the app, but I don't think that will fix this. If you experience is like mine, it will suddenly sync again out of the blue and stop just as quickly.
I do want to let you know that Logos is working on a more "robust" sync platform which will be debuted in 4.5. The Beta is supposed to begin in the near future. Once the sync platform is updated, it will bring notes, highlighting, and (hopefully [:)]) reading plans that work!

I did try to reset the app, that didn't help either.
I did find a workaround though. On the Logos homepage on my computer, there is the ability to download the daily reading plan to my calendar. While it doesn't link to the text, it will allow me to continue on schedule with the one year reading plan. I'll also have it on my iPhone and iPad, so it will be more readily accessible throughout the day.
Thanks for your help and thanks for the good news about the possible update to the software!!

Hi LOGOS!
Is there a command that we can plug into the iPhone LOGOS app that will enable us to force the iPhone app to sync with the LOGOS server? For some reason - when the LOGOS iPhone app apears to be syncing with the LOGOS server it does not update the reading plan to the most-up-to-date schedule. If there isn't a command, LOGOS should program a command in the next iPhone app release so we can plug in the command and force the iPhone app to sync with the LOGOS server. If we can enter a command to force a sync between the iPhone app and the LOGOS server it might solve the reading plan dilemma we all have.
Blessings,

Sorry if I annoyed you. I just thought since the thread is about the "same" issue I could give the "same" recommendation to each thread.

Here is the what I suspected regarding this issue and I later discovered I was correct. I made saved "favorites" to my iPhone LOGOS app and when I checked my iPod Touch LOGOS app it had the "favorites" I had saved on my iPhone LOGOS app. I also created a new reading plan on my iPhone app and I found whatever days I marked as read had then updated on my iPod Touch! Problem is officially understood.
The LOGOS server for the iPhone app is not being updated by the LOGOS server for the PCs. The issue is not with the iPhone app. The LOGOS technical guys responsible for the LOGOS servers have to make sure that the two servers (app server and PC server) are able to communicate with each other so the reading plan can update in real-time. This is why the iPhone LOGOS app is not getting the updates made by the LOGOS software installed on our PCs. There is a break in real-time communication between the app server and PC server.
If you have an iPod Touch and a iPhone you WILL be able to confirm this too. If you make any changes on your iPhone LOGOS app (i.e. create favorites and/or mark certain days in reading plan as read on your iPhone), it will immediately show up on your iPod Touch LOGOS app.

I'm new to Logos, and am having the same problem with the REading Plan. However, I don't understand the answers to the previous posts. My plan gave me only one month of readings. I've completed them and it isn't moving forward. Can you tell me specifically what to do, understanding I'm not a techy? Many thanks!

Cindy - First, welcome to the forums! I am sorry to inform you that there is a sync problem that you cannot fix. Logos is currently working on an update to both the desktop and mobile apps. The next release of Logos 4 (4.5) is in beta now. This will bring a more "robust" infrastructure which will eventually fix this issue, as well as bring highlighting and notes. For an "official" statement from Logos, please read THIS POST.
As I stated, there is nothing that you can do. However, the app is likely to update itself randomly at some point in the future. It may be several weeks between updates, but will probably download 2 weeks worth of readings when it does.

Thanks for your clear answer--much appreciated. I will continue to read and use the forum--obviously a source of good help.

Why doesn't logos fix this with an update for the iphone/ipad app? This seems like such a small fix to a rather annoying problem.

Nathaniel - Please read THIS THREAD as I suggested the other forum user do. Part of Dave's answer states:
The sync problems are caused by the way data is synced between iOS and the desktop apps; it doesn't scale to the amount of data we are now processing.
Logos is working on it. A big part of the solution will be the new sync infrastructure as part of 4.5 (currently in beta).
